Sinful Colors Cast Away follow up: Grecian Sun

This post is showing off the 5th polish I've worn from the Sinful Colors Cast Away collection.

2 coats of Grecian Sun #1109
1 coat of Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Diamond Flash Fast Dry top coat

This polish is a beautiful, easy-to-apply, medium blue cream polish.  It dries with a decent shine, but I did add a fast dry top coat since, as usual, I applied at night.

Sinful Colors Cast Away follow up: Pandora

This is the 4th of the 8 from the Cast Away collection by Sinful Colors.  I don't know what it is about this collection, but it is about impossible to get the faint shimmers to show up.  Grrr.  I tried and tried and mildly succeeded.

This is 2 coats of Pandora
1 coat of Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Diamond Flash Fast Dry Top Coat (could the name be any longer?)

( lamp light)

(with flash)

The second picture, if you look closely (especially my middle finger), you can see some of the pinky-orange shimmers trying to peek through.  Maybe the shimmer would have showed up better without the top coat?.  I'm sitting here looking at this on my nails in real life, with a good lamp light on, and can't really make out the shimmers.  Maybe another day I will try to get a nice, even, thin 1 coat on all my nails and see if the shimmers show up better...but I do prefer the opaque look.
I circled some of the shimmers that showed up in the bottle shot

This is a pretty burnt-orange-rust with pinky-orange hidden shimmer color that went on nice and smooth.  Full opacity at 2 coats, but if you really wanted to, you could probably get away with one thicker coat.  I put top coat on since this is what I will be wearing on my nails for a bit.  Speaking of which, that top coat adds a mega-gloss finish (I am still working on how I feel about this fast dry top coat for an eventual review).

Sinful Colors Cast Away follow up: Neptune

To go along with the Cast Away collection post, here is a 3rd mani with Neptune.

It was very tricky to capture the silver shimmer going throughout this saturated royal blue.  You can see it better in the second picture.

Yet Another Haul!

I seem to be having issues with staying away from stores lately--and combine that with clearance sales--I'm in trouble.  This time, I got a few things from KMart, Target, and one thing from the grocery store.

First stop, KMart:
Milani Holographic nail polish in Cyberspace #512 ($2.00 clearance)
ELF Custom Eyes single shadows in (top row) Moondust #2502 & Dusk #2509 ($.99 each)
Rimmel London Colour Rush Quad Eye Shadow in 013 Sweet Smoulder ($1.57 clearance)
ELF Custom Eyes single shadows in (bottom row) Sage #2504 & Pink Ice #2507 ($.99 each)

And now Target:
Bodycology fragrance mist in Enchanted Forest ($2.00)
Revlon Age Defying Concealer in Light ($4.48 clearance)
Physicians' Formula Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls in Light Skin Tones ($12.79)
Physicians' Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Powder in Translucent (free because of peelie on other Physicians' Formula product)

Finally, my one beauty purchase from the grocery store:
Wet 'n Wild bonus pack that contains a Megashield Lipstick in Pink Champagne #373S
and a bonus MegaSlicks Lip Gloss in Crystal Clear #561A

There were 6 packs, all with 1 clear gloss and a shade of the Megashield lipstick (display pic):

I got lots of new goodies to play with (but the concealer is going into my back-up drawer because I've already decided I like it after 1 use of the one I got the other day).

If you've tried out any of these things, let me know what you liked...

Sinful Colors Cast Away follow up: Zeus

This is the second color that I've worn from the Cast Away collection from Sinful Colors.  Zeus.

Check out the pinky nail for some of the pink shimmer

I would describe this as a dusty periwinkle blue shade with a pink shimmer running through it.  Yet another color that is hard to accurately capture in pictures, but completely beautiful.

Sinful Colors Cast Away Collection

This collection is a recent one from Sinful Colors, entitled Cast Away.  It consists of 7 new polish colors and 1 old one.  I believe that as of now, the new colors are limited edition...maybe we will get lucky some day and some will join the core line. (I spotted a couple of limited editions from last year in a core display last week so it is possible.)

