Jewelry haul

For something different, I thought I would show what jewelry pieces I got from Cato, a women's clothing store, Gabriel Brothers, Target, and World Market.

Target:  both were on clearance (purchased on different days).  I think that the bracelet was around $5.50.  And I got a really great deal on the set of 3 pairs of earrings because rather than scan the earring barcode, she scanned the barcode of a $1 item she had in her hand twice and didn't correct it.  I wasn't going to tell her either, since the mistake was in my favor.

These 2 pairs of earrings are from World Market, made in India, and cost $5.99 each.  I have a thing for pretty items made in India/Pakistan/that area of the world.

Lastly, I bought this pair of simple pearl earrings from Gabriel Brothers for $1.  Not bad for a pair of earrings that originally came from New York & Company and probably cost...mmmm....$15 or more.

Rite Aid Clearance Haul

I went into Rite Aid last week and that night they were going through and marking down most of the counter displays of limited edition items from several brands.  And...well...I have a hard time resisting sales, especially when it's something that I know I will most likely not be able to find again.

So, here's some pictures of what I got in my haul.

I bought a backup of Maybelline Lasting Drama Eye Studio Gel in Forest ($4.74), 2 Eyestudio Quads in Makeover Mocha and Green with Fashion  ($4.74 ea.), Maybelline Express Finish nail polish in Mauve Accents ($2.07), Sinful Colors in Snow Me White and Starfish ($.99 ea.), a Wet 'n Wild nail polish duo in Ebony Hates Chris and clear topcoat ($.99) and L.A. Colors Mini Glitter Color Craze 5-pack ($1.49)

I was going to get a couple of other things (2 baked blushes from Maybelline) but decided to restrain myself since I don't wear blush all that often, and when I do wear it, I have to use such a light hand that blushes last me for literally years.

Walgreens polish haul

A couple weeks ago, I went to Walgreens on a Saturday afternoon, which is when most times they have the current week's sale running in combination with the coming week's sale.  This time, there was also an awesome Revlon coupon code for $10 off the beauty adviser had.  So, I had a little fun.  I got all of the polishes that were on my current wanted list for Revlon.  I left Walgreens with 5 bottles of polish for the price of...ONE (plus tax)!!!!

(Top to bottom):  Silver Dollar, Royal, Copper Penny, Grape, Blue Mosaic (from Expressionists 2011 collection)

Top Speed in Grape and Royal

Blue Mosaic, Copper Penny, Silver Dollar

Fright Night Claw

When I was in Target a few weeks ago, I saw a couple of duo packs of nail polish from Fright Night Claw Polish.  I almost bought the one with a pretty shimmery red and black but then put it back when I saw Red Carpet from Sally Hansen.  Then, probably a week later, I saw swatches of the Phantom color and decided that I really liked that color so...back to Target I went and got the pack with Phantom and Sinister.

Wet 'n Wild Bloom

This is part of another limited edition collection from Wet 'n Wild - the Spring Bloom collection from Spring 2011.  I found 2 of this at Giant Eagle, sitting on a shelf with no display (and I didn't even really know about the collection) and I found 2 just recently, stuffed behind core collection bottles at a CVS that I just found the location of.  There are 2 that I was not able to find - Sunburst & Birdbath.  *Note to self: always check behind the other bottles*

(L to R):  Laughing Lilac, Garden Hose, Cherry Blossom, Collecting Pollen

Mermaid's Cove collection

I picked up all that I could fine (7 out of 8) of the Wet 'n Wild Limited Edition Mermaid's Cove when I found it late spring/early summer.  I found this collection at my local grocery store, Giant Eagle.

(L to R):  Diving for Pearls, Atlantis, Sea of Dreams, Magic Trident, Waves of Enchantment, Sea Witch, Ocean Grotto

I have used:
  • Waves of Enchantment
  • Magic Trident (May 13, 2011 blog)
  • Ocean Grotto (Sept. 19, 2011 blog)

On the Prowl...sort of...

For the month of September and into October, I was driving myself crazy trying to find the On the Prowl collection from Wet n Wild.  When I did find it, all that was left was the non-glitters.  (I got three of them.)  But I really wanted the glitters: Behind Closed Doors (red glitter), Cougar Attack (brown/bronze/copper glitter), Correction Tape (multi-colored and shaped glitter), and Tangled in My Web (black glitter).  Behind Closed Doors was suspended in a black base; all rest of these were suspended in a clear base.  So while I was on my "quest," I went in my local Forever 21 to see what they had for polishes.  And boy was I happy!  They had glitter polishes!!  Included in those glitter polishes were ones that I thought could satisfy my craving.  And for the most part, they did; some even went beyond satisfying - one was even better than the WnW swatches I had seen!

