Spotted, Hauled & Swatched - L.A. Girl 3D Effects Hologram Polish

Hi!

**all items purchased by me

This edition of Spotted, Hauled & Swatched is a bit late, but depending on your location, it may still be relevant.  The collection is L.A. Girl 3D Effects Hologram polish.  I found these at the end of March, but I think I saw at least some of them last week at Rite Aid still.  I've got quite a few pictures so let's get started!

So let's see the display first (in 2 pictures):

The polishes I did not get since I thought they were too close to 3 of my Zoya polishes (and 1 Milani):
3D Silver, Purple Effect, Sparkle Ruby
Black Illusion

If I see the coral one, I might get it still....

Now for the 3 I did get:
Dazzling Pink, Teal Dimension, Brilliant Blue

And for swatches.  This is 2 coats of each:
Brilliant Blue, Dazzling Pink, Teal Dimension

I love how well these swatched on the wheel!  I'd say I'm much more of a fan of the scattered holo look than linear so these are welcome additions to the stash.  These were less than $5 each, available at Rite Aid.

Did you get any of the L.A. Girl 3D Hologram polishes?  Do you prefer linear or scattered holo polishes?

Miscellaneous Monday - Green, Teal & Clear Accented Necklaces

Hi!

**all items purchased by me

No matter how much I didn't want it to be Monday today, it is...so it's time for Miscellaneous Monday.  I've got the last of the necklaces I made in 2012.  I feel like I'm always behind, but that's okay.

I've got 3 necklaces to share and I'm so ready to start wearing them.  Wasn't much point in wearing them during the winter since I was pretty much always bundled up.
Bronze and teal necklace.  I think I got all the supplies from Walmart, but it was at least a year ago.  I ended up making a transition between 2 different sizes of chain since I wanted to use up supplies I had and neither chain was long enough.  My solution was to put together a series of beads for that transition - it looks more purposeful.
Next is a concentric circle pendant (from Walmart last year) on a gunmetal chain with green accents.  Where the green drop is in the center of the pendant was actually 2 other charms that I did not like at all so I took them out and added in the see-through light green drop and then put a couple of green beads together to make an accent for the end of the chain.
And the last necklace is a simple gunmetal flower(?) accented with clear sparkles.  I really like the chain for this one.  If I remember right, it might be called a twisted chain.  I put a simple clear bead for the end of the necklace.  This one is probably one of the longest necklaces I've made.

That's it for 2012 jewelry projects.  Now it will be time for what I've made this year, which hasn't been much yet.  I haven't been feeling creative, nor have I had the time to do much - I've been too busy sorting through things to clear out what hasn't been used or I don't like anymore and also doing sewing repairs on clothing.

I've also decided that I'm not that fond of how I have my necklaces stored anymore.  It worked fine when I didn't have so many, but since I put up my hangers, I've bought a lot more necklaces as well as made a bunch.  Now I can't see what's what so I'm brainstorming on how to change up accessory storage.  Maybe get one of those Sterlite drawer units and categorize by metal finish or put all the green items in one drawer, blue in another, etc... That would result in a lot of drawers, unless I just did it for colors I don't have as much of and leave silver and gunmetal items as they are.

Do you organize your accessories by type and color, or are they all in one spot?

Sunday Stash Sharing - Revlon "Dupes" Polishes

Hi!

**all items purchased by me

I went back to the Revlon drawer today for the next installment of my Sunday Stash Sharing.  There's enough in that drawer that I had to figure out how to divide them all up, so I decided to do all the ones that are dupes of high-end polishes today.  I suppose you could say today's post is one massive "My Version of" post.  The dupes are of Chanel, Deborah Lippmann, OPI and Nails Inc. polishes.  All of the dupes are according to Google searches, blogs and Temptalia's website.

So let's get started with Chanel's impostors:
(front row) Runway Pearl - dupe of Chanel Intermezzo
826 Perplex - dupe of Chanel Paradoxal
Gold Coin (I have a mini bottle) - dupe of Chanel Diwali
(back row) Black with Envy - dupe of Chanel Black Pearl
570 Vixen - dupe of Chanel Vamp
Carbonite - dupe of Chanel Graphite
Carbonite (left) compared to Gold Coin (right)

And now for the Deborah Lippman (D.L.) impostors:
(front row) 940 Facets of Fuchsia - dupe of D.L. Bad Romance
770 Heavenly - dupe of D.L. Stairway to Heaven
261 Sparkling - dupe of D.L. Some Enchanted Evening
(back row) 430 Whimsical - dupe of D.L. Glitter in the Air
Midnight Sparkle - dupe of D.L. Lady Sings the Blues!

