Review - Burt's Bees Intense Hydration Cream Cleanser

**all items purchased by me

It's been quite a while since I've reviewed any skincare item so I thought today I would - especially since last night I made my final decision on if I like it or not.

I purchased the Burt's Bees Intense Hydration Cream Cleanser with Clary Sage way back in January and have been using it off and on ever since then with mixed feelings.  I bought this hydrating cleanser because I had read that a cause of skin breaking out could be from the skin actually being too dry, and at the start of the year my skin was dry (underneath the sheen of oil).
The tube claims:
  • intensely hydrates dry skin
  • removes dirt, oil and make-up
  • with probiotic technology
Firstly, in my opinion this cleanser does not work with the Clarisonic.  I decided that rather quickly.  Up until this month (May), I've been using this on nights I did not use the Clarisonic.  But even then I wasn't all that thrilled with it.  I've now got this tube parked in my shower to use when I am not wearing makeup, so this is currently getting more use when I take my shower in the middle afternoon - and then at night I just freshen up with a toner.

Next, do I think it "intensely hydrates?"  No.  I do not.  When I use this, my skin feels immediately too tight, almost itchy tight, for about 10 minutes.  I have to immediately follow this with either moisturizer or Argan oil.

The next claim is to remove dirt, oil and make-up.  That's a important claim for me since I wear so much makeup whenever I leave the house (beauty blogger, here).  I think it does help wash away oil (but doesn't help control it for later in the day).  As far as make-up, I have to say this does not work that well.  I used this yesterday in the shower when I had on make-up (no eyeliner or mascara though) and noticed after my shower that I still had smeared concealer on my inner corners.  And then that concealer was harder to get off than normal.

As far as the probiotic technology, I have no idea what that means.

To sum up, this does not hydrate - it over dries on me - and it does not remove all makeup.  For now, it will continue to live in my shower, not getting used often.  It will stay there until either I'm sick of feeling over-dried or the Mister needs a new cleanser, whichever comes first.  While I don't hate this cleanser, I certainly don't love it.

I'm still on the hunt for my "perfect" night-time cleanser for nights I'm not using my Clarisonic.  Those nights I'm using a cleanser from Neutrogena.  Through all my cleanser tries, I've discovered that cream products don't work well for me, or I haven't found one that does.  And sometimes even Cetaphil cleanser is drying.  So basically, if a product says it won't overdry skin, it most likely will dry mine out.  Talk about picky skin, huh?

What's your favorite cleanser?  I'm open to suggestions.

Spotted, Hauled & Swatched - Milani Naturally Chic Shadow Eyez Collection

**all items purchased by me

I decided to share a little makeup haul (it's actually 2 trips) today, and it's featuring the new limited edition, Walgreens exclusive Milani Naturally Chic Shadow Eyez collection.  I bought these a couple weeks ago - they came out either in April or May.  I bought these in 2 parts - 4 in one day, 1 a few days later (after seeing swatches of it)...but there is one I did not get.  I didn't get the black since I do have a black from L.A. Colors...that I still need to test.  Depending on how I feel about the L.A. Colors one, I may or may not go back to Walgreens and try to get the black shade.  I really need to get on that.  Anyway, let's see the new Shadow Eyez!

~~EDIT:  I ended up purchasing the black shade a week or so later.  It's in this haul (but no swatch).
You know I can't resist a display picture.

Let's see the first 4 I purchased:
08 Espresso Line, 09 Cafe Au Lait, 10 Almond Cream, 11 Sand Dunes
~Sand Dunes is a foil/shimmer; the rest are matte

Close-ups in the package:

And the other one I purchased a few days later from a different Walgreens:
12 Golden Brown
~is a foil/shimmer

And now for their swatches.  All but Sand Dunes have 1 swipe - Sand Dunes is 2 swipes:
Espresso Line, Cafe Au Lait, Almond Cream, Sand Dunes, Golden Bronze

I have reviewed part of the core line before, so click here if you'd like to see my thoughts on them.  The only thing that's changed since that post was how many of the core shades I have - I have all but the white.  But to sum up my prior post, I love these - they work wonderfully as eyeshadow bases (I do have a bit of creasing if I wear them alone...not nearly as bad as the Maybelline Color Tattoos) and I'm also in love with the teal/turquoise one as a pop of color on the lower lash line.  I wish there was more in the core line, but I'm thrilled to have been able to get my hands on these limited edition shades.

