Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Collection - What I've Bought

**all items purchased by me

Anyone else super easy to distract?  I know I am.  I sat down an hour ago to work on my post and instead started cleaning out my SkyDrive/OneDrive to make room for new pictures that I took this evening.  Oops.  At least I did decide earlier on today what I wanted to post, which is all the polishes that I've picked up from Nicole by OPI's Carrie Underwood collection.  I knew when I first saw the promos that I for sure wanted the 2  in-your-face glitters; beyond that I wasn't sure if I would pick up any others.  I bought the first one way back in January and the other 2 in February.  One of these for sure has already been shared in a haul post, but I'm not sure about the other 2.  Just a warning - my camera had a hard time with the sparkle/holo-ness of the glitters, especially since both the Mister and I were changing settings on it while traveling last week.
top picture is at Giant Eagle; the bottom is quite a while later at KMart (but labeled as Modern Family - oops)
Lips are Dripping Honey, Party Bus, Sweet Daisy
Here's what's actually on my nails right now.  I started with a coat of Seche Recondition then Orly Bonder.  Ring fingers and thumbs have 1 coat of Sinful Colors Leap Flog with a second coat of Athens (super distracted so I grabbed the wrong bottle when I went in for the 2nd coat) while the rest are 2 coats of Sweet Daisy.  I topped everything off (after the glitters) with a nice layer of NYC Grand Central Station quick dry top coat.
I have 1 coat (plus fishing for flowers) of Party Bus on my ring fingers and 1 coat of Lips are Dripping Honey on my middle and index fingers.  Pinkies and thumbs are sparkle-less - being different.
Lips are Dripping Honey, Party Bus, Sweet Daisy
~all are 2 coats on the wheel, but Party Bus has a little fishing for flowers as well

I'm not sure if I'm going to get any more from the collection at this point or not.  A lot of the shades are basics which I probably have dupes of in my stash.  I think that Sinful Colors Athens is pretty close to Goodbye Shoes so even though I do like that color, there's no real point in purchasing it in the future.  I'd even go so far as to say it's "My Version of."  I think that Carrie'd Away might be unique compared to what's in my stash so that one has a higher likelihood of coming home with me than the other creme shades.  Same thing for Sing You Like a Bee (white with golden shimmer).

Did you get any from the Carrie Underwood collection?  Do any look like dupes to colors from other brands?

CoverGirl Constant Candy

**all items purchased by me

I'm so happy that today's finally Thursday!  But the day completely got away from me!  I lost a few hours somewhere along the way.  Oh, well.  This week has felt like it's been dragging along, probably because last week I only had to get work clothes for the Mister prepped for one day and this week it's been all 5.

Anyway...on to pretty part of today's post.  Huh, 2 CoverGirl posts in a not intentional.  This is actually the first CoverGirl polish that I've purchased since the line was reformulated and came out last year (I think it was last year...maybe the year before?).  I just picked this up from the clearance section of Ulta earlier this year in February.

This is 2 coats of CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant polish in 135 Constant Candy over Orly Bonder.  Please don't mind the various cuts on my fingers - Tomo got me good around the time this was on my nails.

The up close picture is rather unforgiving; the pictures down below are much closer to how this looked in real life.  I found the formula and brush easy to control and didn't need hardly any clean-up.  Constant Candy is on the sheer side of a soft baby pink, but I really like it.  This would be a good color for a traditional French manicure, but I like it under glitter polishes.  I had paired this with OPI Gaining Mole-Mentum but, unfortunately, the pictures didn't turn out well at all.  I'll have to recreate that combo soon.
This polish wore surprisingly well on me.  The lasting time before it chipped was comparable to how OPI/Nicole by OPI wears on me, which is 3-4 days before cracking/chipping/peeling.  I've actually had this on my nails a few times since purchasing this one.  It impressed me so much that now I'm checking out the line a bit more, especially if I spot a shade on clearance somewhere.

Do you have a favorite CoverGirl Outlast polish?

Spotted - CoverGirl XL Nail Gel Polishes

**nothing purchased

While I was out this evening buying some gardening supplies I was attempting to decide what to post for today.  By the time I was on my way home, I still hadn't decided but that all changed when I made a last minute decision to stop in Walgreens.  My decision was made once I spotted a new display of CoverGirl polishes.

