Project "Finish This Stuff," part 32 - May 2014

Hi!
**purchased / g.w.p. /
requested sample

Yep, I'm still way behind on posting my monthly updates for my Project "Finish This Stuff."  But everything's still hanging around in my bathroom waiting on me to share.  It'll be nice to get some of the beauty trash cleared out, especially since I've been in the mood for cleaning/organizing lately.  Hopefully I'll have my June finishes up rather soon, and of course, July.

So let's travel back in time to May and see what what all I finished, as well as what I decided just to kick out of my stash.  As always, I've included mini reviews of everything that left an impression on me, whether good or bad.
Celadon Essential Skin Moisturizer - given to me (a long time ago). So happy this is finally finished!  The scent was way too strong for my preference.  Maybe it's gotten stronger over time? I don't know.  But it's done and I would not purchase (don't know where to purchase either).
Bath & Body Works anti-bacterial hand soap in Eucalyptus Mint - purchased from B&BW.  While I liked the minty scent, the Mister hated it so it took me forever to use it up after I moved it to my little half-bathroom off my office.  Won't repurchase this.
Ulta Smooth & Protect with Keratin shampoo (travel size) - I believe this was a gift with purchase.  While I normally stick to shampoos that only say "for color-treated hair" I didn't notice this one really fading/stripping my color out.  I actually did like this.  Since it is a keratin product, I'm not sure how good it is to use continually long term, but I can see myself potentially using this every once in a while to help nourish my hair (especially the highlighted sections).  Might purchase.
Onyx Professional 100% Pure Acetone - purchased from Walmart.  Not much to say about this other than this is what I use when I have glitter polish on and don't have time to wait for Zoya Remove + to gently work.  It does dry out my nails and cuticles so lotion and oil is a must after.  Will repurchase eventually (I bought a replacement from Sally's Beauty Supply).
Neutrogena Deep Clean Nightly Cleanser - purchased from Walmart.  This is what I used to use with my Clarisonic...before I found something I like better.  This cleanser was alright, I didn't really notice it stripping my skin like other cleansers have done.  Since I've for the most part moved away from drugstore skincare, I won't repurchase.
Peter Thomas Roth Acne Spot and Area Treatment (contains 5% sulfur) - purchased from Ulta.  I really liked this spot treatment, especially since my skin doesn't respond to salicylic acid and it hates benzoyl peroxide.  I wish I could repurchase, but I believe this has been discontinued from both Ulta and Sephora - major sad face :-(  I supposed I could order directly from the Peter Thomas Roth site....
CeraVe Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 50 - purchased from Walmart.  Last year when I started using this, I really liked it.  But then I decided I wanted to get away from drugstore skincare products for a while.  When I went to finish the tube (had not expired) back in May, I could not believe that I used to like this stuff!  This time around, I did not like this one bit.  It left a white cast to my skin (despite product claims), I had a very difficult time getting this worked in evenly around my eyebrows and it felt heavy.  I was so happy to finish this and move on.  Maybe last year I convinced myself it was good stuff since it was water-resistant (and it did hold up to being in our pool back then).  But I definitely won't repurchase.
Tarte Maracuja C-Brightener Eye Treatment- sample from Sephora.  This wasn't really enough to see if it was going to cause the under-eye pore congestion/milia like many eye creams do.  I might re-sample (hopefully I'll be able to get a large enough one to be able to tell - my under eyes take about 2 weeks to show congestion)
2 random hotel body lotion sample packs - meh.  Used them because I had them.
Lancome Definicils Mascara (deluxe sample) - either in a kit or gift with purchase.  I really did like this mascara.  I kept meaning to do a review on it but never go to it.  BUT I do have at least 1 more deluxe sample.  Not sure if I'd purchase - $27.50 seems quite pricey for a mascara that needs to be trashed after a few months... When I eventually bust open a new tube of this, I'll be sure to do a review.

Now this last group of items are things that fall under the Trashed but Not Finished category.
2 Physicians' Formula Organic Wear blushes - bought from Dollar Tree.  Absolutely no pigmentation at all.  Won't repurchase.
Neosporin + Pain Relief cream - purchased from Walmart.  This tube just got too old to use.  I keep one of these around for any acne spots on my face that get super irritated/start bleeding as well as cuts (and the occasional extremely dry/cracked areas).  I prefer the cream to the ointment since I feel that there's less chance of clogging pores if/when I use it on my face.  Already repurchased.
Orly Brush-On Nail Glue - came in an Orly nail repair kit from Sally's Beauty Supply.  I really liked this glue; it's a shame that it tipped over between uses and somehow leaked enough it glued itself shut.  Sally's doesn't sell this on it's own unfortunately.  Want to repurchase but I'm having a hard time finding it on its own (I got a different brand from Sally's that is brush on and it just does not work as well).
Revlon ColorStay Makeup for Combination/Oily Skin in 110 Ivory - purchased from Rite Aid.  I really did try to like this stuff; I used 2/3 of the bottle trying to like it.  I just couldn't.  No matter how I applied it, I could see all my acne and scars/pigmentation through it and it broke down on me after only about half a day.  Not to mention the fact that I believe I was getting some of my breakouts from it, no matter how well I removed my makeup (double cleansing with a Clarisonic on the 2nd cleaning and toning).  Won't repurchase. ~~ I do like the ColorStay Whipped formula and have not noticed new acne even after wearing it several days straight. ~~
Revlon Nearly Naked Pressed Powder in 010 Fair - purchased from Rite Aid.  This was a decent powder.  The Fair shade does run a tiny tad dark, but lately I've been using BB/CC creams that are a tad dark and the Mister likes that more than when I do a perfect match.  I used most of the pan but wasn't able to dig out the sides without messing up my brush and didn't want to scrape it all out to use as a loose powder.   I do wish it helped to control the oiliness of my t-zone more, but I've yet to meet that powder.  I liked it enough to have already repurchased (a long time ago).  Once I get through a couple more powders, I'll be getting into my backup and I think I'll be happier with it now that my perspective on what shade looks good has been updated.

That wraps up all of my May finishes and things that got trashed even though not finished.  I ended up trashing almost as many things as I finished if you don't count the tiny samples.  While I wished I could say that I finished more things, I am happy that I got that much out of my stash.

What have you finished lately?  What's your favorite oil-control powder?  Inquiring mind(s) want to know!