And finally, the impostors of OPI and Nails Inc:
340 Stunning - dupe of OPI Servin' Up Sparkle
260 Girly - dupe of Nails Inc Sprinkles Topping Lane
Some notes if you want to hunt these down:

  • Perplex is now called 330 Naughty
  • Facets of Fuchsia is called 761 Scandalous
  • Black with Envy, Carbonite, Runway Pearl and Midnight Sparkle are all limited edition polishes from the past few years
  • Vixen and Gold Coin are both older polishes (and not coming up using the search bar on Revlon's site) so I'm not sure as to whether they are still available or not
Do you have any of these polishes?  Any you would like to see on the nail soon?  Just let me know!

**dupe notations are as a result of multiple Google searches over time - I cannot verify them myself

Time for Pampering

Hi!

Ever have one of those days when you just don't feel like thinking?  I'm having one today, which means that I'm having a hard time coming up with a topic.  At least I was productive earlier today and got a bunch of weeds pulled (although I barely made a dent in the weed patch...I mean gardens). What I really am in the mood for right this very minute is a bubble bath and "spa night."
"Bubblin' with joy" - Minnie Mouse in bubble bath ornament

So I think for today, I'm going to ask a question:

What's your favorite product to use for at-home spa time?

I'm going to go fill up a bubble bath, put on a face mask, work on smoothing out some callouses, take off old polish from my toe nails and other girly things that I've been neglecting.  Maybe I'm in the mood for all this since I haven't been feeling very pretty lately...I'm having a hard time getting the spots on my one cheek to clear up and heal properly.

What do you do to get yourself to feel pretty again after being down?

Spotted, Hauled & Swatched - Julie G Gumdrops Polish Collection!

Hi!

**all items purchased by me

After much technical difficulties today, I'm finally able to share my latest Spotted, Hauled & Swatched.  This time it's the limited edition Julie G Gumdrops collection.  I actually ordered this from groupon.com on the 14th of April - even with shipping it was still a better price for the whole collection than purchasing them from Rite Aid (where I currently enjoy 20% off from spending so much last year).  And, when I ordered them, I hadn't yet seen the displays out.  A couple days later, I started seeing the displays.
I just love to have display pictures!
And this picture shows how they arrived - all safe and sound.  It took about a week or so.  I was a bit worried after seeing on Instagram that some had received broken bottles.
Blueberry Fizz, Crushed Candy, Rock Candy
Hot Cinnamon, Tangerine Dream, Sugar Rush

And for swatches.  This is 2 coats of each:
Blueberry Fizz, Crushed Candy, Rock Candy, Hot Cinnamon, Tangerine Dream, Sugar Rush
~~The 2 swatch pictures are more color-accurate than the bottle shot pictures.~~

I love the way these all swatched nicely at 2 coats.  I'm trying to decide which one I want to wear first. :-)  I think I'm going to have to redo my polish storage area so I can have one drawer dedicated to textured polishes since I've quite the collection going between these, Zoya and OPI.

Did you get any of the Julie G Gumdrop collection?

Sinful Colors Beverly Hills

Hi!

**all items purchased by me

Today I've got a very brief nail post since the polish was not being cooperative when I wore it and tried to take pictures.  All but one picture made it too purple.  So what polish was it that was so uncooperative for it's pictures?  Sinful Colors Beverly Hills.  This is a limited edition polish that originally came out in 2011 but has recently been re-released in the Sure Bet collection at Walgreens.

I believe this is 2 slightly thick coats of Beverly Hills...and probably over Pro FX Fiberized ridge filling base coat (these pictures are old and that's what I was using then).  I honestly don't remember if I used a topcoat or not.  If I did, it was probably Insta-Dri from Sally Hansen.

Beverly Hills is a pretty pastel pinky-purple creme that reminds me of one of the shades of purple that butterfly bushes come in.  I quickly put this back on my pinkie nail while writing this and I'm finding that it's a touch sheer at 2 coats so 3 would be necessary to cover all the visible nail line, unless you use thicker coats than I just did.

Did you get Beverly Hills when it originally came out?  Or maybe during it's reappearance?  Do you know of a similar purple in another brand?

Project "Finish This Stuff" - Get Out of My Stash Edition

Hi!

**all (but 1) items purchased by me
**contains product received for review

After an extremely busy Monday (cleaning the whole house for an appraisal), I needed to use Tuesday after the appointments to recover my energy.  As for today, I've got a post I've been meaning to get up for a while now.  It's another Project "Finish This Stuff" update, but rather than these things being finished, it's all things that are being given away - the products are all still good, they just don't work for me now.  As usual in this series, I've included a brief review &/or reason for why each is leaving.

