Sunday Stash Sharing - Patriotic Inspired Glitter Swatch Wheels!

Hi!
**purchased

Given that today is Sunday I wanted to do a Sunday Stash Sharing, but as I was thinking about what to share, I decided that since the 4th of July holiday is coming up (at least for the U.S.), I'd pull all of my patriotic inspired polishes from all brands and swatch them on a wheel...make that 2 wheels.  The first wheel has lots of stars and some other polishes that either came with the collection or are the appropriate-colored glitters.  I ended up doing a second wheel, as well, that has the rest of my star glitters as well as blue/white and red/white glitter combos.  Most polishes are older, limited edition and/or discontinued...but there are a few that you might be able to grab at Walmart now (Salon Perfect and Pure Ice) and from Five Below.

I decided not to do bottle/label shots for this particular post since that would make this way too picture heavy.  Instead I'll link to as many posts containing the appropriate polishes as I can find.  If I can find where I've used them in a look, I'll link that; otherwise, it will be a haul of some sort (I never posted anything with Rimmel Bling Thing (holiday 2014).  As for the number of coats, most are 1 coat plus fishing/dabbing except for: Star Light, Star Bright is 3 coats, Rockets' Red Glare, 'Murica and Bling Thing are 1.

Starting at #1 and going clockwise: SALON PERFECT Star Light, Star Bright, (Paint the Town Red, White and Blue collection 2014) Save Me A Spot, Speck-Tacular, Star-Spangled, Starred & Striped, Boom Boom Boom, (NEW 2015) Pa-tri-otic, Liberty Bubbles, Spirit Fingers, Rockets' Red Glare; PURE ICE Freedom, Sparks FlyFUNKY FINGERS  Fireworks, 'Murica; RIMMEL Bling Thing; REVLON Celestial Fix; SALLY HANSEN Xtreme Wear Beach BallORLY Black Hole
Individual swatch nails are in same order as listed above

Availability:  Salon Perfect Speck-Tacular, Boom Boom Boom, and Star Light Star Bright from last summer's collection have all been re-promoted in this year's Rockin' the Red White & Blue collection).  The new Salon Perfect glitters this year are: Pa-tri-otic, Liberty Bubbles, Spirit Fingers and Rockets' Red Glare. (Let Freedom Bling - might have been available last year but did not purchase then nor this year - red, white & blue hairy bar glitters).  I do have plans to share the new Salon Perfect glitters in their own post.  Funky Fingers Fireworks is from last year but this year's version is 'Murica.  I did spy Pure Ice Freedom out again this year at Walmart, but didn't notice if Sparks Fly was there as well.  I believe Revlon Celestial Fix has been discontinued; Rimmel Bling Thing and Orly Black Hole are both long-gone limited edition.

Second wheel!  Half needed 1 coat plus fishing/dabbing while the other half needed just 1 coat.  Polishes marked with " + " needed the 1 coat plush fishing/dabbing.  Same thing as above regarding bottle/label shots (not shared about before are Color Club Daydream Believer, Funky Fingers Varsity Blue and Finger Paints Picnic Blanket).  I am missing one red/white glitter polish, OPI Bearest of Them All (has white hearts), from the wheel but I'm also out of room...
Starting at #1 and going clockwise:  WET 'N WILD Fergie 4th of July Parade, Hollywood Walk of Fame +; WET 'N WILD Fast Dry School of Pyrotechnics, Stars & Stripes +, Spontaneous Combustion; ICING Blue Ice +, Written in the Stars +; NICOLE BY OPI Let's Get Star-ted +; SALLY HANSEN Fuzzy Coat Tight Knit; L.A. GIRL Peacock; COLOR CLUB Daydream Believer; CLAIRE'S Flashing Lights+; FUNKY FINGERS Varsity Blue; ICING Galaxy; L.A. GIRL Speckle; SALLY HANSEN Xtreme Wear Rosey Shooter +; FINGER PAINTS Picnic Blanket +; OPI Minnie Style +
Individual swatch nails are in same order as listed above

Availability:  You might get lucky and find Funky Fingers Varsity Blue at Five Below (stock is always changing).  Same thing for Claire's Flashing Lights and Icing Galaxy in their respective stores.  I'm not sure if the Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat polishes are still available in stores or not.  I believe that the rest are all long discontinued and/or limited edition polishes; only one of the polishes from this wheel was purchased this year (Finger Paints Picnic Blanket).  The rest have been in my stash for probably a year or more.

