2 Addicting Stores

So, clearly tonight I won't have my post done that I was planning on.  I spent most of the day outside hanging out in our new pool.  Instead I thought I would share what stores I seem to have been addicted to going to the last 2 weeks.

When I discovered how much stuff 2 of the 3 Sally Beauty Supply stores had on clearance, I was in trouble.  Plus, there were a couple of new hair things I saw them post on their Facebook page that I wanted to get, and there was press releases for Orly and China Glaze that had polishes I wanted to look for.... In the past 2 weeks, I have visited various locations at least 6 different times (4 of which purchases were made...expect a haul coming up in the next few days).  The only thing is that I wish I had gone to Sally's when they were doing 50% off clearance prices June 15-17.  Oh well--that time is past.

I've also spent a decent amount of time at Rite Aid...some things for outside...some things to fix up a nasty cut I ended up with...but mostly makeup.  So, once again, expect a haul from Rite Aid sometime this coming week (it will have multiple shopping trips from different days).

Do you have any stores that you seem to visit...A LOT?

**I have no affiliation with either store...or any store for that matter...just a shopping addiction

Busted Nail...Follow Up

I didn't get a chance to get anything up yesterday since I was outside literally all day (and got a little sunburn on my shoulders and back to prove it--oops) I figured that while I was waiting for someone to show up to the house today, I would get my post up.  I absolutely hate waiting for people to show up but at least I'm being productive while impatiently waiting...  Anyway...

For today's post, I thought I would do a follow up to my Busted Nail post from June 22.

I took this picture while I was waiting for an incredibly long red light to change today.

I did cut my pinkie nails back to the same length as the rest of my nails.  I would say that my ring finger nail--the one that broke off-- is growing out pretty well now.  Probably another week and it will be about even with all the others.  The Mia Secret treatment has helped me out again.

Do you have any treatments that work wonders for you?

Spotted: Essie Metallics

Today I'm bringing to you pictures of the most recent collection released by Essie.  The Metallic collection (I think that's the name...I can't seem to find my picture that I took of the entire display).  I've seen this collection at Rite Aid and Giant Eagle (grocery store).  I'm sure that if it's not already at Walgreens, it will be soon; I just haven't been inside Walgreens for a couple of weeks.  I also haven't been inside CVS for a while, but I'm not even sure how often CVS gets in limited edition collections from Essie.

So enjoy the pictures I did get of the bottles in the display (and please excuse the one blurry shot).

(left to right) No Place Like Chrome, Good as Gold, Penny Talk

 Nothing Else Metals, Blue Rhapsody

(same bottle of Blue Rhapsody) and No Place Like Chrome (again)

Since I am trying to limit my beauty purchases and I'm not that big of a fan of metallic/foil finishes, I most likely will not be picking up any of the 5 polishes.  But don't let my decision influence whether you pick any up or not.

Do you like metallic/foil finishes a lot?  Are you planning on getting any of these?

Mini Wet 'n Wild Nail Haul!!

I'm happy to say that the collection I have been looking for forever (at least that's what it felt like) is now over!  Story time... I was making desserts for an event for the Mister and ran out of one of the ingredients and decided to pick up more after my hair appointment the next day.  I went to Sally Beauty Supply to look at clearance after my hair appointment and debated on going inside Target to pick up the ingredient since I was there.  Instead I decided to just go to the grocery store I usually use (Giant Eagle) so while I was picking up a couple things, I thought just for the fun of it, I would go look in the beauty area.  And I was totally happy that I decided to skip Target.  This is what greeted me when I turned the corner:

I finally found Wet 'n Wild's Sparks & Stripes glitter collection!!  A little sneaky since there was no display back.  But I was so happy I finally found it!!  I almost forgot to take a picture but took the time to set my bottles back in their spots and snap a quick pic.

Spontaneous Combustion, Stars & Stripes, School of Pyrotechnics

I exercised restraint and only got 3.  The other 3 in the collection are ones from the Spoiled line (with different names) so I passed on them.  Spontaneous Combustion is also from the Spoiled line but I never picked it up.  Now I'm glad that I didn't since I like the brushes on the Fast Dry line better for my toes--better control so less mess to clean up.

In another post, I will show my Sparks & Stripes collection with these 3 as well as the 3 Spoiled ones (with their corresponding Fast Dry names).