Meet the new XL Nail Gel polish line from CoverGirl!  The price had yet to be put on the display and I didn't pick up any...yet.
6 shades total on the display - all the orange bottles are the same shade
740 Haughty Lemon and 790 Overblown Orange
760 Buxom Blue and 750 Plump It Pear
710 Whole Lotta Guava and 770 Plumped-up Plum

I believe these shades are all creme finishes.  The bottles hold.44 fl. oz. compared to the full-size .37 fl. oz. bottles of the Outlast Stay Brilliant line.  Their claim is "plump gel-like finish plus intense shine."  While the colors are definitely not original, the purple Plumped-up Plum is drawing my eye.  And I love the name of the pink - Whole Lotta Guava - it just makes me smile.

Do you think you'll pick up any of these new CoverGirl polishes?

Nordstrom Rack & Nordstrom Mini Haul!

**all items purchased by me /
requested samples

I've got another haul today!  It's just a baby sized haul from when we were in DC last week.  While the Mister was at his conference for work, I took a little walk to Pentagon City in Arlington Virginia.  On the way I also stopped in the Pentagon Centre that had a Nordstrom Rack inside - first time I've ever been to a Nordstrom Rack.  I was in the mood to be out of the hotel room, but not truly in the mood for shopping...wrong time of the month, and I wasn't about to try any tourist-y places on my own.  I do think that if we're able to make it back to that area around the Fall it would be a perfect place for me to look for the next dress I'll be needing in December.

I only found one thing I wanted to get from Nordstrom Rack.  It's the Lorac Downtown Drama cool eye shadow palette.

All the shades BUT the purple swatched well (1 swipe each).  The purple required 3-4 times going over to get it to show that well so it will definitely need a base to show up.  My favorite shade, just based on swatching, is the second color which is a metallic antique gold color.  The palette does have a range of finishes - satin, metallic and matte.

Once I crossed the street to go into Fashion Centre (Pentagon City) I wondered around for a while, popping into Sephora to look for new things from Nars and Kat Von D, neither of which they had yet.  Then I went to the MAC store, not impressed with customer service (I was ignored).  I basically walked all around all 4 floors of the mall before finally making my way to the beauty section of Nordstrom.  I wanted to see if I could get a sample of the Armani foundation I had tried last month and then visit the Kiehl's counter.
My carton full of Kiehl's samples and a sample jar of Armani Lasting Silk foundation #2 and a sample of Philosophy's Purity wash.
1 pack of Cucumber Herbal Alcohol-Free Toner, 2 packs of Ultra Facial Moisturizer, 2 packs of Acne Blemish Control Daily Skin-Clearing Treatment, 2 packs of Micro-Blur Skin Perfector, 2 sample jars of Ultra Facial Cleanser and a .17 fl. oz. tube of Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate

The Kiehl's associate decided that I was using all the wrong products from the line (even though they've been working out for me so far) so she sent me home with a bunch of different products to try.  The Mister was impressed with how many samples she had fixed me up with.

That's everything that I came home with from DC...other than groceries since we stopped at a few ethnic/Arabic/middle eastern grocery stores.  Probably if I'd been feeling better I might have been able to find other things, or if I'd been willing to drive a bit outside of the city.  I considered going to a different Sephora that actually had, I believe, the full line of Cover FX products in store.  I also considered trying to find a CCO but I think that was an hour or more from where we were staying.

When you travel do you look for makeup/skincare that you don't have easy access to where you live?

CVS Collective Haul!

**all items purchased by me

I'm still here, promise.  Tonight's the first opportunity I've had to really sit down in front of the computer and do anything for the blog in about a week.  I'm feeling like in real life everything is happening and/or needs taken care of all at the same time so sadly my computer time gets pushed to the end of the list.  Hopefully things will be calming down so I can try to get back to my "me" time for my own blogging and reading blogs/watching videos that I'm subscribed to.

Anyway, in an effort to attempt to get back on schedule, I thought I'd share a little collective CVS haul.  I haven't bought much from there this year, but I've bought a few things.