During these 2 Walgreens trips, I also picked up these 2 things on clearance (1 from each store):
Sally Hansen Gem Crush in 06 Razzle Dazzler (this already showed up in a Sunday Stash Sharing)
CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless 230 Corrector - this is in my backup container

Did you get anything from the Naturally Chic collection?  Do you like Milani's Shadow Eyez line?  Do you have a preference for these or Maybelline's Color Tattoos?

New Dress for Me!

**all items purchased by me

I just have time to do a very, very quick post today since I've got to get in bed early (for me) so I need to start winding down.  If the Mister hadn't started changing network settings so late, I might have had time for a different post.

Anyway, I bought myself a new dress today!  I haven't found one I liked and that fit well in over a year.  I found this one at Target for $25.  I think that's a pretty awesome deal.
Mossimo® Women's V-neck Striped Knit Dress - Assorted Colors

It's from Mossimo and is called Women's V-neck Striped Knit Dress.  It feels like you're wearing a super soft t-shirt.  I got it in the "Blue Baritone," a.k.a. teal.  The store also had it in "Hot Lips Red" (super bright orange-red) but I didn't really see myself wearing that color.  I'm seeing right now that Target's website also has it in black, but I didn't see that in the store.  If I had (or if I go to a different Target) I would consider getting the black.

I was looking at other high-low dresses, but when I would hold them up to me, the dress would be puddled on the floor.  This one, on the other hand, hits a couple inches above the ankle for the longest section (I'm 5'3") so this one is just right.

I also saw a couple of high-low skirts that caught my eye as well, and I might have to explore the Mossimo brand some more.  But some other day.  For someone who is supposed to be on a "restricted buy," I've bought way too much this month - between clothes, shoes, polish, makeup and accessories.  Oops.

I think I'm going to wear this tomorrow since it's back to feeling like it's Summer again - closing in on 90 for the high.  I can see this as being a quick go-to this summer, and I think the color could also work into the Fall - just add a jacket/cardigan.

What's your favorite brand of super-comfy affordable dresses?

Collective Sally's Beauty Supply Haul!

**all items purchased by me

While I was going through pictures trying to decide what to post for today, I came across a few different trips (3) to multiple Sally's Beauty Supply stores where I had bought more polishes (are you surprised?).  All but one polish was on clearance, and the other item I bought was on sale (but not clearance).   Of course, all of the China Glaze polishes gave me trouble when it was time to take their pictures, so I've done my best.
Nail wheels (on monthly sale) and Orly Sparkling Garbage from the new Mash Up collection
China Glaze Bling it On and Grafitti Glitter
~from the Glitz Bitz 'n Pieces collection from early 2013

I had managed to time this first trip within the first 5 days of the month and the cashier told me that sales for the prior month get honored for the first 5 (I think that was the number) days of the next month, so since last month's the sale was buy any 2 polishes, get 1 free, I got one of the China Glaze polishes free!

Different Sally's, different day:

Orly High on Hope, China Glaze Mosaic Madness and Scattered & Tattered

~High on Hope is from the Hope and Freedom Spring 2013 collection
~Mosaic Madness and Scattered & Tattered are also from the Glitz collection

I missed the same deal as up above...

And then on a 3rd trip (to yet a different Sally's), I got this one:
China Glaze Glitz 'n Pieces
~also from the Glitz collection

When the China Glaze collection originally came out, I was not interested in it at all, especially for full price.  Now a few months later, and at 1/2 price, I've changed my mind and purchased them...and I've actually already worn one of them.  I'm just trying to think of different combinations to wear them all with.  I have nearly the full set (I'm just missing Razzle Me, Dazzle Me) so since I'm a crazy polish collector, if I see it at the beauty supply I might get it.

The only thing that could have made all these clearance polishes a better deal was if Sally's had been running a 1/2 off clearance sale, but they weren't.

Did you get any glitters from the Glitz Bitz 'n Pieces collection?  What would you pair these with?

Give Me Liberty!...PixieDust, that is.

**all items purchased by me

Hope everyone enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend (if you're in the U.S., of course - otherwise, hope you enjoyed your weekend)!  Today might have been the unofficial start of summer, but it sure didn't feel like it only got into the mid-60's so I've been in my sweatshirt and socks instead of a tee and sandals.  And we currently have the furnace running.  How messed up is that for the end of May?!

