Elizabeth Arden Red Door Event Haul

**all items purchased by me/received as gift with purchase
/requested sample

I hope everyone has enjoyed the last couple of days!  I took those days off, instead spending the time relaxing with family and the nearly-requisite (at least for me) holiday shopping.  Goodies from Thursday and Friday will have their own post in the coming days - I wasn't paying attention to the time today and ran out of daylight before I got finished taking all my pictures.  But I've been meaning to get this post up for the last week or so.  I was going to include swatches of products today as well, but since the kit was on the larger size (and more than one gift with purchase), there's lots off pictures just for the haul.  I'll have to get a follow-up post with my swatches and initial thoughts up soon.

On to the haul!  The 2 things that I knew I was going to purchase that day are actually not from the Elizabeth Arden line, but I wanted to try them anyway.
Clarisonic Mia Acne brush head and Deep Pore Detoxifying Solution Detoxifying Clay Mask

I ended up deciding to purchase the Red Hot Croc Holiday Color Collection, figuring that (a) it's a good way to try a lot of products for a better price and (b) I could probably get a better over-all look using the palette than the makeup artist did (both that day's and from the previous event I went to where the same palette was used).  The value of this set is supposed to be "over $350."
the bag is quite cute - all the products were tucking inside with cardboard, tissue paper & some bubble wrap

Lots of different products included:
12 eyeshadow and 2 blush palette (with half sponge/blush brush combo)
brush trio in black patent "leather" case - blush brush, very stiff flat eye shadow brush & lip brush
Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara (full size)
Beautiful Color Luminous Lip Gloss in Red Door Red and Diamond
2 eye pencils in Smoky Black and Espresso (I believe full size)
2 lip pencils in Plumrose and Taupe (I believe full size)
All Gone Eye and Lip Makeup Remover (1.7 fl. oz deluxe sample - full size is 3.4 fl. oz.)
Ceramide Ultra Lipsticks in Cassis, Tulip and Coral (full size)
Shimmer Powder in Nude Shimmer - honestly, one of my favorite items (if not most favorite) I've tried from the collection so far - super cute packaging as well (although I won't be using the "puff" for sanitary reasons
mini nail polish in Candy Apple - there is no polish in the regular Arden line

And since I purchased an Arden product, I got 2 different gifts with purchase (maybe the first pair and clutch was just for coming in for the event...details are a little hazy plus it was busy).
Visible Difference Skin Balancing Exfoliating Cleanser deluxe sample (1.7 fl. oz. - full size is 4.2 fl. oz.) &
Beautiful Color Maximum Color Mascara (full size)

I also came home with a black with hot pink lining clutch:

"I Love My Gift" set:
sadly, the zipper on the leopard print bag is busted :-(
deluxe sample of Prevage Anti-Aging Moisture Lotion (with Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30)
Eight Hour Cream Nourishing Lip Balm (with Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 20) - deluxe sample at 0.18 oz. (full size is 0.5 oz)
Ceramide Ultra Lipstick in Peony 20 (full size)
new blister pack of Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum (1 week's worth)
deluxe sample of Flawless Finish Sponge On Cream Makeup in shade Toasty Beige - way too dark for me, but I might try that whole "cream contouring" thing with it
Untold Eau de Parfum sample bottle (with stopper - not spray) and paper scent card

And while I was at Dillards, I visited the Lancome counter for the first time and got matched for foundation (although the shade was completely off - looked like I had played in the self tanner and bronzer).  I got re-matched a couple days later by a different woman...much better (I look like me):
Teint Idole 24 hr foundation "matched" to 340 Bisque - ummm no.  Again, cream/liquid contouring possibility.  Rematched a couple days later to 220 Buff C
~still might be a tad too dark?? the other shade suggested was 210 Buff N~

As you can see, I ended up with quite the haul that day (10% off on purchases as well).  Since June I have been spending quite a lot of time at Dillards, as well as money....but I have gone in and out a few times without purchasing anything...I think.  I keep going hoping that between all the counters there and the masses of products/brands at Ulta I should be able to get my skin under control for breaking out (that has lessened), making old marks disappear, and now the unfortunate dryness.  I haven't been able to find a balance between the oil stage and dry stage.  So I'll keep going back looking for solutions.

Do you get sucked in by the holiday kits and/or gifts with purchase available from the various department store counters?  Do you have a favorite product from the Lancome brand?  I'm looking to start exploring the brand.

