Lorac The Resort Eye/Cheek Palette Swatches & Review

I really wasn't in the mindset yesterday to sit in front of the computer and write a post - I just watched videos while trying to de-stress and absorb training tips.  Turns out if I'm not watching reviews/tutorials relating to beauty products, I'm now watching training videos for Kozmo.  I tried a couple of things with him earlier today, and while he did do both pretty quickly, he's definitely not ready to do them without a lure in my hand.  Oh well, one step at a time.  On Thursday we're getting a private session since he's getting much more "adolescent German Shepherd," meaning that rather than watching and focusing on me he's more into the environment and ignoring all commands - he's guarding instead of learning.  He's making me wish I could actually tolerate running for more than a minute at a time so that he could get more energy out each day.  One of these days, I might have to see what he does if I'm on a bike (he barks at the neighbor every time he sees him ride by).

Back to the blog...So while I was thinking about what to post today, I was checking Instagram and saw a post from Hautelook that made me decide what to put up here on the blog - LORAC!  The last time that Lorac was on Hautelook, the Resort Eye/Cheek Palette was the big draw.  I grabbed it as almost the first thing I did that day.  Well, it's back starting tomorrow!  So it's the perfect time to share my swatches.

All swatches done in my lightbox, no primer (might have had some lotion on, though).
left half of the palette, top row has a pretty pearl highlighter (large square and bottom left swatch) with a matte skintone shadow (I circled the swatch since it blends with my skin)
left half of the palette, bottom row has a matte black and matte dark brown along with a olive green that contains some golden shimmer - so pretty
right half of the palette, top row has rose gold metallic and bronze metallic shadows and a peachy-pink blush
right half of the palette, bottom row has a rosey pink matte blush and a neutral matte bronzer

All of these shades swatched very nicely on my hand.  The only shade I had to build up any was the skintone shade, and that's for an understandable reason.  I have grabbed a touch of the matte dark brown to use in an eye look using random single shadows and it blended beautifully.  I can't wait to get that olive green on my eyes!  I really need to play around with the palette and try out everything but I really recommend trying to snatch one up either from Hautelook or if you stumble across it at Nordstrom Rack (I read about that happening a week or so ago).

If you're interested in getting the Lorac Resort palette from Hautelook, it'll be up tomorrow (April 30) at 8 AM Pacific.  The Balm Cosmetics is listed as an upcoming event for Friday (May 1) at 8 AM Pacific.  Tarina Tarantino Beauty (ends 8 AM Pacific on Saturday, May 2) and BH Cosmetics (ends 8 AM Pacific on Friday, May 1) are both currently on sale.

Does the Lorac Resort Eye/Cheek Palette look like something you'd be interested in?  Do you shop from Hautelook or avoid it because of the really slow shipping?

Spotted, Hauled & Swatched - Wet 'n Wild Silver Lake Blush & Glow Trio Collection

I was doing so good this week with posting and really wanted to get my posts up the last couple of days but once again life has interfered.  Kozmo is doing better with having his feet handled (yay!!) and I think it's because I've been working with him on that so much the last couple of days, along with "touch" and "watch me" thrown in when it seems like he needs a quick break from paw work.  The Mister has kept me busy the last couple of nights with memory work for a presentation coming up.  Doesn't he realize that the evenings/early nights are "my" time for blogging?  I did tell him one day that Tomo (the Bengal cat) gets my attention in the mornings, Kozmo gets it in the afternoons and then evenings/early nights are my time - Kitty pops in whenever he feels like it.  Today I was having a hard time getting going since I've had heartburn for the last couple of days and last night was really bad - even with taking a pill that's normally very effective, I was still uncomfortable laying down so I had a short night.

A few weeks ago, I saw word of a blush trio collection that ties in with the Silver Lake collection being released.  Being as much of a Wet 'n Wild junkie as I am, I had to find them!  Word was, they were starting their appearance at Rite Aid stores.  I'm also just starting to see the polishes and eye shadow palettes landing at Rite Aid now (previously I'd only seen them at Walgreens).

Anyway, when I was out earlier this week getting bloodwork done, I stopped into a couple of Rite Aid's searching for the Wet 'n Wild Silver Lake Blush & Glow Trio collection.  I had tried last week without success, but this week (and at a different location) I had success!  I don't really have any review to share with you since they are such a recent find, but I can give you some initial impressions based on swatches.
My lightbox changed the colors quite a bit, so down in the post I have pictures in different lighting conditions that will hopefully give a better idea of how these look.