These were, as usual for Fast Dry polishes, $1.99 each.  This is the only place I have seen them, but on other blogs people have reported seeing them at the drugstores.

Have you come across any long-sought-after collection lately?

Miscellaneous Monday...what's coming up

Since I couldn't think of something to highlight for today's Miscellaneous Monday post, I thought I would do a little preview if what I hope to be getting up this week.

  • I have a couple of New Sightings - one is a new Essie collection.
  • I have several hauls, including my first China Glaze polishes.
  • I also have my latest mani to post, and I will be sure to include how many days it actually lasted (might be a record for me).
  • I also have some My Version of... ideas to work on, as well as finish up a mini review of Revlon products.

I'm sure there are plenty of other things I could post abouttoo if I really thought about it.

Just for fun, I included a couple pictures of our kitty.   :-)

Dollar Tree Haul!

Today I have another mini haul from about a week ago.  I went to a different Dollar Tree looking to see if there were any other varieties of the Sally Hansen polishes that I posted about previously...there weren't.  But I did find some fun looking nail art supplies.  I figured, why not for $1 each?

These are from the brand Donna Michelle.  All 6 contain a different type of embellishment.  Each bottle is maybe an inch long (including the stopper).
Micro-micro glitter (left) and Bar Glitter (right)
Glitter (I think they are all hex-shaped and seem to have iridescent or holographic pieces) and Flakies (right)
Bullion (left) and Shaped Glitter (right)
This is a close up (it's upside-down compared to real life) of the packet on the right.  Just trying to show of the holographic-type color changing.

If these look like something you would be interested in purchasing yourself, don't wait too long as Dollar Tree doesn't always get the same things back in and beauty products seem to sell out fast (depending on what they are).

Have you found anything fun at your local Dollar Tree/General/Family Dollar/99-cent stores recently?

Busted Nail...

This month, the Mister and I have been very busy in setting up an outdoor living space, which is including a canopy (with a bug screen and nice furniture) and a pool.  Well, to make the story short...I started off with 10 nice looking medium length nails.  Now I have 1 major stub and 7 shorter-than-I-like nails and 2 regular length nails.  The stub's nail was gone before I even knew what happened, and the way that the end tore, it went up toward the cuticle so it made for a very inflamed looking fingertip for a few days.

This picture is after I filed all the rest way down (except pinkies which only got some filing)
You can see how angry-looking my ring finger is.

Before this incident, all 10 nails were a little longer than the pinkie that is pictured above.  My nails (except for my pinkies) all look so short and stubby now.  What am I doing to try to help get them all back to more like the length of my pinkie you ask?  Besides using Neosporin ( + pain relief) cream for the first couple of days for inflammation, I am using Mia Secret Nail Hardener with Garlic & Calcium on my ring finger.  I found this last year at Flower Factory near where I live, so I'm not sure what other store this can be purchased at.

This worked fairly well and quickly the last time that a nail got broken off really short so I am hoping that it will work this time too.  So far this time, my nail seems to growing rather slowly.  Once the major stub gets out to about the length of the other nails, I might start applying it to all of them.

At least the huge blister (that was way open before I even knew I had it) that I got on my thumb is most of the way healed up.  And I finally painted my nails again after a week and a half of bare nails.  It is just so hard to make them pretty when one is sooo short.

What products do you use when your nail breaks off?

Milani Mini Haul!

Today I thought I would share the few things I picked up the last time I was at CVS, which was about a week ago.  I got 3 things from Milani and one Nicole by OPI polish.
Nail polish in Orchidia
Duo Sharpener (for those Shadow Eyez pencils I have & reviewed)
Illuminating Face Powder in 01 Amber Nectar

Nicole by OPI Kardashian Kolor in One Big Happy Fame-ily

Normally I would not have bought any of these items since they weren't on sale.  But, I did have a $5 off purchase that I had earned, as well as a $4 off $20 purchase coupon that also printed out.  I was planning on also using the 30% off coupon that I got in my email--but that didn't work out since I loaded it to my CVS card via my phone on the way there and it had not yet activated (I think that's stupid that it takes so long to activate that way).  I was going to get a couple of things that were on clearance (didn't really need them) but since I didn't get to use my 30% off, I had the cashier take those off.

