Where I Want to be Right Now

I'm just going to do a quick post today showing you where I would like to be right now.  Kitty will be helping me show you as he seems to always have the best spots picked out for being warm.

I can't decide if just part of the head peeking out from a nice warm, heavy blanket would be the perfect spot

Or if nothing but a few fingers/toes sticking out from under the blanket would be perfect.

If you can't guess, right now I am on the cold side.  I'm definitely wishing that my computer didn't have to have a small box fan aimed right on it at all times to keep it cool enough...that makes for some pretty cold legs and feet.  Combine that with the falling temperatures of the beginning of Fall and, well...all I want to do is be under a blanket or three.
Kitty and I snuggling.

When the temperature starts to cool, how do you keep warm?  Blankets, warm drinks, snuggling with a pet?

September Sally's Beauty Haul with China Glaze & Orly!

Today I decided I wanted to share the items that I've picked up during the month of September.  That makes it sound like there's a lot, but actually I only bought things during 2 stops.  I did manage to stay away from Sally's all the way up until there was an email announcement last weekend about clearance items being an additional 50% off...that broke my resolve.  I had to check it out!

My 50% off clearance goodies (paid less than $7 for all 4 combined!):
2 China Glaze polishes from the On Safari collection:  Jungle Queen and Elephant Walk
There were other colors (and the 2 glitters) as well, but I just wanted the more unique looking ones and had already bought the glitters
2 Orly polishes from the Electronica collection: Decoded and Shockwave
Now I have all 4 from this collection

And then I saw this on Orly's Facebook page a couple days later and decided that it's unique enough that if I could find it, I would get it.  I knew I had seen it at the store recently (but I was entirely focused on clearance goodies so didn't get it then).  And then since I couldn't remember which location I saw it at, it took visiting all 3 of the stores closest to where I live, and driving around in crappy weather, but I found it.
Orly Atomic Splash from the latest Glam FX glitter release.
I wish the price had been less, but....gunmetal glitter!
I've already gotten into the bottle and currently have it on as glitter tips.

Lately, I seem to be drawn to all the gray polishes out there...must be the weather.  Today was the first day in at least a week that there was a little bit of sunshine.

Does the weather influence the shades of polish you gravitate towards?  Did you find any pretties at Sally's clearance sale (if you went)?

Online Shopping and Ramblings Induced by a Cold...

I'm not sure what to blog about today.  For the past week and a half, I've had a pretty bad cold with a sore throat and body aches so my energy, focus and attention span are all about nil.  My current favorite saying?:  "Make the sickie go away!"

And apparently, the smallest things amuse me when I feel like this.  I have this little section of hair that grows down in front of my ear, all pretty short hair.  Even though I straightened most of my hair yesterday, that tiny little section has one perfect curl.  I find that highly amusing.

So what have I achieved today?  I made it through a dentist appointment (all good) and picked up a few things from Big Lots.  I made brownies...and ate 2 of them already.  I've done a little proofreading for the Mister.  One more task must be completed - ironing a dress shirt.

Oh, and I did a little online shopping on  I did a little damage.  I feel a little like a kid right now, but take a look at what I ordered:
Minnie Mouse Beauty Shop Play Set -- 9-Pc.
Goes perfect with both my love of Minnie and love of beauty products!  I see this being set up on a shelf between my vanity and my dresser.  I also ordered an ornament:
Minnie Mouse Sketchbook Ornament
This ornament is going to be hanging out somewhere in the kitchen all year long.

So, I have some adorable Minnie things on their way to me.  I will have to wait longer than normal since Disney isn't shipping out any orders until October 1... :-(  Oh, well.

How do you get re-energized when you've been sick for way too long?  A little retail therapy?  A hot cup (or 4) of tea?

August TJ Maxx Polish Haul!

I have another little haul to share!  These pretties were all purchased during a couple of trips to TJ Maxx during August.  This store is one that some times it's good, sometimes it's disappointing.

So, during my first visit, I bought just a couple of things:
I found a nail art collection that has 3 neon colors and a wheel full of shaped rhinestones.  I was mainly after the rhinestones, but the polishes might work out for if I ever get brave enough to do neon nails during the summer, or if I reattempt that neon funky french look again.
And I found Nicole by OPI Let's Get Star-ted!
From a quick Google search, it looks like this polish was released for Holiday 2009, which was way before I really got into polish.