These 3 are actually from the On the Prowl collection:
Ready to Pounce, Jungle Fever, Buy Me a Drink

The front row are my substitutes for the rest of the collection
WnW Party of Five Glitters, Sally Hansen Exteme Wear Pumpkin Spice,
Love & Beauty in: Rust, Black, Red
WnW Ebony Hates Chris

Top: WnW Party of Five Glitters
Sally Hansen Pumpkin Spice
Love & Beauty Rust    Black
Middle: WnW Ready to Pounce,
Jungle Fever, Buy Me a Drink,
Ebony Hates Chris
Bottom: Love & Beauty Red

Love & Beauty Rust and Black      WnW Party of Five Glitters; S.H. Pumpkin Spice

My version of On the Prowl (as of right now)

The Black from Love & Beauty is, I think, even better than Tangled in My Web.  Black contains both micro glitters and hexagonal glitters in a clear base, which makes it interesting and more web-like (if that makes sense)  Neither Rust nor Pumpkin Spice are really, really close to Cougar Attack but I still need to play around with them; maybe a combo will make it better.  The Red from Love & Beauty (when layered over a dark base) looks really, really close to Behind Closed Doors.  Ebony Hates Chris is a really opaque cream black.  Party of Five Glitters is similar to Correction Tape, but missing the square glitters (and the color mix is different too).

Current pedi.

Right now, on my toes, is an experiment.  I'm really happy with the end result.  I had bought from Walgreens recently Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Sequin Scandal (I think that they had pulled it and stuck it in the back because it was a 2010 collection color).  I was thinking that it would be a really pretty dark olive-y brown with lots of gold shimmer...nope.  It was just a dark greenish black with virtually no pretty gold shimmers like in the bottle.  Bummed, I went to my collection and found Sinful Colors in All About You and put this on over top.  Yay!  This is what I though Sequin Scandal was going to look like.  All About You is a pretty gold and little touch of red microglitter in a clear base.  I was happy with how this looked now (but didn't take a picture)...but I wanted to play more.  I busted out my new Forever 21 (Love & Beauty) polish in Red.  I put a coat of this over top of Sequin Scandal and All About You and...o.m.g.  I think I just made a "dupe of Behind Closed Doors from WnW On the Prowl collection (which I really did try to get but never found the entire collection).

  • base coat of Pro-FX Fiberized Ridge filler
  • 2 coats of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Sequin Scandal (limited edition from 2010)
  • 1 coat of Sinful Colors in All About You (this is covered up since I kept playing)
  • 1 coat (2 on big toe) of Love & Beauty (from Forever 21) in Red (this is really a clear based red glitter that has fine glitter as well as the typical sized hexagonal glitter)
So it may take a while longer to do my layered version of Behind Closed Doors, but I am extremely pleased with the end result...and it also means that I get more me time when I can't be disturbed to go do something elsewhere.

Bronze Ablaze mani

Earlier this month, I tried out yet another of my new polishes.  Lately I have been putting on the most recent polish that I bought.  This time it was Sally Hansen Insta-Dri nail color in Bronze Ablaze, which is a limited edition color.  This is the first time that I have used one of the colors from the Insta-Dri line, and I have to say that the brush took some getting used to.  I think I still prefer the traditional brushes rather than flat and slightly shaped.  I felt like too much polish stayed on the flat part above the bristles....Anyway, picture time.

This was 2 coats of Bronze Ablaze over my usual base coat, Pro FX Ridge Filler.  I think that I did use a top coat, if not the same day then the next day.  I noticed in this polish that it seemed to contain extremely fine red and gold shimmer, just enough to really make it full of life.  Really pretty, just wish it had a different brush.

Rite Aid and Walgreens haul

I found a few pictures of a haul I did during the summer and never got around to posting.  Oops.

Rimmel Soft Kohl Eyeliner pencil in Pure White, Wet n Wild Mega Liner (liquid) in Black, and BonneBelle lipgloss in Cappucino.  I have used the eye liner and the liquid liner and like both.  I haven't used the gloss yet.

Revlon Top Speed nail polish in Electric, Sally Hansen Extreme Wear in Pumpkin Spice, and Sinful Colors in Nirvana and 2 others (I didn't write down the colors and can't tell from the picture what they are - Ruby Ruby might be the red and Amethyst might be the purple).  I have used the Revlon Electric and like the color; its more of a spring-y &/or summer-y color.
Borghese nail polishes in: La Strada Rose, Nero Magico, and Menta (which came with a fast dry top coat).  I really like the La Strada Rose (it takes 2 coats to be opaque and lasts well).  I have also used Menta, which I like the color but don't like how sheer it is.  I believe that when I wore it, I used 4-5 coats to get it fairly opaque.

Week long manicure

It's not often that I find a color that I love so much that when it chips, I take it off and put it right back on.  This was one of those times - I put it on a total of three different times over one week.  I even actually bought an extra bottle of the color (as of right now, it is not a core color so I knew that if I loved it that much, if I ever ran out of this bottle, I probably wouldn't be able to find it again, so...)

Sinful Colors in "Winterberry" from their Destination America Fall 2011 collection.
It's a pretty grayed-purple with the tiniest bit of silvery-purple shimmer to it.  Love.

I started with my usual base of Pro FX, then did 2 coats of Winterberry and followed it up with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri.
