Review: Maybelline Illegal Length Mascara

Hi!

I thought today I would put up a little review that I have been thinking about for a while now.  A few months ago, I needed a new lengthening mascara so I bought the new Maybelline Illegal Length mascara from Walmart (between $6-$8, depending on the store) thinking this would be a good one to try out.  I hadn't been let down by Maybelline for mascaras yet.  I can't really say that anymore.

This mascara has a traditional wand (no plastic bristles) and contains "fiber extensions."  Each time that I've used it, I felt like something was poking/scratching me in the eye.  So in order for me to actually use this mascara, I have to not put it down at the roots of my lashes as I normally do (and then I get paranoid that you can tell where the mascara is and is not).  The formula seems kind of thin so I have to put on 3-4 coats to see any type of noticeable difference in the length of my lashes.  Needless to say, I have not been that pleased with either the change in application technique nor the resulting look.

This mascara claims to not flake off, but I'm not so sure about that since every time I've tried it I felt like something was in my eye, both just after application (if doing it my usual way) and even later in the day.....  So I'm not sure if that was a flake or one of the fibers came off or what.  All I know is I don't like feeling like there's something in my eye.

What do I want in a mascara?  Volume/fullness and length--but no clumping.  Did I get this from this mascara?  No--no volume at all (but it doesn't claim to) and not that much extra length.  The only good thing that I can think of was that it didn't clump up on me.   I've also tried layering this with a different mascara and still didn't like the results.  I was much happier with my Maybelline Falsies (I felt like I had both volume/fullness and length) and L'Oreal Voluminous (I can build that one up to get some length and I definitely got volume/fullness).

I have to say that this mascara is one that I will NOT be repurchasing.  I also won't be purchasing mascara from any brand that says it has "fibers" in it.

Do you like fiber-containing mascaras?  What mascara is your favorite?
