I thought today would be a good day to share what all I've purchased from Ulta since a location opened with 15 minutes of where I live back in August. I've managed to go 3 separate times and each time I've left with one (or more) items. This is now dangerous (money-wise) but my skin hasn't been happier than it currently is in quite a while...more on that in a bit.
So let's see what I purchased on my first visit, which was about a week after it opened (I was out of town on the actual opening day):
Parallel Worlds NYX Makeup Collection and essence nail art stampy set
Included in the NYX set was a look book and a cute little sheer bag filled with NYX products
~these are my first NYX products; buying them in this kit was cheaper overall than buying individually~
Swatches: (top) Jumbo Eye Pencil in 630 Cashmere (swatch in the circle)
(left) Soft Matte lip cream in Istanbul
(right top) Smokey eye shadow palette
(bottom right) Blush in PB25 Pinched
~also included in the kit: Le Frou Frou Volume & Length mascara and Studio Liquid Liner~
~9 designs on plate, plus a metal scraper (won't use) and little stamper~
On my second visit around 3 weeks later, I went looking for an Orly polish that Sally's was already sold out of, and then found a couple more items:
Ulta nail polish in Material Girl (first one of this brand!) and Orly Digital Glitter
And then I think I spent the next half hour or more talking to one cosmetologist(?) that works there and she decided that I was allergic to sunscreen and "needed" to try Philosophy Purity cleanser (I don't want to since I've read mixed stories about it). I didn't necessarily agree with her views so after she finally moved on (after recommending trying Juice Beauty, Murad, or Peter Thomas Roth kits) I started talking to a different guy who seemed to know more about acne causation and treatment (and did not recommend to stop using SPF). He ended up recommending this kit since I'm trying to take care of both active breakouts and left-over redness/pigmentation:
Peter Thomas Roth Blemish Buster Kit ($35)
~included are: Beta Hydroxy Acid 2% Acne Wash, Blemish Buffing Beads, AHA/BHA Acne Clearing Gel, Acne Spot and Area Treatment, and Max Anti-Shine Mattifying Gel~
And finally, today I went back since in the Ulta catalog one of the products I've been wanting to try was on sale this month for half off:
Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer (on sale for $15!)
As you can see, I've spent quite a bit of both time and money there in the last month. Even when I know what I want, I like to go around and play with things (namely powder foundations since I'd love to have something I can quickly throw on rather than work with liquid all the time). It's also fun to talk to the workers and see what they recommend you try. Of course, the artist from today kind of made me want to buy the new Pretty Rebel palette from Too Faced (so pretty!! and the shadows look sooo nice!!!) I wonder how long that will be available.... I'd say I'm addicted to going to Ulta.
Have you gotten anything from Ulta lately? Do you get in and get out quickly or do you wonder and play for an hour or more like me? Any experience with the things I bought and shared? Have you tried the Pretty Rebel palette?
