CoverGirl Intensify Me Liquid Liner - Influenster Product Review

**all items received free from Influenster for review/testing purposes

I've been thinking and thinking about how I feel about the 2 new CoverGirl products I received for testing from Influenster in a VoxBox a few weeks ago.  Clearly, if I've been thinking this long, then I've got some type of issue with one (or both) of the products.  Hopefully you can understand my thoughts on this liner since I feel like my review ended up being long-winded and perhaps a bit jumbled.

Today's review is of the Intensify Me! by LashBlast Liquid Liner in shade 300 Intense Black.  This liner is already in stores, if not on the wall then in the new release counter displays.
Product claims:
  • Control of a pencil
  • Intensity of a liquid liner
  • "paddle-shaped tip gives you two looks in one - thick and dramatic or thin and elegant"
  • "Intense black formula glides on smoothly and dries quickly for instant drama"
  • Ophthalmologically tested
  • Suitable for contact lens wearers (can not test that personally)
  • Removes easily with soap and water

Swatches, single pass each.  Oh, how I wish the blackness of my initial swatches transferred to my eye lids...
It takes me a while each time I try to use the liner, but I can eventually end up with my traditional, go-to winged/cat-eye liner.  This liner is definitely not a one swipe and you're done liner - especially if there's already product on your lid.
In order for me to get the look above, I have to dab the liner using the side/length of the tip - using the end always ends up as a gray line.  I also have to frequently dab the liner on my hand to "reload" the pigment to get the line darker.  After I have the "outline" of my wing, I use the flat side of the tip to essentially color in the empty spot by dabbing.  I almost always end up dabbing along the main part of the line using the flat side as well to get the line darker - I have to be careful to not thicken the line too much doing that.

I do think that if you put this on with absolutely no product on your lid already, you get a better result (which is what's above).  As soon as there's any concealer, powder, primer, eyeshadows...this liner turns into a fail for me.  The tip literally picks up existing color products and then I struggle to get any liner on.  I end up with a decent sized spot on my hand from constantly dabbing the tip to keep reloading it so that hopefully I can get a black line.  On the plus side, I can draw over the same line without it picking up any of the liner itself.

With enough time and patience (and doing my liner before any eyeshadow placement) I can eventually get a nice, fairly crisp line that goes from thin to thick and ends in a point.  In comparison to a pencil liner, it goes on smoothly and much more precise.  Intensity of a liquid liner is where I'm not sure I'd agree.  When I started placing the line of my wing today, it was literally gray until I laid the liner nearly parallel to my face so that I was not using the actual end of the tip.  For me, I feel like if I'm going to use a "liquid" liner, I prefer a brush tip that you dip into a pot (no wonder I prefer gel liners that you apply with a brush).

I do feel that if I lightly rub over the line, it fades away to gray - at least it doesn't smear.  Actually, I think I noticed some fading even if I didn't touch/rub the liner.  The packaging does claim that it "removes easily with soap and water" and I did attempt that the first time I wore it.  It actually did remove fairly well, but I felt like I needed to really take my time (but I also had the mascara on - review upcoming).

So ultimately, what's my decision about the CoverGirl Intensify Me Liquid Liner?  It's...(pause for a few minutes while I ponder)'s not something I absolutely can't stand.  It's all right for when I'm doing very basic makeup (no eyeshadows - it's all about the lips for those days).  For wearing over eyeshadows and/or needing water resistant/proof liner, I still prefer my gel liner from other brands.  I guess that what I'm trying to say is that it has it's place/use but it's not the only liner I want in my collection.

Is the CoverGirl Intensify Me Liquid Liner something that interests you in trying?  What's your preferred type of liner?

Lorac Alter Ego Eye Shadow Palette - Dream Girl

Long time, no post!  While I'm still not quite mentally focused, I know that if I keep skipping blogging, I'll have an even harder time getting back into the groove of blogging.  Right now, I'll try to post as often as possible, but no guarantee that there'll be a post every day...especially with a busy summer gearing up (2 trips that I know of, probably more).  And of course, there's the ever-present need of working with/training/exercising the crazy Kozmo, speaking of...this past week I've been treadmill-training him and so far so good!  This will be perfect for too hot or stormy days - basically days that I want nothing to do with going outside as much as possible.

Anyway, I thought I'd share some swatches of the Lorac Alter Ego Eye Shadow Palette in Dream Girl, which is a Kohl's exclusive.  I used some cash I found in one of my purses that I hadn't used for a while to purchase this a couple weeks ago.  Ulta has a different version of this, which I feel leans more cool toned.

The actual palette is a cute melon colored plastic packaging (my pictures turned it orange).

Left side of the palette, one swipe each:
Right side of the palette, all but one are one swipe each ("highlight" color is 2):
I did not use primer on my hand for these swatches - I didn't even put lotion on first.  Yay for the furnace not sucking all the moisture out of me!  What I'm trying to say is that nearly all of the shades are super pigmented and swatch well.  The blue did swatch a tad patchy, but I think that's a color I would use with a stiffer brush anyway which will probably pack on the color.  I swatched the right-side highlighter a couple of times so it would show up better in my pictures, but unless I was going for a concentrated chunk of that shade on my lid, I wouldn't want it that pigmented for an under-brow highlight.

The only thing missing in the palette is some matte shades.  There's a couple that are more satin, but the rest give either a metallic or almost frosty feel.

Based on my first impressions of the swatches, I'm impressed with the palette and can't wait to start playing with it on my eyes!  I might end up reaching for an outside-the-palette matte shade for the crease, but that isn't a deal breaker for me.  I do think I want to purchase the Ulta version (Heartbreaker) of this as well - I played with it in store a bit and it's gorgeous!

Do you like the quality of the Lorac smaller limited edition palettes?  Do you prefer cooler or warmer tones in your eye looks?  Is the Lorac Alter Ego Dream Girl palette something you want to add to your collection?

Influenster CoverGirl VoxBox - What I Received & Initial Impressions

**all items received free from Influenster for review/testing purposes

I finally got my camera's memory card working on my computer again!!  Yay!  It feels like it's been a long time since I've done an Influenster campaign, but in reality, my last review for Influenster was done in February.  Maybe time feels like it's dragging since I stay home even more now than before so there's not a lot of people interaction - just Kozmo and the kitties to keep me company.  Anyway....
This Influenster VoxBox consists of just 2 items, both brand new from CoverGirl.  I received the "Intensify Me! by LashBlast" liquid liner in 300 Intense Black and The Super Sizer by LashBlast mascara in 800 Very Black.
Being that I'm not going out as much as I used to, I'm not wearing makeup as much as I was.  But I'm always up for trying out new makeup items and the timing's perfect since at the end of the April almost all of my current mascaras went into the empties bag and my current liquid liner seems to be on its last legs.  It's definitely nice to have a reason to put on makeup right now since I've been feeling so stressed/anxious over Kozmo's "antics" both in the yard (on and off leash) and in Petsmart when he sees other dogs.

I know I've seen at least the Super Sizer Mascara in some stores already - the color of the tube makes it quite eye catching.  I don't quite recall seeing the Intensify Me! eyeliner yet, but it's probably also starting to hit the stores.  This is only the 3rd CoverGirl mascara I recall ever using so it's nice to try out something new from a brand that has such a cult following for their mascaras.  I haven't tried hardly any liners at all from CoverGirl, either.  I've been testing these out off and on for the last week or so, but I'm still trying to decide my final thoughts.  Reviews will be coming soon!

Have you spotted either of these new CoverGirl products in stores yet?  Do you like CoverGirl's LashBlast line of mascaras?  How do you feel about their liners?