Anyway, I thought I'd share what I wore on my nails for the actual Memorial Day.  Given as how the holiday is in remembrance of those who fought for our basic freedoms and liberties, I thought I'd wear an appropriately named polish - Liberty from Zoya.  I also kept it basic since we didn't have any plans.

I have on a base of both Seche Recondition and Pro FX Fiberized Ridge Filler.  On Sunday I was wearing the treatment (Recondition) since I had just removed a patch from my thumb, so I figured I might as well put my base coat on over that since I wanted to wear Liberty and had read that it's a bit of a stainer.

So this is 2 coats of Zoya Liberty over my combination base coat.  No top coat.  As of writing this post, I still have Liberty on so I can't say whether the base coat combination has prevented staining or not.  I'm hoping for the best.
Fairly color accurate
My fingers look funny colored, but it really shows off the bright blue shimmer
I was rearranging my fingers, but I like the way the shot shows of the glowing blue shimmers
Zoya Liberty is from the Summer release of PixieDust polishes.  Liberty is a pretty medium-dark blue with brighter blue shimmer sprinkled throughout that makes it look like it's glowing depending on the light.  Either I put on extra-thick coats or Liberty is a bit smoother to the feel than the PixieDusts that came out in the original release.  It's still textured, it's just smoother.  I hope all that made sense.  I did feel that Liberty dried slower than the last textured polish I wore, which was from OPI; but again, that could be because I might have used thicker-than-usual coats.

Description of Zoya Nail Polish in Liberty

Zoya Nail Polish in Liberty can be best described as a blue sugary sparkle in the exclusive Zoya PixieDust Textured, Matte, Sparkle formula.

Color Family Blue

Color Finish PixieDust

Color Intensity 5 ( 1=Sheer - 5=Opaque )

Color Tone Cool, Neutral

IMPORTANT PixieDust Application:

Do not use a base coat or top coat.
Apply 1-3 (for full coverage) thin coats of polish.
Allow product to dry completely in between layers.
What did you have on your nails for the weekend?  Did you keep it simple or dress it up?

Sunday Stash Sharing - Sally Hansen Polishes

**all items purchased by me

Time already for another Sunday Stash Sharing!  I decided to do another Sally Hansen post, but this time it's with formulas that I only have a few of.  I have 4 different lines that I have 3 or less of, so let's get right to it!

Hard As Nails - Hard As Wraps:
Orchid Frost...
The whole line is discontinued.  I wore this polish a lot! (the bottle's more than 1/2 way gone)  This was purchased probably 4 years or so ago; before I really got into doing my nails all kinds of different colors this was all I wore for a whole summer.  Honestly, I'm not sure how good the polish is anymore...this might be one that should be let go soon.

On to Hard as Nails (plain version):
Sheer Vanilla and Warm Copper...
the line is still in production, but I believe these particular colors are discontinued

And for Nailgrowth Miracle:
260 Fearless Fog and Perfect Peach (I circled the pink shimmer)...
Fearless Fog is still listed on Sally Hansen's site, but Perfect Peach is not.
Perfect Peach is possibly a limited edition color since there is no number on the cap with the name.

And finally, Maximum Growth:
25 Copper Glamour, 53 Real Royal, 36 Baby Doll
Copper Glamour and Real Royal are both listed on Sally Hansen's site, but Baby Doll is not

Some of the Nailgrowth/Maximum Growth I purchased using coupons that could only be redeemed on those particular lines.

I still have a few more sub-lines for Sally Hansen polishes, so unless I get the urge to do a different brand, next week will be more Sally Hansen polishes - I just have to decide which line (Complete Salon Manicure, Xtreme, Insta-Dri, Diamond Strength...)

As always, let me know if you'd like to see any of these on the nails soon!  Any preference of which line goes up next?

OPI What Wizardry is This?

**all items purchased by me

I was sitting here trying to think of what I wanted to post today when I realized I haven't shared any polish posts this week.  Oops.  So I thought I would share a Liquid Sand today, especially since I can't seem to get enough of the textured finish.

What Wizardry is This? is from OPI's Oz collection that came out a little while ago.  I believe this is 2 coats, probably over either a base coat or a treatment but I don't remember for sure.  Of course, no top coat.  I really need to get better at getting polish posts up closer to when I've worn them...  Anyway, on to the pictures:

Look at the different colored sparkles!! (maybe tiny holo glitter?)
OPI What Wizardry is This? is one of the shades of Liquid Sand polishes that have been produced this year.  This one was one of the first that came out that did not include the larger chunks of glitter in it, so the finish, while still textured, was smoother than most of the ones from the Mariah Carey collection.