(L. to R.) Athens 1113, Zeus 1108, Greek Isles 1107, Pandora  1110

 (L. to R.) Neptune 1114, Grecian Sun 1109, Be Happy 982, Olympia 1112

I believe I picked these up at Walgreens a little while ago and have spotted a few bottles at various Walgreens floating around without their display.  As usual, $1.99 each.

I will also post the ones I have worn already (and will include links to the posts under the correct picture).  On a side note, Olympia is rumored to be a dupe for Essie's Navigate Her ($8), also limited edition.

Review: Vaseline Lip Therapy in Original

I found another brief review that got lost in the Drafts folder.  This is on the Vaseline Lip Therapy in Original.

Essentially, for me this product sucks.  Rather than healing my dry lips, I actually ended up with chapped lips after just a day, not even going outside in the winter.  The only positive was that it was inexpensive - between $1 and $2.

Grade:  F

I may try to repurpose this on other dry areas like elbows, knees, ankles, or my heels.  Maybe that will work.

Haul, part 2

This is part 2 of my massive haul from this week.

From Walmart, I got mostly necessities (and just 2 extras):
2 packs of cotton rounds, a bottle of Acetone, Neutrogena Body Clear body wash
trial size of Bodycology's Blackberry Vanilla fragrance mist ($1.97)
a pendant to make into a necklace ($1.50)
I have gone through a couple of bottles of the body wash already so I needed to get another before my current one is completely gone (stupid skin).  I have also pretty much finished my bottle of acetone (thanks to all the glitter polishes I've been drawn to) so that was a must have.  I always need cotton rounds, as I use them for both skin care as well as polish removal.  As far as the fragrance mist, it looked like it might be nice when I saw it and a quick sniff without spraying it confirmed that it smells nice.  And I'm almost always looking in the craft section for clearance things to make earrings &/or necklaces out of.

From Dollar Tree, this is what I picked up:
Beauty concepts nail polish in nude (no name) and 8-way buffer
LA. Colors Eyeshadow trios in (L. To R.) Water Lily, Sunflower, Iris
Boardwalk, Orchid, Lotus
everything was $1

As far as the LA Colors eye shadows, I am hoping that I can get these to work for me.  I have some from last summer that sometimes they work great and other times they crease and we'll see.  Maybe over top of something besides primer will help them work better for me.
From Big Lots, I got:

Wet 'n Wild I-Sparkle eyeshadow and H2O proof set.
Star Clusters #140 and Solar Eclipse #142
H2O Proof eye liners in Denim Chrome #794(top) and Black Chrome #791

I also stopped at Ollies Discount Store (kind of like a junkie Big Lots) and got:
Jillian Michaels workout DVDs in Shred-It with Weights and Yoga Meltdown ($2.99 each)
and 2 of the plastic 3-drawer units, which actually hook together (as shown in the picture because I forgot to take the pic before I combined them and loaded them up) $4.99 each.  These are nice because they are 3-inch deep drawers so things actually fit well.

After I got home, I realized that I forgot to look for/get one thing: Neosporin overnight lip therapy since my lips are extremely chapped and the corners feel like they are cracked.

Spotted: Essie Poppy Razzi

I recently spotted a new summer collection from Essie--Poppy Razzi.  The collection consists of 4 bright neon shades.
(L. to R.)
Action (reminds me of an orange cream-sickle, but neon)
Camera (2 rows) orange-red
Lights (2 rows)  hot pink/magenta
Bazooka (reminds me of a nice ripe orange)

Since I'm not that into neons, especially at $8 each, I will be passing these up.  If I really want to try something that bright, I will probably look to one of the less expensive brands (probably Sinful Colors, especially since they are really pumping out the new colors/collections lately).

If you decide to pick up 1 (or more), many people advise to put an opaque white underneath to get the color more vibrant and use less coats of color.  I've also read that neon colors tend to try more matte, so if you like shiny you will need top coat.

I saw these at my local grocery store, but I think I also saw them at either Rite Aid or Walgreens, maybe both.

Sales & Clearance Haul!

I had some "shopping therapy" today.  Clearance sales helped me get the most for my money.