When I did some calculations, I basically got the Illuminating powder for almost free since it retails for $9-something and paid for the 2 polishes and the sharpener.

Have you ever had your spending/coupon strategy shot down at the register?

Recent Sightings at Walgreens!!

Today I thought I would do a recent display sightings post since I haven't been doing my nails for about the past week, plus one broke off down to the quick so I had to really trim back all the others so it would look a little more even.  The really short one is currently getting daily treatments until it grows out to be even with the others.

Anyway...while I've been out to the drugstores looking for the ever-elusive Wet 'n Wild limited edition polish collection, I've spotted lots of new products and new colors of existing products.

One of the Walgreens I went to about a week ago had lots of new products out from both Maybelline and L'Oreal.  I tried to get pictures of everything, but I forgot to get pictures of both brands' lipstick and mascara displays.  I got distracted by swatching a product.  Oops.

Let's start with L'Oreal...
6 NEW core colors to the Infallible eyeshadow line!!!  I WANT!!! but am waiting for a sale.
I didn't write down the names unfortunately.
5 colors of a NEW product line called Infallible Lacquer Liner 24H gel liner
(l. to r.) 174 Bronze, 172 Navy, 175 Dark Slate, 171 Blackest Black, 173 Espresso
There was also mascara hanging under the gel liners but they didn't make it into a picture, but I think it was one that was released either earlier this year or late last year.
NEW foundation:  True Match Lumi (had L'Oreal's signature Cool, Neutral, and Warm tones with 5 shades shown in each family).  Plus, each shade had TESTERS!!!
Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream in 4 shades
There was a tester in this display too!

There was also a middle display of lipsticks, but I didn't get a picture of those since I'm trying to not really buy a whole lot of lip products...

Maybelline's turn!
EyeStudio Color Plush quads - 3 new shades.
There are also a few new duos that didn't fit in the picture.
Also, below this section of the display was the newer Volum'Express The Mega Plush Mascara.
This is the quad that really caught my eye:
#55 Smokey... (the other word got cut off & I didn't notice)

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB cream in 5 shades, and with TESTERS!!
But, Walgreens hadn't put the price on it yet--I saw it for $6.99 at Bed, Bath & Beyond so it will probably be $1-2 higher at the drugstores.
--Right under the BB cream was a row of new shades in the PLUM family for ColorSensational lipsticks--
4 more new quads:  Luminous Lights, which are all on the pastel side (and the texture looked different, but it could have been by design)

I know that there are a few things that do NOT interest me, namely the lipsticks (they tend to all look toooo similar on my lips), the Maybelline mascara and the Luminous Lights quads.  Oh, and the Lumi foundation from L'Oreal--I need no help in the "lumi" department since my skin is already oily.

My maybe purchases are the 2 BB creams.  I did test out the lightest shade of the Maybelline one; it seemed to match my hand pretty well and I didn't notice it turning color or anything (but the hand is a whole lot different from the face).  Those will depend on the reviews as they start to come in.  Also in the maybe category are the new duos from Maybelline since I've never tried them so I'm not sure how pigmented they are.

My WANTS are 5 (maybe 6) of the new shades of Infallible eyeshadows as well as the bronze shade of the new gel liner (I think the other 4 shades are too similar to those I have from Maybelline).  I also really want to get that Smokey quad from the color plush line.

Wow, this got long.  If you got to this point, YAY!!

Have any of the new products out caught your eye??  Have you tried any or are you still in the "want" phase?

Milani Shadow Eyez Mini Review

Today I have a mini review on a new product from Milani that is exclusive to CVS: Milani Shadow Eyez Eyeshadow Pencil.  I've picked up 3 out of the 6 core colors so far.  I didn't do swatches, so check out A Brilliant Brunette's swatches of ALL 6.  These are comparable to Urban Decay's 24/7 Shadow Pencils for a fraction of the price.

Milani Shadow Eyez Eyeshadow Pencil:

I have them in 02 Brown Deluxe, 03 Champagne Toast and 06 Royal Purple.

Overall Grade:  A

Brown Deluxe is my favorite for when I want a nice, quick bronze-brown lid color with little fuss.

Champagne Toast is nice for when I just want to do a quick nude lid with dark winged liner.