Solar Powered, regular room light:

Since I literally just found these a few days ago, I haven't used any of these on myself yet.  Normally when I don't have to leave the house, I generally don't put makeup on at all unless I feel like using a BB cream for my SPF instead of just a plain SPF or SPF moisturizer.  Based on swatches, I think I'll get the least amount of use out of Solar Powered since both the highlight and bronzer are dark and somewhat metallic and lean bronze - I can see myself using the blush out of it a lot, though.  Sunset Junction and Fair Trade Coffee will probably get the most use by me - both highlights look like an appropriate color for my fair complexion and the blushes look like they'll be easily usable.  I probably have to use either a duo-fiber or very fluffy brush for the blush in Fair Trade Coffee.

Have you come across the Wet 'n Wild Silver Lake Blush & Glow Trio collection?  Do any of them catch your eye to add to your stash?  How about the polish collection or eye shadow palettes?  Random question: any favorite remedies for heartburn?

March Clearance Finds - Essie, China Glaze & Finger Paints

I was thinking all afternoon that I should do my nails in an Earth Day inspired look...but when I started playing around I did not like anything I came up with.  So now I'm sitting here typing with only base coat on my nails, and watching training videos for how to work on some issues with Kozmo.  I really want to stave off his developing aggression during nail trimming, along with some other "quirks" he's developing.

So I thought that given my nail fail and subsequent giving up, I'd share some clearance finds I've had during March.  There's not much since I wasn't purposely trying to hit up all the sales.  It seems like Sally's Beauty has done quite a few 50% off clearance prices sales, but I only went to one of them, and only one location.  In the past I would have gone to all 3 Sally's that are close to where I live.
Finger Paints Santa's Little Topper and China Glaze Sunset Sail
(not on sale) ASP Whitening Nail Paste
China Glaze Sunset Sail is an older polish from 2011.  When I spotted the bottle it looked like a nice nude, but on closer inspection I saw it's got a bit of silver shimmer running through.  And since sparkles/shimmer make it better (that's what I like to say), it came home with me.  I also picked up the Finger Paints Santa's Little Topper.  I had originally passed on it thinking it was really close to Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Rosey Shooter but I think it's got a bit of a different glitter mix.

I bought the Whitening Paste when I was still dealing with staining from a polish (that for the life of me I can't remember which one it was - hope I made a note somewhere).  I haven't used it yet but at least I have it on hand for if/when I've got some stubborn stains.

These other 2 polishes were a Rite Aid clearance find.  And it was pretty perfect timing since I had decided when updating my polish stash list that I wanted to complete my LuxEffects collection as much as possible.  These were on sale for $4.25 each!
Essie Sparkle On Top and Jazzy Jubilant

Essie Sparkle On Top is "iridescent shards and flecks of glitter in a clear base" (borrowed that description from The PolishAholic since I get shards and flakies mixed up).  Essie Jazzy Jubilant is a multi-colored metallic hex glitter topper with a clear base.  It has turquoise, red, purple, silver, and green glitters; the glitters come in a couple different sizes.

I know that I'll never come across a bottle of Shine of the Times since it's been discontinued for a couple years now.  The other LuxEffect that I'm missing from my stash is Rock at the Top.  It'd be nice if I could find it on clearance somewhere, but I'll most likely end up picking it up from the local supply store at some point since Essie is cheaper than retail there.  They also have Pinking About You (not my post), a multi-sized matte pink glitter topper, in the racks that I want to add to my stash.  Since I always have formula issues with the cremes and I really prefer wider brushes, I probably won't be adding much Essie to my stash in the future - except for LuxEffects/unique glitters.  Hopefully Essie will come out with some new & good ones this year (I might make an exception for a creme if it has a really good review on formula and it's truly unique).

Have you found any good polishes on clearance lately?  Do you have many of the Essie LuxEffects glitters in your stash?  What's your favorite method of getting polish stains off the nails?

Sally Hansen Luxe Lace Glitters - Swatches + Review

I managed to not get blown away today - yay! - we had a high wind advisory all day.  And I got a couple of things that had to be done checked off the list, as well as a nice stroll around the mall and an excellent visit with one of the ladies that works at the Lancome counter at Dillards (it's gift with purchase time!).