The base color is a muddy brown that has bronze-gold shimmer throughout...and I think some holographic shimmer.  I think this color will be perfect for the Fall season, but I don't really follow seasonal colors.  I saw this used as a base for the gold glitter (When Monkeys Fly!) that came out with the Oz collection, so I might have to try something inspired by that (since I did not purchase that glitter due to curling issues) at some point.  I've also had a PixieDust polish layered over this to make my own shade.  I should also try this with topcoat at some point to see what that does to the sparkles.

If you like the textured polishes, what's your favorite brand (since they all have their own twist)?

Accessory Haul - Old Navy & Burlington!

**all items purchased by me

I thought today I would share a quick little haul of accessories I got a week or so ago.  Just what I "need," right?  More accessories.  At least I got things in color families I don't have a lot of...

I found some accessories at Burlington Coat Factory when I went in there looking for cute flow-y skirts that would hit around the knee area.  I did find a skirt (not flow-y, though - pencil style) and a couple pairs of capri pants.  And I found a couple cute accessory sets.
I hardly have anything in a peachy/coral-y tone and I thought this set could look cute with several colors; the price was pretty good.
I also really liked the purple set and I figured this would go with multiple shades of purple, or even with neutral colors.  The price on this set was pretty good, too.  Both sets were on clearance.

Did you know that Old Navy now sells accessories?  I didn't before I walked in there and wondered around for a while.  The price wasn't too bad - higher than Forever 21's prices...I'd say comparable to Target.  I managed to restrain myself to just one thing (for now).  Plus I was already getting a cute sweater (clearance) and pair of colored "skinny" jeans in a pretty blue (which rang up on an even better sale than the tag was priced).
I thought these were really cute with the blue and green combined.  Plus they match the belt that came with a new pair of capri pants I bought before that.

Not a crazy sized haul this time, right?  That's for another day, another store.  I really need to ground myself and not go at all - except for groceries.  This is why I don't let myself go to the mall, even though I really do need to purchase a new pair of sneakers (mine are worn out) as well as a new brush head for my Clarisonic.  There's just so much spending temptation there!!  Maybe if I go on a day I'm tired and not in the mood for shopping maybe that will work?  Get in and get out with just what I need.

What color combos can you think of to wear my new necklace/earring sets with?  How do you control your urge to shop?

Colors of the Rainbow Tag - Polish Edition...No Limited Editions

**all items purchased by me

I thought that I would do another tag today so I picked the Colors of the Rainbow tag and made it a polish edition.  Apparently I felt like challenging myself since I wanted to avoid choosing limited edition and discontinued polishes, which was extremely difficult.  Looking through my stash, I've realized that a large portion are either "old" or from various special collections.  I believe that all the polishes I picked are currently available.

Since it's all the colors in the rainbow (plus a couple), there's quite a few pictures.

Red - Essie Scarlett O'Hara
Scarlett O'Hara is on my tips - China Glaze Immortal is the base color

Orange - Wet 'n Wild
I thought I had done and shared a mani with this one, but I can't find it... which means I didn't use my own picture for this post

Yellow - Wet 'n Wild The Wonder Yellows

Green - Zoya Yara
olive/army green

Blue - Sinful Colors Midnight Blue

Indigo - Zoya Indigo
I needed help on figuring out what color indigo is, so I just used a polish named Indigo.  When I think of indigo, I tend to think of something a bit lighter than this...  This picture is showing Northern Lights topcoat over Zoya Indigo

Violet - Sinful Colors Verbena
Verbena is on my tips - Essie Nice is Nice is the base color

Pink - Sinful Colors Beautiful Girl

Multi - Claire's Candy Shop

Maybe I should do this tag again, but use only limited edition colors.  I think I have limited edition colors in just about every color (especially if I count discontinued colors as limited edition).  I'm also playing around with the idea of doing tag posts once a week (using YouTube as a source for tag topics) if at all possible.  Any tag suggestions for me to tackle?

What polishes are your favorites for the colors of the rainbow?