Royal Purple is good, however on me it looks like almost a red-based purple so I have to work with it to get it to look more flattering, otherwise it really brings out my under-eye circles.  This shade individually gets a grade of B- because it looks red-purple on me.

I paid $6.37 each for these.  If CVS puts Milani on sale again, I might pick up the white one.  I'm not sure about the blue and green ones because the colors are so vivid and I tend to shy away from that.  Maybe I should branch out a little; I do have a couple of ideas to try if I do pick them up.  Also, if Milani ever comes up with more in limited edition shades, I would definitely consider getting them (depending on the color).

Miscellaneous Monday...A Useful Clip

For today's Miscellaneous Monday, I have a quick recent find to share.  While shopping at Walmart in the seasonal section a few days ago, I came across an interesting product that I think will be of good use all year round for after showers.  It will also be useful for outside for pool-side use.

Bosa Clips Sarong & Towel Clip.  At the time I bought it, there was only one design--the flipflop.  There might have been other designs earlier in the season or at other Walmart locations.  I bought one for around $3, which I think is a pretty good price.

I haven't really used it yet since I misplaced the bag I put it in.  But I did play around with it a little bit to see how it works and it will be a whole lot better than what I currently do--either twist the corner of my towel under or use a claw clip.  It works by lifting a little lever, which opens the clamp; once in place you push the lever down and it locks on.

If I really really like it, I will probably buy a few more since I'm not sure how long it will last without breaking.  And at $3, you can't really go wrong if it works exceedingly well.

Have you tried out any sarong/towel clips?

Target's Summer Beauty Bag!

I received my Summer Beauty Bag of samples (compliments of Target) a few days ago in the mail and now it's time to share what I got!  If you're curious, it looks like there are a 2 versions of the bag's samples.  Nouveau Cheap shared what a reader of hers received and it is different from what I got.  If you want to try to get the next edition (probably in late summer/early fall), be sure to like the Target Style Facebook page.

Picture time:

Tresemme Split Remedy Split End Shampoo
Neutrogena UltraSheer Dry Touch Sunblock with SPF 70

(L.) Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter foil sample in Peach Parfait
(top R.) Garnier Fructis Color Shield Shampoo & Conditioner packets
(bottom R.) Aveeno Living Color Color Preserving Shampoo & Conditioner for
Medium-Thick Hair packets

My thoughts:
The timing would have been better for the Tresemme shampoo about 2 months ago, before I cut a good portion of damaged hair off when I got a new style.

I already use a Neutrogena SPF face product, but this is a different version so I will definitely try it out.

For the Garnier Shampoo & Conditioner, I have already finished a bottle of the shampoo and used a good portion of the conditioner as well.  I liked them fairly well.

As for the Aveeno Shampoo & Conditioner, I do have a bottle of each already but haven't tried them yet, so when I do I will try to remember to use up the packets at the same time.  That will probably be the next shampoo I open once I finish up my current bottle.

The Revlon Lip Butter is something that I have not tried at all so I'm looking forward to seeing how it feels on and how long it lasts.

There was also an included packet of coupons which expire at the end of August, so I will have a lot more time to decide what products I want to purchase using them.

Overall, it's a nice bag of supplies...I just wish that it wouldn't be so centered on hair products (3 shampoos?!).  I saw some people got an Aveeno face scrub; I wish I would have got that instead of one of the shampoos.  Also, when the bag was advertised, there was a picture of a mascara so that was a little misleading.

My Anniversary Nail Look

Today, I am finally posting what I did on my nails for our wedding anniversary that was 2 weeks ago.  I can't believe how quickly the decade has passed!!  Wow, that sounds like a really long time when you actually use the word "decade."  Anyway....

The Mister likes it when I wear dark polishes, i.e. black, but I wanted some color and a little sparkle.  So I compromised.  Dark purple, glitter and heart glitters.  I really liked the final look.
  • Pro FX Fiberized Ridge Filler base coat
  • 2 coats Wet 'n Wild Fast Dry in 33600 Sea Witch (Spring 2011 Mermaid's Cove collection)

Sea Witch is a very hard-to-photograph-accurately purple/blue duochrome (?) that went on nicely in 2 coats, dried quickly and with a good amount of shininess.