I've got a nail swatch post to share today.  Back when I was swatching/playing with the new Wet 'n Wild Silver Lake polishes, I still had the glitter toppers I had picked up from the Luxe Lace & Patent display sitting out and un-played with.  So I decided to play around with the trio I had picked up since the collections seemed to want to play well with each other.  These glitters came out in the Patent Gloss & Luxe Lace collection (not my post), which I first read about in November.  It was actually quite a while before I picked up anything from the display, but then I decided to get the 3 that I knew I didn't have any like in my collection and passed on the black version (I also passed entirely on the Patent Gloss section of the display).  Now when I go to Walmart or the drugstores, I see 2 of the ones I purchased, along with the black, in the core lineup for less than $6.
Crochet, Eyelet, Intimate
All 3 of these are 1 coat with a little dabbing/placing over their respective base colors.
pinkie is Crochet over 3 coats of Wet 'n Wild Stream of Consciousness
ring is Eyelet over 1 coat of Wet 'n Wild Wear Skinny Jeans
middle is Intimate over 1 coat of Reject the Mainstream

Looking at this picture wearing a total of 7 polishes(!), I actually really like the way they all coordinate together.  Who knows, I might do my nails like this on both hands one of these days.  It's a nice Spring-y combo, and it could also work perfectly for other "soft" occasions.  As for dupes, while I was writing this post, I thought I'd grab my bottle of China Glaze Chillin' With My Snow-Mies to see how similar they are.  Sally Hansen Eyelet actually has more sizes of matte glitters than Chillin,' and I think that overall Eyelet looks more satin in finish than the more flat finish of Chillin'.  So according to my stash, Eyelet doesn't have a dupe.  However, I can't say whether there is a dupe in the indie world.

This trio of toppers all follow the same formula, with satin-matte white hex glitters in multiple sizes mixed with either a medium blue or baby pink.  Eyelet is the all white version.  I did have a tiny bit of bubbling with Intimate, but that could have been brought on by a little too much dabbing to get an even disbursement of glitters.  From what I remember, the suspension base wasn't too bad and I don't have any notes saying anything negative about the formula.

Out of the 4 matte glitter toppers released in the collection, 3 of them are now in the core display.  The 2 of those that I have are Crochet and Eyelet; the one I don't have is Ruffle (black matte glitters).  Intimate is the only one that was truly limited edition.  I still might pick up Ruffle since I think it's different from the black glitter I have from Forever 21; at least now I can pick it up at Walmart whenever I feel like it.

Did you pick up any of the Sally Hansen Luxe Lace Glitters when they first hit the market?  Do you prefer matte or metallic/shiny/holo glitters?

Collective Walmart Haul - Wet 'n Wild, Hard Candy, Salon Perfect, etc...

2 days in a row!!  I'm hoping this means I'm off to a good start and will stay consistent with returning to the blog.  While I've been trying to not purchase much in the way of makeup, skincare or polish this month - actually this year, even though the Mister wouldn't believe that - I did come across some file folders on my computer of un-shared hauls.  So I thought that I would share some of the products I purchased from Walmart during February and March today.  I have purchased a couple of things there this month, but haven't taken pictures (they'll probably be shared on Instagram since it was literally one thing here, one there).

These are roughly in order from when I purchased them.  The first 2 "group shots" are all items that I bought one at a time over different visits.
Hard Candy Fierce Effects High Intensity Shadow duo in Soft & Sultry
Hard Candy Celebrate Sequins (square silver holo glitter!!)
Trendsetters Eyeshadow Collection (10 shade MATTE palette) in Birthday Suit
Hard Candy Celebrate Sequins (shown again), Pure Ice Pure Icicles,
Salon Perfect Razzle Dazzle and Rough Around the Edges, SinfulColors Ice Blue

As soon as I read about Wet 'n Wild releasing 2 contouring palettes, I went on the hunt.  Most of the Walmarts I went to only had a space for one shade - Caramel Toffee (below) - so I snatched it up and continued my searching for the 2nd.
I think we're now into the March purchases.  This group shot is showing one purchase.  I was needing a new spoolie and I hadn't been happy with how my eyebrows had been looking, hence all the brow stuff.  And I found the 2nd Wet 'n Wild contouring palette.
Wet 'n Wild A Clear Conscience Brow Shaper, Brow Pencil in Blond Moments, Contouring Kit in Dulce De Leche, Cover Girl Bombshell Pow-Der Brow Liner in Medium Brown
ELF Eyelash & Brow Brush

And now for my last multi-item purchase, which had a repurchase item, a couple items I knew I wanted to get (especially since this was before traveling), and then one impulse purchase.
Pond's Clarant B3 Dark Spot Correcting Cream (1.75 oz - travel section) - this was the impulse
ELF High Definition Undereye Setting Powder (repurchase), Cover Girl Clump Crusher Water Resistant Mascara in Very Black and Yes to Coconut Cooling Lip Oil

