Event Final Look

Hi!
**all items purchased by me

So remember last week when I posted about my latest dress that I had to have and trying to finalize makeup, nails and accessories?  Well, today I'm posting what I ended up with.  As I mentioned last week, the dress and jacket are both from JCPenny.  All of my pictures were taken once we got home so my makeup's a bit worn/shiny and as usual, it's hard to see colors of things.
~with the jacket, without the jacket, (previous post's picture from the fitting room)~
~jacket is Faux-Leather Trim Jacket from 9 & Co. Suit Separates
~dress is from Simply Liliana (not listed on JCPenny's site)

I really liked my dress, but over top of tights and a tummy shaper, it tended to twist to one side and stay there.  Maybe without the shaper it would have stayed in place better but I thought it looked better with the shaper.

For hair, I just washed and straightened it then added a touch of moisture through a couple squirts of Suave Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil.  Darn dry winter hair.  Nothing different...as I said one day (I think during the last Arden counter event), my hair is cut into it's style so there's not much you can do with it as far as putting it up or anything.
I did cut out my normal moisturizer since I didn't need it for the SPF factor.  I think I just subbed in some extra serum in my dry areas.  For makeup, I did end up following Shae's tutorial for the most part using the Lorac Pro palette and Jesse's Girl Eye Dust in Penny Arcade.  But on the lower lashline, I did the waterline in black (Maybelline EyeStudio gel liner in Blackest Black- used that for the upper lid liner as well) and under the lashes with a couple of blue shades - Prank and Madness - from the Urban Decay Vice 2 palette.  I followed the bottom of the wing up from the lower line with Prank as well.  Mascara was 2 coats of Rimmel ScandalEyes Retro Glam (received free from Influenster - review coming up very soon).  Eyebrows were done using Maybelline EyeStudio gel liner in Brown.  For foundation I used Tarte Amazonian Clay in Ivory, with spot concealing using Physicians Formula Conceal RX in Fair Light and under eyes using Revlon Age Defying (old packaging) in Light.  I forget what I used to set my foundation and concealers, but clearly it wasn't enough.  I used my one (at that point) Lancome blush in Sheer Amourose with some light countouring using Physicians Formula Baked Pyramid wet/dry matte bronzer (discontinued) in Baked Tan.  I highlighted my cheekbones with the Elizabeth Arden shimmer powder (only available in the Red Hot Croc holiday color collection) in Nude Shimmer.  I used Revlon Kissable Balm Stain in Adore for a lip color (worn off in pictures).

For my nails, I used Orly Bonder, followed by Bridge the Ridge.  Then did 2 coats of Zoya Dovima (matte velvet).  Once that was mostly dry I did free-hand diagonal color blocking with Maybelline Brocade in Beaming Blue. I'm planning on re-creating this combo and taking proper pictures for a future post.
I only wore earrings since I knew that a necklace probably wouldn't look right with the neckline of the dress.  The earrings are from New York & Company (old).  You can't see the other pair, but they are a pair of diamond hoops from I believe Zales.  In addition to my wedding band I ended up putting on my engagement ring, which normally lives in the box, and another fancy ring.  The sapphire ring I bought a few years ago (from Zales) for Valentine's Day.
Towards the end of the night, I made the decision that the shoes I picked have got to be replaced.  Bummer.  Still love the patent leather look, but they seem to have stretched out and no longer stay on well when I walk.  Major struggle, especially going up stairs.  Oh well, they were just an inexpensive pair from Walmart a few years ago.  As far as keeping my legs slightly warmer, I had just picked up a pair of L'eggs Seasonless Tights - lightweight coverage - from CVS the day before.

I thought I looked quite nice, and I got several compliments on my dress so the evening went fairly well (until we got home and he went after how my skin looks again, which I'm trying to forget about that "conversation").  On  a positive note, I get to think about going shoe shopping! Yay!  On a blog note, I clearly need to figure out a better way to take nice pictures of more than just my nails especially since I think that next year I think I want to start incorporating more makeup look posts (yep, starting to brainstorm for next year...it is in just a few weeks!).  And just in case I don't remember in the coming months, I'm writing it down now - I need a red dress for this same event next year.

How do you get ready for parties/events, especially formal ones?