For this edition, I'll be showing what hair stuff is leaving or has already left my stash.
  • One full size and 3 travel size bottles of Got2b Guardian Angel Flat Iron Balm. Initially I did like this and went through almost an entire bottle.  But then I and my hair stylist started noticing issues.  This is a possible culprit to the product build-up issues I discussed in this post.  I won't be using again.
  • One full size bottle (but used out of) of Got2b Guardian Angel Blow-Out Lotion.  Same as above -  I initially did like it, but it's now in the category of possible culprit to product build-up issues.  I won't be using again.
  • One bottle (about half gone) of Pantene Frizzy to Smooth Conditioner for Medium-Thick hair.  Other than periodically using a clarifying shampoo, the only shampoos and conditioners I now use are specifically tailored to colored hair.  My only possible use for this now is as a shave cream and I have plenty of other conditioners to use for that.  Better to clear it out of the stash.

  • Tresemme Smooth Simply No Frizz Spray Gel (most of the bottle).  I didn't care for the way this left my hair feeling a bit crunchy when I would blow dry it straight after spraying this in.  This was just not a fit for my hair type and style.  I gave this to my mom since she is always trying products to help shape her curls and uses much less heat on her hair.
  • Goody Simple Styles Spin Pins (**received from Influenster for review).  The concept seems good, but for me, it is unusable since I prefer my hair short (asymmetrical bob) and have no plans to let it grow out any time soon, if ever.

  • 2 full size bottles of Sunsilk Anti-Poof hair creme.  I used this product a lot more when I had long hair (middle-of-my-back long) but since I cut it short a few years ago I rarely use it.  I kept one bottle that is more than half gone.  I'm not even sure if this product is still available.  It did help keep my hair from getting as big each time I let it air dry.

I still have loads more products that are being destashed to share in a couple upcoming posts at some point.  I've cleaned out a lot of makeup products and there's also quite the collection of polish "dupes" that are being evicted.

Have you cleaned out your stash of unused products lately?  What did you do with your excess?

Sunday Stash Sharing - Revlon Matte Suede & ColorStay Polishes

Hi!

**all items purchased by me

It's Sunday again, so it's time to share a bit more of what's in my massive polish stash.  I picked out some more Revlon polishes again for today (but there's still more Revlons in the drawer for another day).

So the first grouping is the Matte Suede finish polishes from Revlon.  I'm not sure if these are still available or not since I bought these quite a while ago.  I don't see these on Revlon's website anymore, so I think they may be discontinued (but you could always search on Amazon or eBay).
008 Powder Puff, 863 Ruby Ribbon, 933 Emerald City, 507 Fire Fox

And my ColorStay "collection" of one:
240 Amethyst (I believe it's still available)

I've still got quite a few Revlon polishes from the regular line - I'll have to break them up into at least 2 posts in order to not have one massive post that takes forever to load.

Do you have any recommendations for the ColorStay line of polishes?  Is there any polish you'd like to see on the nail soon?  Let me know!

Collective Walmart Haul from March!

Hi!

**all items purchased by me

It's Saturday evening and I'm having a hard time keeping myself sitting in front of the computer.  Random thoughts of "oh, I should go do that" and "oh, I need to do that" keep popping into my head and off I go.  Ever have a day like that?

Anyway, I thought today I'd share a collective haul of what I bought at Walmart throughout the month of March.  Most of what I'm showing today was bought one item per trip (except for a couple things at the end).  Let's get started!

I bought this Pure Ice polish.  It's supposed to be a dupe of Butter London's Black Knight.
Pure Ice Private Show

On a couple different trips I bought these 2 polishes from the new Hard Candy polish line.  These 2 are both from the Sprinkles line.
 Gummy Green and Pixie Pink

Of course, here's my replacement bottle of Neutrogena Body Clear body wash.  Can't be without it.

And for this final picture, I bought the Hard Candy polish in one trip then the bracelet and Neutrogena toner in another trip.
clearance bracelet, Neutrogena Pore Refining Toner and Hard Candy polish in Black Tie Optional
~~if you get this toner, check your bottle! Mine leaks from the bottom so I have to store it upside down~~
I had a heck of a time tracking this one down - the usual location I go to was sold out; I went to a different store and the display wasn't filled yet; came back to that second store a couple days later and finally found it hiding behind something else.  But it is well worth the hunt!  Love the look of this one!

At some point during March, I also bought another tee shirt, thinking it was a coral.  But when I got it home, it looked a bit more orange than coral.  Stupid store lighting.  And clearly, I make way too many trips to Walmart.