Huh...here I thought I hadn't bought that much during February and March but when you lay it all out, there's quite a bit of products pictured above.  I've used quite a lot of the items already, but there are a few that I haven't gotten into yet.  I can tell you that I've put quite a dent in the ELF undereye powder (of course) and the Wet 'n Wild brow pencil; I've also used the shadow palette, mascara and Caramel Toffee contouring palette a fair amount.  In fact, some of the shades from the Birthday Suit palette are on my eyes today, as is the Clump Crusher mascara and Wet 'n Wild brow pencil.

Even though there's quite a bit pictured, I'm happy that I can say that all of the items were $10 or less - some were way less.  I do feel like I purchased a couple other Hard Candy products earlier this year but for some reason, I never took a picture of them to share.  I had picked up the Hard Candy So Baked Sculpting Trio in 3X A Charm and a Plumping Serum Lipstick in Infamous.

I'm hoping I stumble across the Hard Candy Anniversary products, but so far...nothing.  I wish that they'd put out a time frame for when to look for items.  From a little digging I just did, it looks like sometime in May (according to a post from Swatch and Learn I found on Instagram here) - I hope that applies to the U.S. as well since she's based in Canada.

Have you picked up anything fun from Hard Candy lately?  What's your favorite brow product(s)?  If there's anything you'd like swatches of, or a review of, please let me know!

Sunday Stash Sharing - China Glaze Miscellaneous Spring, Summer & Holiday

Wow!!! it's been a really long time since I've been able to sit down in front of the computer for any length of time.  Let's not even discuss how horrible my email inboxes are.  Life has been busy this month.  Way back at the start of the month, we were in New Mexico for the weekend - such a great weekend that neither of us wanted to come back when it was time to head to the airport.  During the weeks since then, I feel like I've barely been at home with so much running around needing done.  Since I haven't had any time to go looking, I still have to head to my parents' home to be able to do laundry since our dryer died a couple months ago.  I'm also spending a lot of time with Kozmo working on his training - he's just starting the advanced class at Petsmart and we'll be working on his skills for the test at the end.  That will be interesting since you're not allowed to use a gentle leader/head collar during the test at all, as well as no treats for incentive - we use both.  We've got a lot of work to do over the next 6 weeks.  Now that Ohio is finally having Spring weather, that means that outside garden work has started...and I've already gotten my first blister.  Ouch.  While it's not anywhere close to time to plant anything, it is time to try to eradicate all the weeds (the never ending battle).  Anyway, enough life updates...let's move on to the polish.

Since it's Sunday, I'm getting back into the swing of blogging by doing a Sunday Stash Sharing.  Last I left off, I still had some China Glaze in the drawer to share.  All but one of these were purchased on clearance (either Sally's Beauty Supply or Ulta).  While I have worn a few of these, I don't believe I've shared the manis yet.  But while I was editing these pictures, some of the brighter shades caught my eye as something that might end up on my nails soon.  If/when that happens, I'll try to remember to add links.

Let's kick things off with some bright colors!
Sky High-Top, Happy Go Lucky, In the Lime Light
When they're from:
  • Sky High-Top is from the Summer 2009 Kicks collection
  • Happy Go Lucky is from the Spring 2010 Up and Away collection
  • In the Lime Light is, I think, from the Summer 2010 Neon collection - I had a really hard time figuring this one out for some reason

The next trio are all holiday releases, but from 2 different years:
Chillin' With My Snow-Mies; Put A Bow On It; Be Merry, Be Bright
When they're from:
  • Chillin' With My Snow-Mies is from the Holiday 2014 Twinkle collection
  • Put A Bow On It and Be Merry, Be Bright are from the Christmas 2013 Happy HoliGlaze collection

And today's last trio:
If In Doubt, Surf It Out; Fancy Pants; Sunset Sail
When they're from:

  • If In Doubt, Surf It Out is from the Summer 2014 Off Shore collection
  • Fancy Pants is from the Spring 2013 Avant Garden collection
  • Sunset Sail is from the Spring 2011 Anchors Away collection

This post gets me caught up with my China Glaze stash, not counting my most recent purchase.  I'll need to decide what brand to move on to next, so if you've any requests, let me know!  And of course, if you'd like to see any of these on my nails soon, let me know that as well!