Spotted, Hauled...a few, & Swatched - L'Oreal Gold Dust Polishes

**all items purchased by me

Time for a new Spotted, Hauled & Swatched post!  Today's topic is the new L'Oreal Gold Dust polishes.  These pretties are textured, and the collection includes some of the most interesting textured polishes that I've seen to-date.  I've spotted the collection at both Bed, Bath & Beyond as well as Giant Eagle...I haven't been to Rite Aid or CVS recently and my brain is a little fuzzy on if I saw them at Walgreens yet.  The collection is a little odd-sized at 9 polishes - usually collections come out in even numbers.  Oh, well.  More to look at and be tempted by.

As usual, let's get started with the display.  The one on the left is the picked-over one from Bed, Bath & Beyond; the one on the right is the full one that I saw at Giant Eagle.
~at BB&B, they were $5.49 each; Giant Eagle was $6.99 (which will probably be similar to what the drugstores will charge if/when they get this collection)~

The 5 (yes, 5) I did not get - and why I passed:
Rough Around the Edge - felt too close to Zoya Yara PixieDust
The Reign of Studs - felt too close to OPI Can't Let Go Liquid Sand
Pop the Bubbles - felt too close to Orly Aqua Pixel
Diamond in the Rough - felt too close to Orly Plum Pixel
The Statement Piece - don't really wear gold that often

I originally found these at Bed, Bath & Beyond and purchased from there with a $5 off $15 purchase coupon.  Now let's see which 4 I did come home with:
Too Dimensional?, Hidden Gems, I Like it Chunky, Sexy in Sequins

Label & Bottle shots (sorry - my pink sweatshirt keeps reflecting on the bottles)

And the must see part - the swatches!!
Too Dimenstional?, Hidden Gems, I Like It Chunky, Sexy in Sequins
~intentionally blurred to show the sparkles off~
Too Dimensional? and I Like It Chunky are 2 coats each
Hidden Gems and Sexy in Sequins are one coat each

I've already had one on my nails (Too Dimensional?) and loved the way it looked and felt.  Even though it's textured, it's not too rough - kind of similar to the Zoya PixieDust feel.  I had it on for a couple of days before it came off when washing my hair (but that kills all my manis).

Now, I'm off to go make my dessert for tomorrow's Thanksgiving dinner, dry and straighten my hair, and do my nails.  If you're celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow, enjoy your meal(s)!  And if you're braving the Thanksgiving Day/Black Friday shopping madness, good luck in your searches!  And of course, try to enjoy your days, celebrations or no!

Have you spotted the L'Oreal Gold Dust collection yet?  Any catch your eye as "must-buy"?  Let me know!!

Urban Affair

**all items purchased by me

Time for a new letter in the ABC polish challenge.  I'm slowly getting to the end of these posts - just a handful left and then the wrap-up!  Yay.  So what letter is next?  Why, it's
I did cheat a little and just popped a coat of Icing Urban Affair over top of the previous color - OPI The World Is Not Enough.  I knew that Urban Affair needed undies, or else it would take quite a few coats to build up and I just did not want to mess with the nightmare of that removal.
Urban Affair actually reminds me a little bit of my bottle of Sephora by OPI polish in If You've Got It, Haunt It, although with a much less runny formula.  Urban Affair actually went on pretty easily.  At this point, I don't remember if it dried smoothly or not...but on my nail wheel, it's got a bit of a fine, gritty feel.  I believe I did add topcoat at some point, whether or not it was before or after picture time, though, is not clear.
Urban Affair has lots of gunmetal particles to it, along with a good bit of holo glitters added to the mix with a sprinkling of matte black glitter.  I had this on about a week before Halloween, so my nails were feeling appropriately colored.
Isn't it pretty in the natural daylight?

I just can't get enough of any glitter polish that looks like it has holo sparkles in it!  Just about every one I've come across has come home with me...although I am trying to be a teeny-tiny bit better about buying every polish I stumble across.  Unfortunately, I don't believe this one is available anymore (especially since Icing is transitioning to the rectangular bottles, which while they take up less space in the drawer/nest together better, I don't care for the shape - it feels more unstable when using).

Given that Thanksgiving is this week here in the U.S., what are you planning on wearing on your nails?  Simple, glitter, stamping/other art?  I haven't much thought about mine yet.

Claire's and Icing Collective Haul - Splatters & Feathers!

**all items purchased by me

I made a couple different hauls at Claire's this past summer so I figured I should finally share those purchases.  And I've also got some things that I've purchased from Icing more recently (a couple things were just this past weekend), so I figured I would get a bit more caught up and put it all in one post.  While I was at the mall over the weekend, I went into both Claire's and Icing to see if these polishes were still available and I did see them all  so you might be able to get them fairly easily if you want.