Have you had any good finds at Walmart lately?  Do you have a favorite polish from Hard Candy's new collection?

PixieDust in Zoya Nyx

Hi!

**all items purchased by me

I thought that I would share a recent mani today, and since I was talking so much about textured polishes I thought it would be a good idea to share a textured polish.  As of the time of writing this post, I have 10 textured polishes in my immediate possession (and the Julie G Gumdrops set - this was on my list of exceptions from the restricted buy - on it's way to me from the recent Groupon deal).  I haven't shared all of the textures yet, so I decided for today it's PixieDust time!

Despite Zoya's advice to not use a base coat, I actually had already put my ridge filler on before picking my polish.  I don't feel that doing so negatively affected the finish or wear time.

So with that said, this is 3 coats of Zoya Nyx.  Since this is a lighter color, it did need the 3rd coat to make it nicely opaque.
This picture is showing a bit darker than it is in real life.
Nyx is a gorgeous light blue with pretty silver sparkle mixed nicely throughout.  So eye-catching.

As much as I love how OPI's Liquid Sand polishes look, there's something about Zoya's PixieDust polishes that makes me love them just a bit more than the OPI's.  Maybe because it looks more delicate...maybe it's because the texture is all the same across the nail (unlike some of OPI's with larger chunks of glitter mixed in,  which I do like - I just have to be in the mood for that feeling).
Just look at that sparkle on the slightly blurry pinkie nail!

If I had to pick a favorite color from the first release of the PixieDust collection, I'd say my number 1 favorite is Chyna.  Probably next would by Nyx and Vespa tied for second.  Note to self: I need to get on the ball with sharing nail posts again.  I've worn nearly all my textured polishes (at least once), but have only shared a few.  Oops.

Description of Zoya Nail Polish in Nyx

Zoya Nail Polish in Nyx can be best described as a perfect periwinkle with a sugared sparkle, in the exclusive Zoya PixieDust Matte Sparkle formula.

Drugstore Wish List

Hi!

It's Thursday night and I'm so warm inside the house that my brain isn't functioning to think of a topic.  So I thought I would do a little round-up of posts of some new limited edition things that are on my "wanna buy now" list.

First up, is the Milani Naturally Chic Shadow Eyez collection.  I saw this posted on Instagram and I believe the same day, Nouveau Cheap did a post about it (you can see that post here).  I love the Shadow Eyez pencils.  I just wish this wasn't going to be limited edition, and I also wish it wasn't going to be at "select Walgreens" since the ones I go to the most don't carry Milani at all.

Next up is the L.A. Girl Sand Blast Textured nail polish collection.  Once again, my info is from Nouveau Cheap (love her & her blog) I am loving the textured polish trend, plus it's like 2 polishes in one!  This collection looks like it might have different colors from what OPI and Zoya have released so far (or that I've bought from those 2 so far).  I've already bought the few 3D effects Hologram polish that I wanted (also mentioned in that same post)- I'll have a haul coming up soon of which I bought.  I'll be waiting for Rite Aid to get the Sand Blast polishes in so I can see them in person.

Just in today, on Nouveau Cheap's blog, there is news of yet another new collection from Sinful Colors.  More glitters!  My favorite (as if I need any more glitter).  These ones cost a bit more for some reason, but I'll still probably get them if I see them.

Another makeup thing I'm looking out for is from Wet 'n Wild.  There's 2 sets of eyeshadow medleys from the ColorIcon line.  You can see swatches of the shadows here on the Project Swatch blog.

Next thing I've got on my list is the Nicole by OPI Gum Drops collection (depending on if they are the same or similar to textured polishes I already have).  The swatches I've linked to are on Deuce Beauties' blog.  There's one in particular that looks unique to what's out there already, so that one for sure is coming home with me if/when I find it.

And finally, a collection from Orly.  The MegaPixel FX collection (depending on the price and similarity to others).  If Since these are priced higher like the glitter FX ones were last year, I'm hesitating on purchasing them - maybe if I find them on clearance.  ~~Edit~~I found swatches here and I'm kind of on the fence about them now; the colors are nice but the texture is lacking.

I think that's quite a list of "wants" for right now.  Most likely, I won't be getting everything.  Some things, I may never find - the Milani Shadow Eyez for instance (I never did see Milani's textured polishes in person).  Orly's MegaPixel collection may be to pricey for me (or picked over by now).  The Nicole by OPI Gum Drops might be too similarly colored to textured polishes I already have.

Do you have anything on your wanted list?  Is it limited edition or available all the time?

I'm off to go find an empty nail wheel and swatch all my textured polishes like I did with my magnetics.  I'll be able to take it with me and see how similar the ones on my list are to ones I have already.