I love how between the 2 wheels I have glitters in stars, stripes (bars), circles, squares and even triangles besides the traditional hex shape.  I also love that they vary in finish from metallic to satin to matte and some are even a mix of finishes.  I bet that some of the non-star glitters would be fun layered under a star topper.  I need to do my nails tomorrow before we go to the airport so hopefully I'll have some inspiration for which I want to use ASAP.

There's still one patriotic glitter topper that came out this year that I'd like to get my hands on - SinfulColors Star Blast Off.  I haven't spotted the display yet but I am definitely searching.  I've checked a few Walgreens and a couple Rite Aids...maybe I should check KMart while I'm out tomorrow.

Do you have many patriotic inspired glitters in your collection?  Are you planning on doing a patriotic mani (if you're in the U.S.)?  Wanna share?

Collective OPI & Nicole by OPI Glitter Purchases

Hi!
**purchased

I was debating on if I should even share some of the polishes I was putting away since I'm not sure how easy they will be to get anymore.  (Shh, don't tell but I seem to be a distracted procrastinator this year).  But I figured that just in case...and maybe for some of them you could suggest a base color to go with them since a couple have really stumped me.  I think that I'll end up with 3 total of this type of post to catch me up with the polishes available at salons/Sally's Beauty (that type of brand).  I might also do this type of post for drugstore brands as well...

I thought today I'd start off with Nicole by OPI and OPI polishes.  I haven't picked up many, one here...a couple there.... The "oldest" one is Nicole by OPI Seriously Citrus, which I picked up from KMart in March.
(back, left to right) Zero is My Hero, In Grape Demand, The Look is Orange, (Seriously Citrus)
(middle row)DC Lover, (front row) Always A Classic Coca-Cola
I bought Seriously Citrus and "seriously" cannot figure out what color to use as a base (sorry, couldn't resist...).  I think blue, well then the blue glitters might not show...green?  then either of the green shades might disappear, same thing with using white.  I'm stumped.  Any suggestions??

Now let's visit the OPI department.  Both of these were probably, at one point, available at Ulta and possibly Sally's Beauty Supply.  I, however, purchased mine from the local beauty supply store (better price) in April.  I had also purchased a random Color Club glitter (Jitters) in the same transaction.  Since I did purchase them at a supply store, the timing on their displays versus Ulta and Sally's was probably different.
OPI Petal Soft, On Pinks & Needles, Color Club Jitters
Jitters is 1 of 7 from the Love Tahiry Pre-Spring 2015 collection (have worn this but haven't posted yet)
Bearest of them All (bought last year; Coca-Cola set with stuffed mini bear)
On Pinks & Needles, Petal Soft (super pale baby matte pink with matte white flowers)

I haven't tried out Petal Soft yet, but I think that's because right now I'm in the mood for bright colors.  I did manage to wear On Pinks & Needles already!
1 coat On Pinks & Needles over 1 coat SinfulColors My Buoyfriend

On Pinks & Needles is a fairly dense glitter topper with multiple sizes of matte neon pink hexes, nice formula.  It dried down pretty quickly, even without using a quick dry top coat.  I was trying to duplicate OPI's My Car has Navy-Gation but missed the mark...oh well, I like this combo.  This wore pretty well on me; I chalk it up to using an OPI glitter on most of my nails since I usually get the best wear from OPI.

side note:  if you can't find OPI On Pinks & Needles, check out Five Below for a dupe:
Alex's Pink Lemonade   (3 for $5 or $2 each)

With these OPI polishes, plus one I talked about earlier in the year and one that I bought last year and somehow missed during the last OPI Sunday Stash Sharing, I probably have enough to do another installment but I'll probably hold off on OPI and do some other brands first.  I really haven't been that intrigued by many of the polishes from OPI this year, and Nicole by OPI is one that I don't often purchase at all unless there's something really unique.