Let's get started by travelling back in time to June.  Around that time I had heard Claire's had a black & white glitter polish that I wanted and found some other things as well:
2 Nail Art Kits that contain 3 image plates each (plus white polish, scraper & stamper) $10 each
Splatter polish in Splatter Paint and brown bow headband (clearance)
~I believe that beauty products were buy one get one half off (that seems to be a normal sale)~
~swatch of Splatter Paint below~
~top picture is the left kit (black stamper); bottom picture is the right kit (pink stamper)

Around the end of July, I visited Claire's again and found some new glitters:
~the Splatter line had been expanded and there were also new Feather polishes~
Feather polish in Under My Wing (1 coat swatch) and Splatter polishes in Paparazzi and Flashing Lights
Splatter Paint, Paparazzi, Flashing Lights
~1 coat Splatter Paint - 2 coats (plus a little fishing/placing) Paparazzi
1 coat (plus a little fishing/placing) Flashing Lights~

In September, I made a trip into Icing and saw a couple really pretty polishes that were calling my name:
Splatter polish in Galaxy and Feather polish in Blue Lagoon
~Galaxy is bright shiny royal blue and matte white hex glitters in multiple sizes
~Blue Lagoon has 2 shades of blue bar glitters and tiny holo dust
~swatches down below~

Let's finish up with what I purchased over the weekend at Icing:
Icing Exfoliating Lip Scrub in Minty Fresh ($6.50 - I got half off) - there were 2 or 3 other scents
Splatter polish in 'Tis the Season ($7.50)
~the person working said both of these products had just arrived earlier last week~
~beauty products were buy one, get one 50% off
Blue Lagoon, Galaxy, Sand Castle (Quick Sand/textured polish), 'Tis the Season
~Blue Lagoon, Galaxy and 'Tis the Season are all approximately 2 coats
~Sand Castle is one coat (hauled in this August post)

If you're planning on hitting up Claire's and/or Icing for Black Friday, I hope this helps you with some ideas of what polishes that may be there look like.  As for me, I really need to dig through some online ads to see if there's anything really worth staying up all night and/or not sleeping at all for.  Since I buy things all year (as you can tell by my frequent haul posts), it makes it hard to find things that really spark my interest around the holiday season.

What are you planning on trying to purchase Black Friday through Cyber Monday?  Anything good you'd like to share?

Miscellaneous Monday - DIY Snowman Wearing a Mickey Ear Hat

**all items purchased by me
Time for Miscellaneous Monday!  Today I've got a quick (other than all the drying time) and fairly easy craft to make that's inspired by the magical Mouse - Mickey.  I've had him done for a while but didn't want to post him before we had had any snow...well, now we've had snow a few days and are currently under a winter storm warning (the alert on my phone is saying anywhere from 8-10 inches over the next several days).  Looks like it's possible we're going to have a white Thanksgiving.  This should be fun.
 You don't need much:

  • wooden heart (optional to paint white first)
  • plastic ring (for a little stability since the pom-pom can sit down in it a bit)
  • white pom-poms in 3 sizes (1 large, 1 medium, 2 small) - actual size you use depends on how big you want him
  • black Scribbles paint
  • Glitter Snow (Aleene's) or True Snow
  • tacky glue
from the side view, you can see he's tilting back a bit - the better to look up to you
  1. Glue largest 2 pop-poms together.  Also glue center plastic loop on heart and glue together
  2. Glue snowman down, centering in the loop, building up glue around the base if needed for more stability.  Let dry
  3. Glue 2 small pop-poms to top like a Mickey ear hat and let dry
  4. Apply glitter snow (or true snow) and let dry thoroughly.  I made mine uneven & mounded up looking
  5. Using the black Scribbles, start covering the "ear" pom-poms and top of snowman head to better resemble Mickey ear hat (this takes quite a bit of time to get good solid coverage; works better in more than one sitting); let dry thoroughly.
  6. Using the black Scribbles, paint on eyes, nose and mouth and let dry

Even though the waiting stages made the project take longer, it's still a quite easy project to do.  I'm actually thinking about making more (maybe even adding a bow to the "ear hat" for Minnie) to go with some Winter/Christmas decorations I have.  Click here for my previous pom-pom snowman creations.  You can also click here to see Snowman Mickey mini ornaments.

Do you like to use pom-poms for craft projects?  Maybe you prefer a different medium?