So back around the end of January, Milani was on sale (buy one get one 50%), plus I had a couple of CVS coupons so I got both of these for less than the price of one!
05 Luminoso and 08 Coralina (next picture is color accurate) Baked Powder Blushes

Then in the middle of February I had another CVS coupon so I got another amazing deal on this Rimmel ScandalEyes pencil - well under $1!
003 Bad Girl Bronze

And then in the beginning of March, I had a CVS coupon good on Nicole by OPI polishes, plus I had a manufacturer's coupon, so I got $3 off of this polish.
Sweet Daisy from the Carrie Underwood collection

Milani's Luminoso has rapidly become a favorite blush - it stayed out on top of my vanity until a couple weeks ago before I finally put it inside the drawer (didn't want Tomo the crazy kitten knocking it onto the floor while we were out of town since I made myself take a different blush to play with).  I've also had the Sweet Daisy polish on my nails for a couple of days didn't get any pictures before I got busy cleaning and it chipped) and really liked it, so I'll have to recreate that mani soon.  I am still planning on doing a post on all the shades (with swatches) I've purchased from the Carrie Underwood collection.  I still need to put the Rimmel ScandalEyes to the test.

Can you believe that's all that I've bought from CVS this year?!  Other things that I've wanted I've found at other stores that are a closer drive so I haven't felt the need to go searching for anything there.  I'm starting to think it's easier to cut back on spending if I just decide to cut out going to a certain store; in this case, CVS.  Maybe I should put store restrictions on myself each month - Bed, Bath & Beyond would be a good one to avoid for a while now (they've been on top of new/limited edition releases lately).  I do want to get a couple of Milani polishes that recently came out that are dupes to a couple of Finger Paints glitter polishes; I'll wait until Milani goes on sale again and/or I have a CVS coupon.

See anything you have already?  See anything you want to try?  What's your favorite Milani blush shade?

Island Coral got Sugar Coated

**all items purchased by me

Since the Spring weather is slowly starting it's time to start making my toes pretty again!  Of course, 2 days after I got polish on it snowed again so my pretty polish combo will be staying inside of socks for a while.  This darn Ohio weather, so confused.

Anyway, while this is what's on my toes currently I also put it on my thumb nail to share here on the blog.  I started off with Sinful Colors Island Coral and then added a coat of Icing's Sugar Coated.
For my thumb nail, I just needed 2 coats of Island Coral...but on my toes I needed a 3rd since I have major ridges running across the nails.  It might have helped if I had used a ridge-filling base coat and/or given the worst nails a buff first but I didn't.  Next time.  I didn't use any topcoat, either since I was working on the computer and not moving around.  Island Coral is a nice creme coral color, which is a shade I am craving right now in both polishes and blushes.
Icing's Sugar Coated is a pretty fine glitter topper with quite a bit of holo sparkles mixed in.  I'd describe it as a fairly neutral pale silver glitter topper.  It's got a clear base so I can see it working over just about any color for a splash of interest that isn't an in-your-face chunky glitter.
I love this combination of polishes and I can see getting a lot of use out of Sugar Coated over other shades!

Do you have some nails that give you more difficulty in applying polish than others?