Now let's look at what I got during my other August trip there.
Nicole by OPI duo packs for $7.99.
(left) Up & Kim-ing Pink and (right) Lights, Kim-era, Action!
(left) Here Kim's the Sun and (right) Kim Konfidential
Love the price on Essie!  $3.99!
(left)Your Hut or Mine - Summer Resort 2011 collection
(right) Main Squeeze - Wedding 2010 collection

If you shop at TJ Maxx, is it consistently a good find, or is it just once in a while you find goodies?

Wet 'n Wild and Ready to Pounce!

I really need to get better at coming up with post titles.  Anyway...

Today I have a pretty polish that I picked up before Halloween last year.  I used this color as the base to a gradient a couple weeks ago (that look will be up at a later date).

I started off with my current base of Bridge the Ridge base coat.  Then I applied 2 easy coats of Wet 'n Wild Fast Dry polish in Ready to Pounce.

Don't mind the smudge on the index finger - I think a kitty hair landed on it before it was set up.

Ready to Pounce is a gorgeous deep, vampy purple with a reddish-purple shimmer running through.  This is a older limited edition polish from Wet 'n Wild.  After quite a long hunt that drove me slightly crazy, I was only able to find 3 of the colors from the original 2011 On the Prowl collection (click here for my version of the collection), but a few of the ones I wasn't able to find have now been released under the Spoiled line which I picked up.  As far as Ready to Pounce dupes or re-releases under other names, I'm not sure.

Do you love purchasing limited edition collections as much as I do?  Would you like me to do an updated version of that collection now?  Let me know!

Miscellaneous Monday...another Walmart DIY earring kit

It's been a few days since I've posted as I've been battling a nasty cold that has completely wiped my energy and focus out.  I'm still not over it unfortunately (as I write this, it almost feels like I'm about to get worse), but it's been bugging me that I haven't gotten anything up.  So I'm going to do a quick post on the other earring kit that I bought at Walmart summer 2011 (I feel like I can't put last summer anymore since summer 2012 is done where I live) for a Miscellaneous Monday.

This kit made quite a few pairs of earrings.  This is most of them.  I never finished making all the earrings because one pair I didn't like the design of and another didn't include enough beads to make the design according to instructions, so I haven't got around to redesigning that pair either.

The pair on the right I had to shorten the number of links called for to be in better proportion with my short self.  :-)
I wore the pink ones the other day and with my current hair style, I think it looked quite cute to see them peeking out from the layers.
I wore the brown pair quite a few times last fall since I don't own/haven't made much in the brown family but I do have a few brown shirts in light and dark shades that this pair goes with.

Mini Marshall's Haul!

I haven't been feeling particularly well this week so I took yesterday off, hoping I would get over my cold/sinus whatever...that didn't work.  But I need to try to stay in the habit of blogging everyday, so I thought today I would share the few things I picked up at Marshall's 2 months ago.

I went looking for some more things from the Balm to try, but I didn't find any.  However, I did find a new pair of cute sunglasses as well as a couple of Essie polishes.

Steve Madden sunglasses.  I think they were around $10.
(top) Essie nail polish in Pinkadelic
(bottom) Essie nail polish in Sequin Sash
These were around $4 each

When I picked up Pinkadelic, it was with the intention to give it to my mom since (according to work rules) she can only wear the most neutral of shades...somehow this bottle is still in my stash.  Oops.  Both of these polishes are sheer, but both also have their own little "extra" that makes them interesting & pretty. These will be nice to dress up other polishes with.  :-)

Since this purchase, the few other times I've been to Marshall's have yielded nothing.  Boo (but better on the wallet that way).

Have you found anything good at a Marshall's near you?

Milani Holo Mani!

Today I'm showing off a pretty holographic nail polish!  Lately I've been really attracted to holo polishes, as well as duochromes.  I don't have many polishes with a holo look, and none with that linear look.  But I do have Milani 3D Holographic Nail Lacquer in Cyberspace!

I started off with my usual base of Bridge the Ridge, then added 3 coats of Milani Cyberspace.
 Regular room light
Held out from under the lamp
 Natural daylight through the window
Under the lamp
Look at that pretty effect!!

Cyberspace is a pretty sky blue polish with a gorgeous scattered holographic effect.  I did notice that when I put topcoat on after taking the pictures, the effect was definitely less apparent.  Boo.  Note to self:  don't use topcoat with this line.

Cyberspace is one of 6 polishes in Milani's line that have the holographic effect.  I bought my bottle from KMart on clearance last year.  I think that I will probably pick up a few more from the line as well, so I'm waiting on a decent sale at CVS.  If you'd like to see all 6 swatched, click here.

Do you have any of the Milani holo polishes?  Any holo polishes from other brands that you would recommend?

