I'm finishing up the year of 2014 empties, finally!! Can't believe it took me until the end of July to get around to it. At least my bathroom is looking cleaner with each bag of empties I get shared here on the blog. December was a pretty busy month for me with finishing up full size products, samples and more purging of no-good-to-me products. Just like the December 2013 installment, I'll be looking through all my Updates of 2014 to tally what all has left my stash whether through finishing or trashing.
continue to repurchase.
Dial White Tea & Vitamin E Antibacterial Hand Soap - purchased...again and again and again, etc.... Will continue to repurchase.
Bath & Body Works Breathe Energy Skin Conditioning In-Shower Moisturizer. After I finished the Comfort bottle in the prior month, I pulled out the Energy bottle which was equally as old and discontinued, bought on clearance ages ago. Again, it worked perfectly for shaving my legs with no irritation. In-shower moisturizers and/or hair conditioner is definitely the way to go for me for super smooth, nick-free shaving.
Benefit Moisture Prep Toning Lotion - purchased from Ulta. I use this in the colder months for an added layer of moisture since when my skin changes to the drier side, it really changes. When I use this, I see a noticeable difference in how my skin feels and looks more plump. I would "chase" this with whatever serum I was using at the time, then follow that up with argan oil and seal it all in with a moisturizer (obviously that was all at night). I'd also use this in the morning before serum and SPF moisturizer. Have repurchased - the equivalent of one bottle lasts me for my entire "dry-skin season."
Kate Somerville Oil-Free Moisturizer - came in acne trial kit purchased from Sephora. I was using this moisturizer in the Fall/early Winter and just didn't think it moisturized enough. I only used it at night time since I use SPF during the day. Plus, it's in a tub that you have to stick your fingers in - not very hygienic for something that came in an acne kit. Won't repurchase.
Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado - sample from Nordstrom's. This is nice and moisturizing, but I think it's too thick for my personal preference. A little does go a long way, but it also takes a while to work in since it is so thick. Won't purchase.
Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion - purchased from Ulta. I love this product - I'd actually consider it a "Holy Grail" item as I've gone through multiple bottles. I'm nearly out of my current replacement bottle and will be repurchasing shortly.
Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Exfoliating Cleanser (combo skin) - gift with purchase from Dillards. This is geared for combination skin, but I felt like it left my skin too dry/stripped feeling. This might be better for someone with straight-up oily skin, but my skin was uncomfortable with this. That's why it took so long to finish - I'd use it one or 2 nights in a row then leave it for a week or more, on an on like that. I also didn't notice any of the "exfoliating" factor it claims to have. Won't purchase.
Clinique High Impact Waterproof Mascara (deluxe sample g.w.p.) in Black. This was actually a pretty good waterproof mascara. I don't remember it leaving my lashes too stiff/crunchy and I didn't have any flakes/smudging that I can think of, even when it'd been open a while. If I remember correctly, it also removed pretty easily - well, as easily as a waterproof mascara can. I'd consider repurchasing at some point (maybe to get my total high enough to qualify for a g.w.p. at some point).
Urban Decay SuperCurl Curling Mascara - deluxe sample that came in a palette. It has a curved rubber wand which was a pretty good shape for my eyes. It says it's "supercurl" but my lashes already have a decent natural curl to them which I think it did enhance. I remember liking it well enough, but I'm not sure that I'd purchase - especially since I still have so many untried mascaras in my stash that might end up really triggering a love.
DermaDoctor DD Cream sample - got it made for me at Sephora. This was all right, but not as outstanding as I thought it was going to be based on watching a few YouTubers reviewing it. Wouldn't purchase.
MAC Mineralize Charged Water Moisture Eye Cream - got it made for me at the MAC counter in Macy's. I'm always looking for an eye cream that can help with putting moisture in my under eye area, while also helping to alleviate the natural dark circles I have, all while not causing milia. I didn't have any irritation, but I also didn't notice anything that great either. Won't purchase.
Korres Greek Yoghurt Face Cream - got it made for me at Sephora. This was a nice nighttime moisturizer for my skin at night. I didn't notice any irritation/breakouts from it. I believe I have a deluxe sample still in my stash waiting on me. Haven't decided one way or the other as for purchasing.
Urban Decay Complexion Primer Potions (sample cards) - I used both the Brightening side and the Pore Perfecting side. I have purchased the "brightening and tightening" formula in a full size, which I believe is just listed as brightening on the card.
Won't repurchase (if the formula is even available anymore).
Maybelline Dream Bouncy Bronzer in 80 Glistening Sun - purchased from Rite Aid. This particular shade was, I believe, part of a limited edition collection. When I spotted it on clearance, I figured I'd give it a chance. Well, turns out I don't care for the way that cream-type products sit on my skin over my foundation. Maybe I just don't have the hang of using this type of product but since I have so many powdered bronzers (both matte and shimmery) that I really like, why bother trying to work with it. Won't repurchase any of the Dream Bouncy line.
Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in 10 Pink Frosting - purchased from Giant Eagle. I feel the same way about this blush as I do about the bronzer. Also, the one time I did actually leave the house with this on, it had completely disappeared by the time I returned a few hours later. Again, I have loads of powder blushes that I really like and enjoy using, so why bother with something I'm not fond of? Won't repurchase any of the Dream Bouncy line.
Physicians' Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Blush in Warming Organics - purchased from Dollar Tree. No color payoff at all. I can see why this formula was discontinued. I think that I still have one of the blushes from this line in my stash that actually has some payoff.
Lancome Teinte Idole Ultra 24 H Foundation - samples from Dillards (I don't remember the shades). There's something about this foundation that my skin does not like. I had whiteheads come up within hours of putting this on. It did have a nice finish but if my skin can't tolerate it, then no. Won't purchase.
Now it's time for the calculations to begin! I always like to know how many full size products I've used up as well as how many samples were finished. It's also interesting to see how many products went in the "Trashed, but Not Finished" category.
Tools: 1 (Clarisonic head - if I was more consistent with use, there would have been more)
Full Size: 78
Sample size (deluxe, foil, custom made): 44
"Trashed, but Not Finished": 29
For a total of 152 items leaving the house one way or the other! That's actually really good! Plus this isn't even counting the makeup/skin care/hair care that I purged into a box for family to go through. And I can tell you right now, that I'm well on my way for a high number for 2015 - which, if all goes as planned, 2015 Updates will be starting next week.
Do you like to keep track of the number of items you finish? Do you immediately repurchase the same item or do you try out something new?