Too Faced Candy Bar Palette- Swatches + Initial Impressions

**all items purchased by me

I finally have my swatches done for my Too Faced Candy Bar palette.  I actually bought this palette back in January and am just now really getting to know it.  When I was in Ulta a couple days ago (big surprise, right?) I saw more of these up by the check-out area in what I'd call the "impulse" racks.  Since the palette is still available, I moved it to the top of my swatch pile and got to it.  This one is limited edition, available at both Ulta and Sephora, so if you like it don't hesitate too long!
The case makes for adorable packaging...I'll be keeping the palette inside the case since. (picture of the actual box can be seen in my haul post that I linked to up above)
Above, opened up so no clear lid glare; below are swatches.  Most are just one swipe.  The 2 shades that are hardest to see since they are so close to my skin tone are above my watermark in each picture.
From Sephora's website:
What it is:
A chocolate bar-themed iPhone 5 case filled with a tempting array of shadows, plus a blush and bronzer.
What it does:
Filled with 11 matte and shimmer eye shadows, plus a wearable blush and bronzer, this palette pops out so you can carry it with you for on-the-go touch-ups.
This set contains:
- 0.014 oz Eyeshadow x 9 in Vanilla, Medium Brown, Plum, Pink, Rose Gold, Moss, Silver, Dark Blue, Matte Brown
- 0.032 oz Eyeshadow in Matte Caramel, Peach
- 0.053 oz Blush in Coral
- 0.11 oz Matte Bronzer in Chocolate Soleil
- Detachable chocolate bar design iPhone 5 case
Overall, I'm really happy with the palette.  As usual, the skintone shades took some building up to be able to show in pictures - top left shade (Vanilla) and the 2 larger shades (Peach, Matte Caramel).  Other than that, there was only one shade that took 2-3 swipes to get to show up nicely - it's the middle shade in the far right column (Moss).  All the shades feel nice and creamy.  My favorite color based on swatches is the coppery one in the center (Rose Gold) - so pretty!
Moving on to the cheek colors - a blush and bronzer.  These also swatched easily; I might have gone over the bronzer a couple times, but in real life it wouldn't be worn that concentrated.  The blush, Coral, is a fairly intense pink-coral.  I'll have to be careful with this when applying so I don't turn into "blush face."  I hope that the bronzer isn't too orange or muddy looking on me - it says it's Chocolate Soleil but the shade looks different from my other palette with it...maybe because of the brightness of Coral?

I'm still trying to figure out possible color combinations.  For the moment, nothing has really come to me to be able to use the pink shade, but there's always a neutral eye with a pop of color on the lower lash line.  Hopefully I'll be able to think of something a little more creative when I'm not so tired.  As I mentioned previously, the case is an extra that I could have done without - not an Apple product household.  I'll just end up keeping the palette in it just to make it easier to recognize.

Is the Candy Bar Palette something that catches your eye?  What color combinations would you wear out of it?

Elizabeth Arden Mini Haul + Gift with Purchase

**all items purchased by me /
gift with purchase

If you saw my last Project "Finish This Stuff" update, then you might remember that I had finished my Elizabeth Arden Peel & Reveal mask.  Turns out, I really like the stuff and didn't want to be without.  My finishing of that jar just happened to coincide with the Arden counter at Dillards' latest gift with purchase event.  Perfect.

So I bought the Visible Difference Peel and Reveal Revitalizing Mask (new packaging!)
And the gift with purchase:
Gift with Purchase contents:
Prevage Anti-Aging Eye Serum, .17 fl. oz. tube
Prevage Anti-Aging Daily Serum, .17 fl. oz. pump bottle
Untold Eau de Parfum, .17 fl. oz. bottle
Visible Difference Skin Balancing Exfoliating cleanser, 1.7 fl. oz. tube
Ceramide Ulta Lipstick in Rose 1, full size
Beautiful Color Lash Enhancing Mascara, .1 oz. tube (different formula from my previous mini tube)
I still have part of a tube of the cleanser from the last gift with purchase (back in December).  I don't find anything that particularly wonderful/amazing about it.  To me, it doesn't really meet it's claim of being an exfoliant.  I'll eventually use it but I wouldn't purchase it on its own.  I've used the Ceramide formula of lipsticks before and they feel nice, so I'll definitely be wearing the Rose shade.  I haven't used any of the other gift items.  The Prevage line does have some high claims, but I'm not sure if these 2 little samples would be enough to really see a difference...maybe the eye serum since that area uses such a small amount.  It'll probably be a while before I try either of these since I'm still seeing how my skin does with my current products.

What's your favorite eye cream/serum?  How about exfoliator?

Hard Candy Sky

**all items purchased by me

It's felt so nice and Spring-y around here the last couple of days so I thought I would share a nice Spring-like polish.  Unfortunately, Hard Candy discontinued this line a while ago (maybe early last year?) so this one's harder to come by unless you resort to online shopping.  Hard Candy did have some nice creamy polishes in their older line but I don't believe there's any cremes or cremes with hidden shimmer at all in the new line up.