Sunday Stash Sharing - Nicole by OPI Kardashian Kolors

**all items purchased by me

Time for the 3rd installation of the Nicole by OPI category of Sunday Stash Sharing posts.  Despite being not that into following the Kardashian adventures, I have managed to pick up quite a few polishes from their various collaborations with N.OPI.  No judgement, please - the colors all just caught my eye as pretty.  As usual, if I've worn and posted a mani using any of these, then I've provided links to the post.

First pair is from the Holiday 2011 "Kardashian Kolors" collection:
Follow Me On Glitter and Disco Dolls

Let's move on to the next pair, shall we?  These 2 are from the Spring 2012 CVS Exclusives:
One Big Happy Fame-ily and Smile for the Glam-era

And this group of 4 also came out around Spring 2012 under the Wel-Kim To My World! collection (I purchased these in duo-packs from TJ Maxx):
Here Kim's the Sun, Kim Konfidential, Lights, Kim-era, Action! and Up & Kim-ing Pink

Let's finish up with another holiday release - 2012 this time:
A Gold Winter's Night and All is Glam, All is Bright

I thought I had worn more of these polishes, but I guess not.  Maybe some of them got pulled out as possibilities for the ABC challenge, but wasn't feeling them those particular days so they went right back into the drawer.  Next week, I'll have one more post for the Nicole by OPI brand.  Any requests for which brand I move on to after that?

Do you see any that you have?  Or maybe one (or more) reminds you of another polish?  And of course, do let me know if you'd like to see any of these on my nails soon!

Collective Beauty, Sweater & Accessory Hauls!

**all items purchased by me

Ready for some random mini shopping trips all thrown into one?  I've got quite a few stores where I only bought one, maybe 2 things, and for the most part they are from stores in the mall (although Walgreens did sneak into this post).  I combined a lot of mini shopping trips into one post, so there's a lot of pictures to load (sorry).

So since Walgreens is a frequent site on the blog, let's start there.  There's 4 different visits that spread across quite a time span (August until late October).
Visit 1, I bought the Wet 'n Wild Shimmer Take on the Day eye shadow primer (might be l.e.?)
Visit 2, I bought a couple Sinful Colors polishes - Song of Summer #1199 and Coffee #975 (again, I believe l.e.)

Visit 3 (went for bodywash that the Mister forgot to tell me he was out of), I picked up my first Wet 'n Wild Fergie line lipstick in A041 Ferguson Crest Cabernet

And finally, after reading Emily Noel/Beauty Broadcast's review on the e.l.f. Beauty Book from Walgreens, I got it (originally was going to pass, but after seeing the review, realized it was actually pretty good and different from all the older ones I have)  This was actually the last one at that particular Walgreens.

Now let's see what I've found during a couple of different trips to the craft store.  I'm pretty sure I shared most of the polishes on Instagram, but figured I'd go ahead and repost it here.
L.A. Girl Splatter polish in Spatter and
L.A. Girl Feather Frenzy polishes in Raven (black/white/silver) and Peacock (blue/white) bar glitters

These 2 items I found more recently and didn't get posted on Instagram:
L.A. Girl Feather Frenzy polish in Canaray (white & super shiny gold) bar glitters
~isn't the embellishment of the headband cute?? this is also the color that went best with my hair color~

And these last few items are from more recent trips to the mall.  I needed to go to the mall to get some new shirts for the Mister from Express so of course, I had to check out the jewelry.  I had seen this pair of earrings during a previous visit, but passed at that point.
minty green pyramid stud-style with crystal accents
I ended up paying $5.54 after the mailer coupon

I also made a little trip into Forever 21 that day and found a few things:
Nail Decorations in Gold/Silver ($3.80 - there were other designs),
Sand Lacquer in Burnished Gold, glitter polish in Red/Silver

When I was at the mall last Saturday (the bulk of that will be in an upcoming post since I attended a beauty event at the Elizabeth Arden counter), I wondered into the Limited and found a pair of earrings:
brown rosette shaped studs with some pink-champagne crystals surrounding a center clear crystal
I ended up paying $4.89 plus tax (30% off clearance)

On the same day as when I bought the earrings from the Limited, I also found a couple of cute warm sweaters at Forever 21, but since I am a complete fail at taking decent pictures of clothing...I didn't - I let the sites do the work (links are just for convenience).

And a couple days ago at the Limited, I spied a 40% off sweaters sign for that day and I found one that fit nicely.

At least I can say that some of these items' purchases date back to August, right?  Not all in one month, or even 2.  The most expensive things were the 3 sweaters that I purchased - but it is sweater weather where I in "technically it's Fall, but temperatures will only be in the 30s during the day."

Are you living in warm sweaters in your area?  Or are you in, perhaps, a warmer climate?  Have any good "mall hauls" lately?