Workout Wednesday - Restarting the Effort...

Hi!

I can't believe how fast today went by.  I was, surprise(!), busy going through boxes seeing if anything could be gotten rid of.  And I found more stuff, so now I need to make a trip to the recycling drop since I cleaned out boxes full of old papers.  And I still need to make that second trip to Goodwill.

Anyway, today is Wednesday, so that means that it should be a Workout Wednesday update (it's been quite a while since I've done an update).
I don't have much of a good update unfortunately.  I enjoyed eating too much since my last post on the subject so I'm basically starting over again from my mid-January weigh in.  Bummer.  I clearly need to cut back on the sweets and portion sizes again.

So what have I been doing to be active?  Moving boxes from room to room and to different floors in the house (or out the door to the car).  I am trying to remember to do leg lifts and/or half-squats while I'm either brushing my teeth or ironing each night.  I really need to try harder to be more consistent with actual workouts.

To get back on track, now is as good of a time as any to re-focus on workouts and eating less.  I've got loads of exercise DVDs (and there's always YouTube) and various fitness gadgets and gear to keep me busy for a long, long time.  Plus the treadmill and weight torture device...I mean machine...  And now that I think it might actually be Spring, I could be lacing up the shoes and going for walks through the neighborhood or trying to get the garden under control from clean up that didn't happen last year and all the weeds that are already taking over.

What's your favorite type of workout?  Any recommendations?

Collective March Haul - Beauty & Fitness!

Hi!

**all items purchased by me

Today I decided that I needed to clean out my "haul" folder on the computer so I'll be sharing a lot of what I bought during the month of March.  All the items were purchased at different stores throughout the month, so let's get to it.

First up, I found the first Jordana polish I wanted to purchase.  I got this from Flower Factory (which I believe is either a local or Ohio-only store).
Jordana Glitters polish in 22 Galaxy

Next is Sally's Beauty Supply.  This is from the weekend that clearance items were on sale for an additional 50% off, so this was exactly a month ago.
China Glaze 951 White Cap - newly discontinued

Next stop, we have Target.  I finally decided to try the bent eyeliner brush from ELF.
Angled Eyeliner Brush (studio line) - I also bought a pretty purple tee

And I also went to TJ Maxx looking for some new fitness gear that will hopefully be fun for me to do on this quest to shape up/slim down.  These look like hopefully I'll get some good leg workouts, which is a major trouble spot for me.
Pilates 4-way Stretch and Pilates Power Band - both from Bally Total Fitness brand

As you can see, each time I bought something, I only got one or 2 things so I've really managed to keep spending under control I think (except for the limited edition makeup or polish collections...).  Now I just need to get in gear to really use all my new goodies.  I'm hoping that I'll be able to continue on this path of restricted buying next month as well (except I know I want to get OPI's Bond Girls collection and Zoya's summer PixieDust collection, but I think that may be it).  If I can control myself next month with those being the only 2 exceptions, I'll be ecstatic with myself. Who knows, I may be able to wean myself down to an entire month of no purchases eventually...

Have you found anything good lately?  When you buy things, do you just get one or 2 at a time, or do large purchases?

Miscellaneous Monday - DIY Bracelet and Earrings

Hi!

**all items purchased by me

It's time for another installment of Miscellaneous Monday.  Today's topic is DIY accessories in the way of a bracelet and a pair of earrings.  These definitely don't go together, but there are times when I sit down to make things with no plan to make sets - I just use whatever speaks to me that time.  This was one of those times.

First up is a simple beaded stretch bracelet.  The hardest part was figuring out the layout of the bead pattern.
I think I bought these beads from Big Lots in a set of some sort last year.

And for the earrings.  Red is a color of accessory that I don't have a whole lot of and I do have a few red tops, both for cool weather and summer time so I wanted to add some more red options to the accessory area.
All I needed was 8 beads total (2 sizes), some black findings and the black form (which I believe I purchased from Walmart).  I bought the beads from a local craft store.

And that's it for the mismatched DIY accessories for today.  I think one more post and I'll be caught up with what I made during the fall and early winter then it will be on to more recent projects.  I did manage to start and finish some necklaces and a pair of earrings sometime last month, so those will be making their appearance in the coming weeks.

I feel like as far as April is going, I've spent all my time sorting through and seeing what I can clear out of various areas of the house either to give away or just throw away, so that's really been eating into my crafting time.

Anyone else horrible at balancing your time between all the various things going on at the same time?  Any suggestions on how to store lots and lots of "fish-hook" earrings?  I've got so many I'm not sure how to arrange them and see each pair...