Miscellaneous Monday - Jewelry Storage (with a little review)

**all items purchased by me

It's Monday again, so that means it's Miscellaneous Monday time!  I thought that today, rather than posting about yet more accessories I've made, I thought I'd show what I got a few weeks ago to store a good portion of it all.  For a while, I thought about turning a large unused picture frame into a way to hang earrings...but then I have the problem of no free wall space in the bedroom so when I saw this unit, the light went off.
Recollections Rolling Cart with 10 Drawers
Purchased from Michael's craft store while it was on sale - I think around $35
(but I don't have the receipt anymore)
~my camera is currently charging so I don't have a picture of it out of the box, but it looks just like the picture~

This was really easy to put together - you just needed a screwdriver for the little knobs.  The other needed tool is included.  I did not put the wheels on mine, since I knew that once I placed it I most likely would not be moving it around (turns out, if I had put the wheels on, it would have been too tall for where I've got it standing).

As far as what I'm using inside each drawer for organization...a little bit of everything.  This is where creativity came to play.  If it had divided compartments and would fit in the drawer, it was fair game to use.  I also used various sizes of cardboard jewelry boxes for sets.

For the most part, I have a different color of accessory in each drawer.  Some drawers still have room left in the organizer or space in the drawer for more organizers when needed; others are full (apparently I have a lot of blue earrings and necklaces - I did not realize that).

I only have 2 issues.  One being I still have to use my dresser drawer, dresser top, the wall (those 3 areas just aren't as crowded now) and a couple other drawers in the built-in for jewelry.  I also have a separate stack of drawers that I bought a few years ago on top of the unit.  To fit everything, I would need a second unit (which I have no room for).  The second is that the drawers aren't quite long enough to fit the divided jewelry trays.  I ended up using one of my divided jewelry trays by cutting a row off to get it too fit.

I know of a few people who would say I clearly have way too much jewelry.  But I like my accessories.  And I like to make accessories.  At least now that everything is organized by color family, I'm able to see most of what I have and more of my collection is getting used, whereas before I kept wearing the same few things.

Organizing keeps me happily occupied, and if by organizing over and over I'm able to see more and more of my collection, then all the better.  I'll get more use out of everything.

Do you have a large accessory collection?  What's your organization secret?  Do you want to see inside the drawers?  If you do, let me know!

Sunday Stash Sharing - Sally Hansen Gem Crush Polishes

**all items purchased by me

It's time for another Sunday Stash Sharing!  I can't believe how quickly the week has gone by - I suppose it's because I've been extra busy with outside work, plus various other running-around things that needed to be done.  I've also been getting sidetracked very easily lately...   Anyway, on to the polish!  I thought today would be a good day to show my Sally Hansen Gem Crush polishes since they are being discontinued in Walgreens (I'm not sure about other stores, yet).  So I figured it would be better to get this group up while they are still available at a lot of stores - whether full price or clearance.

I don't have the full collection since just before these came out, the Wet 'n Wild Ice Baby collection came out and I think 3 of them were pretty much identical to the Sally Hansen - and I purchased the Wet 'n Wild ones first.  The Gem Crush collection is also pretty full of dupes of polish from China Glaze and an OPI.  So with that said, let's see which 5 I do have.  Dupes will be listed later.
 03 Big Money, 01 Showgirl Chic, 04 Bling-tastic, 07 Showgirl Chic, 06 Razzle Dazzler
03 Big Money, 01 Showgirl Chic, 04 Bling-tastic
07 Lady Luck, 06 Razzle Dazzler

Dupes for the ones I do have:

  • Showgirl Chic is a dupe of China Glaze Lorelei's Tiara
  • Bling-tastic is a dupe of OPI Gone Gonzo

If you're curious/for your reference, the names of the ones I did not get and they're respective dupes:
  • 02 Cha-Ching! is similar to Wet 'n Wild Rockin' Rubies; also a dupe of China Glaze Love Marilyn
  • 05 Be-Jeweled is essentially identical to Wet 'n Wild It's All In the Cut
  • 08 Glitz Gal  was too similar to Wet 'n Wild Diamond in the Rough; also a dupe of China Glaze Some Like it Haute
Side note here: Wet 'n Wild recently re-released most of the Ice Baby collection (might still be available at some Walgreens) and some of the Ice Baby polishes are also renamed in the Fergie line.  Couldn't hurt to check the Spoiled line, as well.  **EDIT:  The re-released polishes are not the same polishes as the originals.  Check out Frazzle and Aniploish's post comparing them.**

Do you have any of the Gem Crush polishes in your collection?  Are you planning on getting any (especially if you see them on clearance)?  And of course, let me know if you'd like to see any of these on the nail soon!