This is 3 coats of Hard Candy's Sky.  I don't remember if I used base or top coats.  I might not have since I used this as undies for a glitter I was swatching last Fall for a post.
I think I needed the 3rd coat to help even things out, but in the picture my middle finger looks a little...funky.  Maybe the bottle needs a bit of thinner to keep that from happening.  Anyway, this is a gorgeous pastel blue that really does remind me of the color of the sky on some days...just not today's since it was overcast and trying to rain before the temperature drops tonight.  It does have a pretty slightly brighter pearly-blue shimmer that is extremely hidden.
You can see the hidden shimmer in the bottle shot, but on the nails it pretty much hid.  Bummer.  I wonder if I have a layering polish that would enhance the shimmer.  I need to get this back out and wear soon.  I've got all kinds of glitter polishes that could dress it up if I wanted.

Did you pick up Sky when it was still available?  Do you know of any colors from other brands that are similar or a dupe of this?

Sunday Stash Sharing - Icing Polishes, part 2

**all items purchased by me

Today I've got "part 2" of my Icing polishes for Sunday Stash Sharing.  I've been super busy today trying to get all my running around outside of the house done (but literally just remembered I forgot to make one stop).  I've also managed to get a start on my "chores" that must be done before we can travel anywhere.  But now I need to relax, unwind, and blog...then write 4 posts, pack bags for travel, do laundry, etc all tomorrow.  Oh boy.  I shall do my best to get it all done.

Anyway, let's get started with the fine glitters:
Pop A Bottle, Sugar Coated, Urban Affair
Bonus shots of the above and upcoming polishes so you can see their holo goodness!
Next trio, one fine glitter (like the first 3) and 2 chunkier glitters:
Epic Winning, Glitterati, Industrial Chic
 Chunky glitter top coats:
Super Freak, Splatter in Galaxy and 'Tis the Season
 And one lonesome non-glitter polish:
Love Letters (metallic red with gold shimmers)

As I was finding links to any that I've worn or shown in a haul with swatches, I realized that there's one more Icing polish that's hiding in my texture polish drawer.  You can see that one in the link to Galaxy and 'Tis the Season.  If I get more polishes from Icing I'll try to remember to include the neglected textured one (can't get a picture now since it's in the bedroom and the Mister's asleep).  Sugar Coated looks gorgeous over a pinky-coral - I just put that on my toes while typing this.

See any you like?  Any suggestions for new polishes from Icing?  And of course, please let me know if there any that you'd like to see on my nails soon!

Collective Ulta Haul, part 2 (March)

**all items purchased by me

Today's post is a follow-up to my previous Collective Ulta Haul.  This time it's the purchases from March.  Once again, I only purchased items on 3 days, but I've spent many other days in there just playing with makeup and talking makeup/skincare with the employees.  March also included my first microdermabrasion treatment done in the Salon/Spa section.
Lorac TANtalizer mini and Mario Badescu Whitening Mask
~I've used the mask a few times; I was hoping for faster results in it helping my pigmentation...but I'm getting impatient again.  Must.  Learn.  Patience.  Anyway, since it's in a tub, I use a little spatula-type thing from Sally's so I'm not sticking my fingers in it.  It has clay in it which also helps with any active spots.
~I ended up redeeming some Ulta points to get this for $6 (the mini is $12)
~I've been using this off and on, but I can't really decide my feelings on this.  I do like that the bronzer side is matte.  But for some reason I already need to scrape the top layer off the bronzer.  When it is performing as it should I find that it isn't too dark for my skin and it blends easily.  I actually have used the highlight shade more and have not had the problem of needing to scrape it.  Odd.  The highlighter isn't too disco-ball shimmery, it just provides a nice subtle glow when used on the cheekbones.

Moving on, we have a purchase from the 21 Days of Beauty event.  I managed to behave myself quite well if I do say so myself.  I actually only took advantage of one day and that was for the butter LONDON deal (2 for $15).  I did attempt to get the Smashbox deal but it was sold out by the time I got there (which was late afternoon).
Lucy in the Sky and Indigo Punk
~I knew that I wanted to get Lucy in the Sky - pretty champagne neutral with holo sparkles liberally sprinkled, but for my second shade I went back and forth for a while.  I almost got a basic peachy nude creme but ultimately decided on the sparkly goodness of Indigo Punk.
~I swatched these on my nail wheel and both covered nicely in 2 coats; Indigo Punk probably could have used a 3rd coat for complete coverage, especially on a nail.  I'll find out for sure when I put this on my nails.