Any suggestions for what to wear under Seriously Citrus?  Do any of these look like polishes you want to add to your stash?

Spotted, Hauled & Swatched - Wet 'n Wild California Dreaming Collection Polishes & Bronzers

Hi!
**purchased

I'm back with a new post today!  Yay!!  Hopefully, this isn't coming too late since it's all about the Wet 'n Wild Summer 2015 California Dreaming Collection.  I only briefly saw the display in Walgreens back in May BUT don't let that stop you from hunting these down (if you like them).  I have seen the remnants of the limited edition polishes either laying on the shelf or piled in a bin, along with the limited edition bronzers - I just saw them like that in the last couple of days.

On to the post!  I've got pictures and swatches of the bronzers, the polishes, a comparison to the Silver Lake collection, and how I actually wore the California Dreaming collection so there's lots of pictures!
There are quite a few lip products (8), but I'm on a complete no lip product shopping ban.  There's also a few liquid liners (3) and mascaras (4).  Along with the 2 matte bronzers, Reserve Your Cabana and Bikini Contest from the core line are in the display.  Down in the polish row, there's also a new top coat.  Check out Nouveau Cheap's post here for names of the lip products.
Re: In Carnation, Sky Me Mine, Green Tease, Bee-U-Tiful, Sun Settle Down

On my nails are 3 coats of Bee-U-Tiful and Green Tease, 2 of the rest (Sun Settle Down, Sky Me Mine, Re: In Carnation):
I did not use top coat in my swatch pictures (might not have even grabbed a base coat??) but I would recommend using a top coat.  I might even add a ridge filling base coat next time I wear these for an even smoother finish - I'm really looking at Green Tease when I type that.

On the nail wheel, every shade got 2 coats
Just for fun, I pulled out the last limited edition Silver Lake collection and lined them all up together with the wheel.  It seems like I had read some concerns about some of the polishes being too close in shade to each other, but I don't think that's the case.
After I did my swatches on one hand, I decided just to leave them on and do my left hand as well...then I had some inspiration and went digging into my drawer of textured(!) polishes and found the perfect partners.  This is how I wore these polishes for a few days since they wore pretty well for me.
I ended up pulling out 4 of the 5 Rimmel Sweetie Crush textured polishes and one Julie G Gumdrop textured polish.  The Rimmel collection didn't include an orange.
TOP ROW: Wet 'n Wild Re: In Carnation, Sky Me Mine, Green Tease -- Rimmel Candyfloss Cutie, Blueberry Whizz, Fizzy Applelicious
BOTTOM: Wet 'n Wild Bee-U-Tiful, Sun Settle Down -- Rimmel Sherbet Sweetheart -- Julie G Tangerine Dream

Moving on to the bronzers:
Bare in Mind and Toast to You
Toast to You (top swatch) definitely leans warmer than Bare in Mind.  Lately I've been using foundations/CC/BB creams that lean more neutral so I think that either will work for me.  Especially if I use a light hand on Toast to You, and use it for more all-over bronzing rather than contouring.

Both of these bronzers are matte in finish, so no worries about the shades overlapping the Silver Lake Trios, either.  Also, they are completely different in tone from the Contouring Duos (Walmart exclusive - oops I never swatched those on the blog).  The base of the compacts is also "matte" or rubbery feeling, like the original U.D. Vice (1) palette, Nars packaging, and the Wet 'n Wild All Access Beauty Matte polish collection from last fall.

Now it's time for me to start searching for the Venice Beach Summer 2015 8-pan palettes (I'm thinking inexpensive way to get neon shades without the U.D. price...)  And I still need to find that patriotic SinfulColors glitter topper!