Miscellaneous Monday...DIY Necklaces!

For today's Miscellaneous Monday post, I'm featuring a few more necklaces that I've made.
I kept this one pretty simple - no end-of-chain decoration.
Necklace pendant bought on clearance summer 2011 from Walmart.
I think the chain was a clearance find, too.
This copper sunflower (?) pendant also came from Walmart, most likely on clearance, in 2011.
I added the purple bead hanging in the center, as well as a coordinating end-of-chain decoration using a larger faceted bead and  some seed beads in the same lilac/lavender purple.
I really like the way that this one came out.
This necklace is simply composed of a chain and fancy pendant with black beads suspended from the gunmetal piece.  Once again, this pendant was purchased summer 2011 on clearance.
It was actually a little more challenging since I had to get 2 pieces of chain exactly the same so the pendant would hang level.

I find that making all of these necklaces, earrings, and bracelets are both challenging and rewarding.  I definitely enjoy myself while making pieces and completely lose track of time (until my legs fall asleep and my back hurts so much that I can barely move).  In the recent days, I've been trying to branch out a little and incorporate some ideas that I've seen at stores to make my pieces more interesting and beautiful.

What kind of hobbies are you into?

My Really Wistful Wishlist

I thought that since I am currently attempting a restricted buy, I would do a post about some of the things that I want (not need) to purchase when I'm able to again (or can sneak in...shh).  I was hoping that this restriction would just be for the month of September, but since I got off to a rough start - and other large expenses have come up, I really should try to extend this into October.  The Mister would be happy if I stopped buying stuff, period (today he literally asked me "How much did you buy today?").  I hate it when he goes into that mode.
Anyway...back on topic.  So what all do I want to purchase?  There are quite a few things.  Some I will have to purchase (new cleanser to try)...others I just want to.  In this list of wanted products, I've included the links to where I found out about them.

  1. The new, limited edition EOS lipbalm trio.  How could I not want this?  It's lipbalm, which I can never have enough of, and it has Mickey on it(!).  I think a 3-pack for around $8 isn't too bad.  I'm hoping I will see these at Walgreens next month.
  2. Revlon's new nail stencils in this display as well as this one.  I love the idea of stencils for the nails since sometimes I have difficulty with stamps.  What would be even better is if these stencils would be reusable.
  3. Of course, if this is going to be an all-inclusive wish list, I must include Urban Decay.  :-)  I would love to get my hands on the Feminine, Dangerous, and Fun palettes.  The Smoked palette has also caught my eye.
  4. While on Urban Decay, I'll go ahead and include the Naked Foundation and the Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush.
  5. This one hasn't even been released yet...Color Club "Halographic" polishes - the whole entire collection, please.  :-)
  6. Sally Hansen has a new line of polishes coming out called Lustre Shines that I would love to see in person.  This post here has swatches of 6 of them.  Hopefully, these will become part of the permanent line so there won't be a rush to purchase.
  7. There are a few other things that I've seen while out at Rite Aid, but I don't have pictures of them or links to posts about them.  For instance, Sinful Colors came out with a magnetic line ($5) and there is one polish in particular that caught my eye.  And in the Halloween displays, there are some glitter polishes that are pretty unique to what I have (trying to decide whether to purchase the individual "pumpkin polishes" or the 4-piece set - the bottles are probably smaller in the set though).

I'm choosing to not even think about adding up the cost of all these items combined.  Will I purchase any of them?  I have to admit that I will probably end up picking up the items I find at drugstores...just one item per purchase per day (and maybe week).  Is this everything that I want?  Most likely, no since there are always new items coming out, new limited edition collections surfacing, etc....

I have to admit it:  I am addicted to shopping.

August Target Haul!

Today I'm sharing what I picked up at Target during the month of August.  Part of it is clearance and the other part is limited edition.

First up are the couple of items I picked up toward the beginning of the month:

Boots No.7 Stay Perfect Shadow Palette in 50 Storm on clearance for $3.98
Nicole by OPI Limited Edition/Target Exclusive polish in Just Busta Mauve

And then I bought just a few more things a week later:
Maybelline Stylish Smokes eyeshadow quad in 16Q Lavender Smokes (I used a $1 off coupon, too!)
L'Oreal Infallible eye shadow in 889 Midnight Blue (I think I used a $1 off coupon)
And a cute bracelet with brown and magenta wooden beads accented with little gold faceted beads

And that concludes my August Target haul (other than a pair of new Fall boots).  Much more restrained for makeup and polish than at other stores...

