Rimmel ScandalEyes Thick & Thin Eyeliner Review

Today's been a busy day!  I wrote out my next 2 Project Finish Updates, did some serious weeding in the flower bed, cleaned up the kitchen some, and I still have to do something with the piles of clothes laying around (all the Mister's...shhh, don't tell).  Anyway, lately I've been on the hunt for a truly waterproof black eyeliner since my current favorite gel liner (Essence) completely failed me when we were in Chicago.  I'm talking gel liner migrating into and completely across the crease.  No, it wasn't hot - my eye was watering, probably due to the wind, and I looked a hot mess at only half way through the day.  So the hunt is on!

I don't know why it took me so long to write this review when I pretty much made up my mind on the first use in an eye look.  I spied this Rimmel London ScandalEyes Thick & Thin Eyeliner that claims to be waterproof and lasts 24 hours.  I picked it up at Giant Eagle (grocery store) - I won't be doing that again since --spoiler alert -- I kinda wish I could take this back...  At least this was only around $6, and I will continue to use it until it runs out...just only when the conditions are right for it to perform.
Packaging claims:
  • 2-in-1 felt tip liner for a customized look, intense colour
  • Uniquely slanted 2-in-1 felt tip for thick or thin line, depending how you hold it
  • Long lasting ultra-black colour stays put for up to 24 hours
  • Waterproof, Smudge-proof, Tear-proof, Sweat-proof, Heat-proof, Humidity-proof and Scandal-proof
  • Dermatologist & ophthalmologist tested

The 2 sided felt-tip:
Originally when I swatched this, I thought it looked pretty black, but looking at my picture...not so much.  It looks weak, almost gray.
A few minutes after I swatched this on my hand, I rubbed my hand across part of the lines.  They moved and smeared.  Well, I thought, maybe after a longer wait time I'll check it again.  Probably 10 minutes later, I got my finger slightly damp and went at my swatches again - gone.  Totally not waterproof.  Also, wearing the liner now that it's been fairly consistently hot, I have noticed fading.
I do like how easy it is to get a nice smooth line in my preferred shape - thin in the inner corner, thicker across the middle into a cat eye/wing shape.  Also, I did not run into the same issues as the CoverGirl Intensify Me Liquid Liner when used over shadows.  If only the wear time was better and it was more black and actually waterproof.

So to sum up my thoughts on the Rimmel Thick & Thin Eyeliner:  easy to apply but the wear time is mediocre and the water/smudge/tear/sweat/heat/humidity proof claim is totally bogus.

So, my search continues.  I swatched the Stila Stay All Day liquid liner on my hand at Ulta - it washed off my hand a couple hours later using just regular hand soap.  Nope.  I did find a Urban Decay Perversion liquid liner in my stash that I'm currently testing.  I have about a month and a half to find my "perfect" liner, and I would prefer either liquid or gel.

What's your favorite, truly waterproof, black eyeliner?