From 2 different Walgreens, this is what I got:
Sinful Colors nail polishes in Folly #395 and Let's Talk 929 ($.99 each), 2 Maybelline angle brushes (for some reason, 1 was $2.99 and the other $1.49 clearance), and Loreal True Match Natural Correcter/concealer in Fair/Light ($6.29 clearance).
The second bag was: Sinful Colors nail polish in Exotic Green 1105, Secret Admirer 933, and Big Daddy 850 (all $.99 each), plus a second of the Loreal concealer (but priced $5.99 clearance).

And from 2 different Rite Aids:

ALL CLEARANCE: Revlon Age Defying Concealer in Light ($2.49),
NYC Smooth Skin Translucent Loose Powder ($1.49),
NYC Mosaic Color Wheel in Scarlet Letter ($.49),
Jesses' Girl Nail Polish in Fools Gold ($.74)
I also redeamed $2 in +Up rewards
Regular weekly sales:  Wet 'n Wild Ultimate Minerals Loose Blush in Barely Peach and Bronzer in Amber Glow ($2.39 each - 40% off regular price)
Loreal nail polish in Silver Sparkle ($4.39 - Wellness Card 10% off + $1 off coupon)
Wet 'n Wild Wild Shine nail polish in Blue Moon ($.59 - 40% off regular price)

Wet 'n Wild MegaLast lipstick in Pinkerbell 968 ($1.19 - 40% off regular price)
Revlon Perle eye shadow single in 055 Sunlit Sparkle ($1.24 - 75% off clearance)

I can't wait to start playing with my new goodies.  That Loreal polish is one that I kept seeing in the store and I would pick it up then put it back because it's more expensive than most of my other polishes, but then I found Loreal coupons on one of the counter displays so...Yay!  The Loreal concealer is another thing I have been wondering about so I am finally going to try it since it was about half price from regular retail.

I've been enjoying the other shades of the loose mineral blushes from Wet 'n Wild so I really wanted to get the other shade as well as the bronzer - I was just waiting for a sale.  Also, the lipstick is really out of my comfort zone so I wanted to wait to get it until on sale in case I never got up the nerve to put it on.

I will put the non-sale part of my haul in another haul since this is getting kind of long, so stay tuned!

Playing with Revlon Gold Coast

When I purchased Revlon's Gold Coast, I was wondering what it would look like on my nails.  Well, I decided to play around with it today and got a little creative.

Sinful Colors Amethyst (purple), Sinful Colors Paradise (blue),
Wet 'n Wild Ebony Hates Chris (black), Revlon Gold Coast (by itself)
(more color accurate)

I put 2 coats of each of my chosen colors on and waited for them to dry.  Then I did one coat of Revlon's Gold Coast over each color (on my pinky nail is 2 coats of Gold Coast by itself).

And then I wanted to compare it to my Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure (the original flakie version).  Both are over Sinful Colors Amethyst.
When Hidden Treasure and Gold Coast are next to each other, you can see that they are definitely 2 different top coats, but Gold Coast does have a little bit of multi-colored spark hidden in there, just not a color-shifting tendency.

I would say, if you can find this polish, pick it up because it is so fun to layer over all kinds of colors.  It's one of those layering polishes that can really expand your polish wardrobe for not a whole lot of money (around $4-5, depending on where you find it).

If you do pick it up, let me know what you pair with it.

Revlon Summer Collection

The other day I spotted the new Revlon Summer 2012 Escapism collection by Gucci Westman at Rite Aid (also saw it at Walgreens).  I didn't pick anything up that day, but I kept thinking about it some.

The full collection (which I did not buy)
Nail polishes (L. to R.)
Red Bikini, Gold Coast, Sheer Seafoam, Surf

Well, after seeing a post on  Nouveau Cheap's blog with some linked swatches, I decided I wanted to get the pretty gold polish.  But, the thing is, I didn't want to pay the Rite Aid or Walgreens price of about $5 a I thought "Oh, I should check out Bed, Bath & Beyond!"   And they had it :-) for $3.79 plus I used a coupon.  (see what else I got from Bed, Bath & Beyond here ) I can't wait to see what it looks like on the nail for myself!

Milani Brides Maid comparisons

So in my last post, I mentioned that Milani's polish in Brides Maid reminded me of a couple of others I already had in my collection.  I now have a little comparison to show (my very first comparison post).