  • 1 coat of the glitter base out of Nicole by OPI Step 2 the Beat of My <3 on ring fingers
  • fished out 3 hearts for each ring finger and placed in a line down the center
  • thin coat of the glitter base to even out ridges from manuvering

Right hand
Left hand
My left hand ended up with a purple heart near the cuticle line instead of pink like my right hand.

The hearts in a single line was inspired by a blog post that I saw last year, and right now I can't find the post. If I do find it, I will update this post with the link.  You can see how I used the N.OPI polish over a pale pink polish here if you want.

This mani wore really well, especially since I never put a top coat on it.  I believe I wore it for 3-4 days and even though I did get some cracks on my ring fingers, the polish didn't actually chip off until I did a bunch of kitchen tasks.

Do you like the compromise I came up with for our special day?

CVS Haul!

I was out looking at a couple of CVS stores at the start of the month, searching for several collections newer from Wet 'n Wild.  While I didn't find everything I was looking for, I did find 1 collection.  AND I also found the beginnings of the CVS Beauty Clearance Sale that happens (I guess) a couple times a year.

So, first is what I paid full price for:
Wet 'n Wild ColorIcon Bronzers
(upper left-with blush) 33838  Me Shell My Belle
(middle - with lightest outside)  33839  Shell-A-Brate Good Times
(right - with light pink)  33837  Don't Be Shellfish

And this is what I got from the Clearance Sale (from a different CVS):

Maybelline Stylish Smokes eyeshadow quads in
(left)  08Q Emerald Smokes and
(right)  14Q Sapphire Smokes
--Plum Smokes was also available at 50% off clearance but I had just gotten it at Walgreens--

L'Oreal Paris HiP Studio Secrets Professional Metallic Shadow duo in
306 Gunmetal
--I tried to get the glitter/sparkles to show up on the dark side of the duo in the pic--
--there were several other HiP duos on sale too (click here for Nouveau Cheap's master list)--

On both Maybelline quads (and I think also the L'Oreal duo) I redeemed $1 off coupons on each item, making the sale prices even better.  Love it when that happens.

And a couple more CVS clearance visits:
Revlon Matte eyeshadows in 001 Vintage Lace and 002 Peach Sorbet
L'Oreal Paris HiP Studio Secrets Professional Metallic Shadow duo in
206 Magnetic
--silvery gray and navy with a little bit of shimmer--

Maybelline ColorSensational lipsticks (Pearl/Shimmer line) in
725 So Pearly and 735 Champagne Shimmer
--I used 2 $1 off Maybelline coupons and redeemed a $2 off CVS cosmetic purchase coupon--

Have you been looking for or found any L.E. from any drugstore brands??  Have you found any good deals at sales recently??

Walgreens Haul!

Today, I'm sharing what I've picked up from a couple of shopping trips to Walgreens over the past 2 weeks.  It's not a whole lot since I am trying to cut back on shopping.

First trip at end of May:
Maybelline Stylish Smokes eyeshadow quad in 12Q Plum Smokes and
20Q Cashmere Gray (Limited Edition Porcelains collection)

Maybelline ColorSensational Lipsticks in 860 Smooth Taupe and
865 Nude Nuances (both Limited Edition Porcelains collection)

Maybelline was on sale that week, buy 1 get 1 50% off.

I've played around with the Cashmere Gray quad a little and on me, the "crease" color runs more blue even though it looks more gray in the pan.  I've also paired a couple of the colors from the Plum Smokes quad with the Bad to the Bronze color tattoo and came up with a nice look.  Side note here:  Plum Smokes is in the CVS clearance sale right now, along with Lavender Smokes, Emerald Smokes and Sapphire Smokes.

And now my trip from last week:

Got2b Powder'ful back 2 bed Texture Powder with
mini Got2b Oil-licious Triple Oil Styling Oil
--I got 2 of these on clearance for about $3.50 each--

Goody Luxe butterfly bobby-pins (found in the $1 bin)

I'm curious to find out how the Texture Powder works; I hope I like it since I got 2.  I'm also curious if I can tell a difference when I use the styling oil versus no oil or a different oil.

I also have a CVS haul post coming up as well as a collective Rite Aid haul.

Have you tried out Got2b's Texture Powder??  Do you like powders or waxes better for styling short hair??