Have you tried any of the eyeshadows from Boots?  Let me know what you think if you have.  Did you pick up any of the Target exclusive N.OPIs?

Mini CVS Haul!

This post is featuring my last shopping trip to CVS, which took place around the middle of July(!).  I went in an effort to use up all of the register-printed coupons I had received from previous visits.  When I left the store, I did not receive any new coupons...and because of that, I haven't been back there since.  CVS is a bit of a drive for me to get to and I haven't noticed any super great sales that have really caused me to want to drive out there.  Anyway....

Let's see what I got:
Milani Shadow Eyez in 05 Aquatic Style and 04 Green Safari
--I have all of these except for the white shade--
--I'm hoping that Milani will come out with some more shades in the future--

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in 115 In a Flash

Physicians Formula pHmatchmaker pH Powered Blush in Natural 7559
--I really like this blush--

Scunci hair clips (these are not the smallest size available)
perfect for clipping my bangs out of my face while washing my face/doing makeup

Everything I bought had a corresponding CVS register coupon.  I believe that I also had a $5 off either $15 $20 beauty purchase coupon.  Since it's been so long, I don't remember the exact amount.

Have you tried the Physicians Formula matchmaker line?  What did you think of it?

Multi-Colored Funky French Tip Nails

I thought that while the weather was still a little bit warm, I should share a summer-y nail look that I did about a week ago.  I was really inspired by a post on MaD Manis back in July called "Naked Neon Nails" and I just had to try something similar.  So, let's see how mine turned out...

First I did 3 coats of Nicole by OPI Kim Konfidential:
Nice and shiny.  :-)
I won't comment on application since I was just playing around and being quick and sloppy.  If I'd taken my time, I'm sure it would have looked better.
This is definitely "mannequin hands" on me.

Then I freehanded on funky french tips in the following:

  • Sinful Colors Let's Meet - yellow (thumb)
  • Essie Coat Azure - blue (index)
  • Color Club Glitter Envy - green (middle)
  • Color Club You Got Soul-ar - orange (ring).  I had to thin my bottle of this some first.
  • Color Club Wink, Wink, Twinkle - purple (pinkie)

2 coats of each tip color

Since I was just playing around, my lines are a little uneven, I didn't do any cleanup around the edges nor did I put on any topcoat.  Oh well...I was just experimenting.  I don't really own very many actual "neon" colors, so I combined nice bright colors with a couple of Color Club polishes that look neon.  Since Glitter Green from Color Club has a speckled glitter look, I tried to pair it up with all other colors that had some glitter/shimmer (that of course, did not show up in any pictures).  I do like the idea...I'm just not sure the polish textures all go together.  Glitter Green really shows up speckled, a little bit on You Got Soul-ar, and not really on the other 3.  If I do this again, I'll try to stick to either all cremes or all shimmers of the same type.

Do you think my version of MaD Mani's look measures up?

August Rite Aid Haul!

Today I'm sharing what I bought from Rite Aid during the month of August.  My "excuse" for going to Rite Aid so often (4 times) during August?  Looking for the Maybelline Fall Fashion Week collection.  And in my searching, I ended up with some other things I wanted :-D :-D.  Oops.  I've already shared the Maybelline Fall Collection purchases here.  So let's get started with everything else I picked up over various stops.

For the first stop, I picked up 2 polishes from City Color that have already been featured.  In addition, I picked up:
Wet 'n Wild lipliner in 715 Plumberry (shown in both the top and bottom 2 pics)
(middle picture) Wet 'n Wild lipstick in Vamp It Up
--I got these 2 items since the Mister wants me to do a look with really dark lips--
Chameleon nail polish in C37 Corona
pretty duochrome!
Next visit:
(left) Sally Hansen Diamond Strength polish in 470 Black Tie
another duochrome (at least I think it is)!
(right) Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in 670 Midnight in NY
Julie G polish in Cupcakes & Castles

Next up I found the NYC summer collection I had been searching for!:
NYC limited edition polishes in Golden Glam(left) and Peach Sparkle (right)
Far upper right is Wet 'n Wild Fergie in Ferguson Crest Syrah
Just found out that Ferguson Crest Syrah is a dupe for Zoya Valerie!

Last stop of August:
In addition to all the Maybelline goodies I bought on this day, I also picked up:
NYC limited edition (Halloween line) polish in 373 Enchanted
I'm a little sad that the glitter doesn't transfer super well and the base color is really frosty/brush-strokey.

All these items were purchased before I decided to attempt a restricted buy.

Have you tried any of these items?  Let me know if you did and how you felt about them.