Milani Brides Maid by itself
(L. to R.) 1 coat, 2 coats, 2 coats close up

2 coats, no top coat
(pinky & middle fingers) Sinful Colors Flirting Nails
(ring & index fingers) Milani Brides Maid

 2 coats, no top coat
(pinky finger) Sinful Colors Flirting Nails
(ring & index fingers) Milani Brides Maid
(middle finger) Revlon Catty

Final Thoughts:
My first instinct was Sinful Colors Flirting Nails was very similar, but ON the nail not even close.
My second instinct was Revlon Catty.  Closer since both have a foil-y finish, but Catty is much more gold toned and does not include the coppery-red shimmer that Brides Maid does.

Milani Brides Maid does not have any "dupes" in my collection.

**EDIT:  Looking at images online, this (Brides Maid) might be a dupe or very similar to OPI Designer...De Better from the Muppets collection that came out for Holiday 2011 (which I don't have).  Check out Amarixe's blog here to see for yourself.

Milani Mini Haul

Ever since I saw on Nouveau Cheap's blog about the Milani Limited Edition Pure Love Collection, I knew that I wanted to try and hunt down the eyeshadow trio.  It took forever to finally find it.  I'm talking a few weeks and multiple trips to Walgreens.  In fact, I went to all 6 Walgreens that are close to where I live...never found it there.  Rather, on the way home from a party in another city, I stopped at the 1 Walgreens there, just in case, and it was there!  At first I was just going to get the trio, but I kept looking at the one polish and decided that I was going to get it too.  Looking at the other 2 polishes in the store reminded me of a couple of polishes I already have so I behaved and left those behind...maybe if they weren't $4.49 a piece I might have picked up the white(ish) one in Wedding Dress.

I brought home the trio in True Romance ($4.99) and
1 polish in "Brides Maid" #859 ($4.49)

When I got home and went to put the polish in with the rest of my collection, it reminded me of a couple other polishes from other brands.  But I will get to that in another post.

Of the 2 that I didn't purchase, the white(ish) one-Wedding Dress- reminded me of Sinful Colors Tokyo Pearl.  The  black/charcoal with silver glitters reminded me of Borghese Nero Magico and also Hard Candy Wicked.

Wedding Anniversary N.O.T.D.

Yesterday I went to my grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary.  This is the nail look that I did for it.

Step 1:
3 coats of Sinful Colors in "Easy Going", an extremely pale (almost white) pink
1 coat was streaky, 2 was better, 3 was perfect except for my edges got a little closer than usual.
1 coat of Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Diamond Flash Fast Dry Top Coat

Step 2:
1 coat of Nicole by OPI in "Step 2 The Beat Of My <3" for the base holographic? glitter
Then the pink and purple hearts were fished out of the bottle and placed.
Another coat of Diamond Flash Fast Dry top coat

I think that were I to do a look like this again, I would only put the hearts on my accent nails instead of all of them.  I think I would also line up the hearts rather than the kind of triangle-shaped placement.  I think I would also use some kind of tool to fish out the hearts instead of trying to place them directly from wherever they were on the brush--that got kind of messy/sloppy looking.

Coral Nails

This is a nail look that I wore a couple of weeks ago.  I liked the end result but it was a P.I.T.A. getting there.
Step 1:
Sinful Colors Island Coral (2 coats over base coat)

Step 2:
 Island Coral with
Forever 21/Love & Beauty in Coral/Multi (I lost track of how many thick yucky coats to get it to look like this - 3,4,5?)  I believe this is one of those "flakie" polishes.

I loved the Forever 21 polish when I saw it in the store, and snatched it up right away since I have several coral polishes it could play with.  BUT this stuff is thick and goopy and too HOURS to dry.  I'm sure that my top coat didn't help since I have decided it does the opposite of being a quick dry top coat.  But still.  I had to dunk my fingers in as-cold-as-the-sink-would-run water (a few times).  And then an hour later I had to do it again because the polish was still goopy/wet.  GRRRR.  Maybe I will try adding a little bit of thinner to it, and use it with a different quick dry top coat.

Do you have a love/hate relationship with any polishes?