Are you on the lookout for anything from the Wet 'n Wild California Dreaming collection?  Remember to search the shelves at this point since the display might be long gone!

CoverGirl the Super Sizer Mascara - Influenster Product Review

Hi!
**all items received free from Influenster for review/testing purposes

Wow, long time no blog.  This is basically the first time I've had to sit down in front of the computer in weeks.  We've been so busy with yard work (the never ending task), deep cleaning the house to prep for the first party, of probably many, that the Mister decided he wanted to hold, the cooking to go with that first party - followed up by cooking for an even larger party that was held elsewhere, and then of course all the cleaning up after said parties.  We do have a trip planned at the end of the month as well (hopefully I'll be back into the swing of blogging and maybe have some posts ready to go live while we're out of town).

With all that said, let's get on to the purpose of today's review!  That purpose is to share my review on the CoverGirl the Super Sizer Mascara that I received in my last Influenster VoxBox.  It's taken me a while to figure out how I liked this mascara, and I kept hoping that as the tube was open longer I'd like it better.  The other product that came in my VoxBox was the Intensify Me Liquid Liner that I previously reviewed.

Packaging claims:

  • 400% corner to corner volume (front of package)
  • Lash Styler finds and transforms even small lashes
  • For best results, slightly twirl the Lash Styler as you apply, applying as many coats as needed
  • removes easily with soap and water
  • Opthalmologically tested, hypoallergenic and suitable for those who wear contact lenses

Two different sides of the wand (above and below).  The wand tapers out wider at the end.
 No mascara:
Mascara (not sure how many "coats" since I had to use a lash comb to comb out clumps then had to add more mascara since all the volume/fullness disappeared):
On first use, I did not like this mascara.  I tried doing what the Influenster product card tip said: "start by placing the Lash Styler right at the base of the lashes, use the flat side at the base - you will get an immediate (even shocking!) drenching of mascara."  Yuck.  So much clumpage I was tempted to take everything off.  I didn't, though - instead I had wet, clumpy spider-leg lashes that took forever to dry.  The second time applying, I tried the "twirling the brush" and ended up with a clumpy mess that necessitated a lash comb.  I found the mascara to have a very wet formula and I've come to realize I prefer a drier formula so I don't have clumping.  For me, I would not try to build this mascara unless you like the clumpy spider-lash look.  I did get some decent length out of the mascara, and it is nice and black.  I can see where they claim you get so much more volume, but I don't want clumpy volume.

Now that the mascara's been opened for several weeks and has dried out some, one generous coat is what I've been using lately and it looks decent.  I do like that the shape of the brush makes it easy to go after the inner and very outer lashes without making a mess - I just change the angle of the brush and the wider tip gets them without getting product everywhere (I do this after I've applied it to the main part of my lashes).

I also tried removing this with just a cleanser and water; it does work - it just takes a while.  I've only done it once or twice as my eyes are so sensitive that sometimes even plain water (we have horrible water) can irritate them.  I definitely prefer to use a dedicated eye makeup remover.  As usual, I can't say how this works for contact lens wearers.  Hypoallergenic doesn't mean much to me...  I did notice that the mascara had a strong play-dough-y scent when I first opened it, but I feel like it's gotten lighter (or I've gotten used to it).

On first use, I didn't like the mascara - way too wet for my tastes.  But now that it's been open for over a month, it's dried out to where I do like it.  I only slightly twist the wand during application, but I definitely don't apply the flat side directly to the base of my lashes.  I use it more as a regular mascara wand, but find the larger end very useful to get my outer-most lashes that I do tend to miss on a quick application.  Would I purchase this mascara on my own?  Probably not - I don't really have a favorite mascara, and I think this has enough quirks to keep it from being a favorite.  I will use it until it's done, and probably wash the wand off to keep that part.  You can find the Super Sizer Mascara now in stores and it comes in 3 shades.

Have you tried the CoverGirl the Super Sizer Mascara yet?  Do you prefer wet or dry mascara formulas?
