Review: Almay Smart Shade Smart Balance Foundation

A brief review on Almay Smart Shade Smart Balance Foundation (color Light 100).

While this foundation claims to be "smart," I find it to be (as I put it) not so smart.  It makes me look like an orange face.  Yuck.  It's hard to make an opinion on other factors when I couldn't get past how it made me look.  I think it wore all right (I haven't touched the bottle in over a year) on my oily skin.  This is definitely a product that I will not purchase again...actually, now that I think about it, I haven't really come across anything from Almay that I really liked or loved.

New Wet 'n Wild Fauna & Flora

Yesterday I managed to find the 2 new kits from Wet 'n Wild: Fauna and Flora ($4.99 each).  I got them for a little less because of my Rite Aid Wellness Card =).

FAUNA includes: eyeshadow trio in Fauna, mini blush in Pearlescent Pink (core color),  glassy gloss lip gel in Glass Confusion (core color), and Fast Dry nail polish in Teal or No Teal (core color).

FLORA includes:  eyeshadow trio in Flora, mini blush in Mellow Wine (core color), glassy gloss lip gel in Mow the Grass (core color), and Fast Dry nail polish in Twining Vines (this, in my eyes, is a dupe/renamed repromote  of Ocean Grotto from the 2011 Mermaid's Cove polish collection)

Overall, I am happy that I got them because I really wanted the eyeshadow trios.  Also, I don't have either of the glassy gloss lip gels so I will get to try those.  On the other hand, I'm a lilttle disappointed because rather then coming up with NEW colors of blush and polish, WnW put colors in that are all ready available or have been in the recent past.  Both of the blushes are going into my drawer of backup/duplicate make up and polishes.  The Twining Vines polish will also likely go into the drawer after I swatch it to compare to Ocean Grotto to see if they truly are the same as I suspect.  The Teal or No Teal will be put with the rest of my collection as I had not yet picked it up yet for some reason.

Out of 8 individual pieces, 5 are ones that I do not have.

Project "Finish This Stuff", part 6

It has been a while since I posted anything about my self-imposed challenge of Project "Finish This Stuff."  I did finish a few things by the end of (let me check when I imposed the mini-challenge deadline)...August...but never took any pictures of those few things.  So instead, they got put in the basket I designated for finished items, which i have since greatly added to.

I was going to take a picture on the first day of Fall, and then Winter, of everything that had been finished, but those days, too, came and went.  So now I have a basket full/overflowing of items.  I did stop adding things to the basket on December 31, 2011.  Anything finished after that got separated out so that I would be able to see how much I finished in 2011.  Now I need to go through the basket and start photographing so I can put "official updates."  I think I will also do a total tally of finished products.

Also, I am still working on finishing more products and cleaning out the beauty the never-ending project continues.  :-)

St. Patty's Mani and Pedi

This is my St. Patty's inspired manicure using a funky french manicure in greens.

  • Pro FX Fiberized Ridge Filling base coat (index finger has a different base since the nail is too thin right now)
  • Sinful Colors "Olympia" from the Spring 2012 Cast Away collection (2 coats)
  • Sinful Colors "Envy" on tips (freehanded)
  • Pro FX Quick Dry top coat (not a fan of this--it does not seem to dry quickly, rather even slower)

I decided to go ahead and add my pedicure (even though I'm not that crazy about how it came out & bad lighting for the picture)
3 coats of Sinful Colors Happy Ending
random stripes (on my big toe) and dots (on the rest) of L.A. Colors Nail Art in Gold Glitter

New nail toys!

A few days ago, I was at Wal-Mart, checking out the makeup and nail polish/care section, and found a couple new things to play around with!   For both packages, it was less than $10.

Fing'rs Flirt Nail Art Stamping Kit # 32370
(includes 1 disk, 1 single-ended stamp, 1 scraper, and 1 bottle of white polish)
and Disks #32372 :

Fing'rs Flirt Nail Art Stamping Disks #32370 (same as above)

I haven't played around with them yet, but I am looking forward to experimenting with them!  I like that both packages have different plates/disks than the "As Seen on TV" Salon Express Kit. (I have 2 of those - 1 from Rite Aid & 1 from Sally's since they both came with different images.)

Slate +Sparkles manicure

This manicure included 2 colors that were untried in my collection.  Of course, I used my usual base of

Pro FX Fiberized Ridge Filler base coat
Sinful Colors "Slate" (Fall 2011 Destination America collection), 2 coats
Color Club "Sugarplum Fairy" (Holiday 2011 Beyond the Mistletoe collection), 1 coat
Pro FX Quick Dry High Gloss Top Coat (I think this is correct)

Unfortunately, the Wal-Marts that are local/somewhat local to where I live no longer carry this line of base and top coats.  :-(  Eventually, I will either have to order from the website (I HATE paying shipping, for anything) or find a new base coat that I really like.  On the other hand, the "quick dry" top coat isn't impressing me that much so I'm not sad to see that one disappear.  I seem to have bad luck of things that I do like fairly well stop being carried by local stores.