And for my final March Ulta visit, the Cargo line had gone to 50% off everything!  So I grabbed another kit, paying only $9 for it:
I think I got a "bonus kit" since when I unwrapped everything from the tissue paper, there were 3 TexasLash mascara deluxe sample tubes.  Also included in deluxe samples are Picture Perfect Lip Primer and half-size of The Reverse Lip Liner.  And 2 full sized items in Essential Lip Color in Paris and Swimmables Eye Pencil in Black Sea.
~I actually haven't tried anything from this kit yet, but the lipstick swatched as easily as Dubai from my February purchases.  It also looks just as moist and creamy in the swatch.

I'm decently happy with my purchases during March.  I do wish that the bronzer wasn't so sensitive to build-up; hopefully once I get it all scraped I'll like it better and rather than use the same brush for both blush and bronzer use one dedicated solely to this bronzer.  Picky, picky.  It will be interesting to see how much the lip primer helps lipsticks last, as well as how the liners and mascaras are.  I'm not sure if I'll open one of these mascaras sooner, or stick to using up older unopened mascaras first.

Do you have a favorite polish from butter LONDON?  And let me know if you prefer haul pictures on the lighter blue or black (this post has both)!

Clinique Mini Purchase & Gift with Purchase

**all items purchased by me/
gift with purchase

About a month ago, Clinique's gift with purchase happened at Dillards.  I had actually done a pre-sale so all I had to do was run in and pick it up.  I thought it would be a good time to try some other products from the brand as I've only tried about 3-4 things since I started frequenting the department store counters.

To qualify for the gift with purchase, you had to spend $27 or more.  Well, I was running out of one thing and really wanted to try the other so I ended up well over the minimum.
Cheek Pop in 02 Peach Pop and Comforting Cream Cleanser
~This swatched so easily with no building up necessary.  I just saw a video on these today where she said that these apply best with a synthetic brush, which is what I think the majority of my brushes are.  I'll have to play around and see which one works best.  If I were to get a second color...I'd go for Ginger Pop.
~As for the Cream Cleanser, this is what I've been using to break up my foundation/powder/blush.  I actually showed my empty tube in my last Project "Finish This Stuff" update.  I like using this as a makeup remover and feel it is fairly effective.  But I do go in after with a different cleanser and do a thorough cleansing.  Even though technically I'm double-cleansing, I find that my skin isn't stripped doing this (unless I use a second cleanser my skin doesn't like).

Now for the gift with purchase:
Very cute cosmetics bag with a full-size lipstick and then deluxe samples.  You got to pick your "color palette" which basically meant do you want peach shades or pink and a small option for the foundation.  The rest of the items are standard.
Even Better Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 (4 options; mine is Ivory), .5 fl. oz. tube
A Different Nail Enamel for Sensitive Skins (I picked the "peach" option so mine is Really Rio - I do wish the name was on the bottle)
Different Lipstick (peach option means mine is Sugared Grapefruit)
Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion + (very dry to dry combination skin type), 1 fl. oz. tube
Take the Day Off Makeup Remover for Lids, Lashes & Lips, 1.7 fl. oz. bottle -- I really like this one!
Lash Doubling Mascara in black, .14 oz tube
~this is 6(!) swipes of Sugared Grapefruit
~2 coats of Really Rio, top coat on middle finger only (definitely recommend topcoat as it helps to smooth out the overall appearance)

Clinique's gift with purchase at Dillards is now over, but at Macy's it's starting now.  It has the same Dramatically Different lotion but the rest of the contents are much different - 2 bags, choice of eyeshadow quad, Moisture Surge moisturizer, Repairwear Laser Focus, mascara/lipstick duo (weird thing to make a duo of).  Again, $27 minimum purchase.  I've not decided if I'll take advantage or not...especially since Lancome's gift with purchase (for Dillards) is starting next week.

Are you a fan of anything Clinique?
