Mardi Gras Inspired Nails

The other day I got inspired by watching TV (might have been the Rachael Ray show) for how to paint my nails  - a preview of the Mardi Gras/"Fat Tuesday" episode was being shown and the colors reminded me of a polish that I had.  Perfect!  Actually, now that I think about it, when I was swatching the polish on a nail wheel soon after I bought it I remember thinking it would be about perfect for Mardi Gras time.  So, here it is!

Over my usual base of Bridge the Ridge, I put 2 coats of China Glaze Fast Track (from the 2012 Hunger Games collection).  I did not use any quick dry top coat since I was taking my time.
Fast Track is a pretty nude colored polish with a lovely golden micro shimmer running through it, which is not shy about showing itself.  The only issue I had with Fast Track is during clean up - the shimmer just loved to stick to my skin and was determined to stick around.  I think this is another one of those "palette cleanser" colors, but there's still interest. Definitely office/conservative environment appropriate.

Then I did a glitter gradient starting from the base of my nails and used China Glaze Glitter All the Way (from the 2012 Holiday Joy collection).  I used China Glaze Fast Forward top coat, but I waited a while before putting it on, and I made sure to wrap my tips with the top coat (it caused shrinkage the last time I used it, but maybe it just doesn't get along well with OPI polishes on me).  No shrinkage this time!
Glitter All the Way has a clear base that is pretty well packed with glitter in green, gold, bright purple and red.  The green glitters are just a bit bigger than the rest so the green stands out the most.  This polish behaved very well for doing the gradient - not thick or goopy and the glitter came pretty easily off the brush right where I wanted it.  It was, however, temperamental for getting good pictures...
I love the way this looks!  The micro shimmer in Fast Track really enhances the multi-colored glitter of Glitter All the Way.  I really don't want to take it off...  This is probably one of my favorite glitter layering combinations that I've come up with to date.  :-)  Both polishes are limited edition - Fast Track was actually one of the first China Glaze polishes I ever bought (and I got it on clearance from Sally's).  You might still come across one or both of these online if you missed out last year.

Did you do anything on your nails for Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday?
